There is no breakfast. There are nearby venues. Whilst there no air-conditioning the small, quiet oscillating fan made the conditions comfortable. There was minimal traffic noise at night.

Parking was not available on arrival. Despite signage stating that parking was for clients only it was apparent that many, including visitors to the bowling club across the street, treated the park as a public facility. I didn't appreciate having to provide photographic ID online as a pre-arrival prerequisite. The hotel receptionist said that it was a bookings.com thing, and the hotel itself couldn't care less about it.

The Anchorage is a beautiful old building oozing character. The room was great: tons of space, a great old four poster bed, GREAT little balcony with an ocean view, and a great bathroom with a spa. Not only that...there was a complimentary bottle of red and some nibbles! What was not to like?

A couple of minor hiccups with fittings occurred, but they really were not an issue...more a reflection of the fact that it is an old building. Yes, the carpets and drapes are showing their age, but at the end of the day, none of this detracted from the enjoyable stay we experienced!

Location is absolutely perfect. Just metres from the beach with a wonderful sea view, and just a short stroll to the centre of town. Was up early one day and caught the sunrise from the balcony which was spectacular. Friendly, helpful staff. Very clean. All in all it is a wonderful place to stay.

The hotel has the essentials just about perfect, including a plug for the hand basin in the bathroom as someone who shaves by using a hand basin, this is a personal added bonus so often missing in most hotels. The hotel is old and has a wonderful charm, but some attention to detail could give it a wow factor. e.g. when I walked into my room - the mounted TV was crooked, most of the lamp shades were crooked. These details cost absolutely nothing to amend but add a lot to a first impression. Also, it is a pity there is no breakfast available at the hotel.

This is a Heritage Hotel and as such there is no lift to the second floor where we stayed, but we have stayed there a number of times and love the place. Certainly it needs refurbishing but I believe that will soon be done, and for the position and the building this was reflected in the price for the spa room. It suited our requirements. A special treat was the very good band playing on Sunday afternoon.

As I have said we know the guest rooms are to be refurbished, in fact may be re-built, so they are not wonderful. There is plenty that needs doing, but we enjoyed it all anyway.

Nice location, spa, view. Had the basics we needed for o/night stay. It's an older place with plenty of character - that actually makes it quite nice and we hope the character stays! A very nice touch was the bottle of wine and nibbles provided - we didn't remember that from previous stays.

A little maintenance would go a long way. Very noisy exhaust fan in spa/bathroom so had spa in dark to avoid excess noise. Fridge also noisy overnight / no microwave but does have kettle. And the lighting wasn't great - room lighting by two wall uplights - one needed replacing, but wasn't worth chasing as only there one night.

the old world charm, the staff, the location and the view of the bay were great. the room has everything we needed except chairs so we brought in those from the balcony. the staff accommodated our request made when we were booking

there is no lift, so we left most of our things in the car due to large heavy luggage. the car park was full of Bowls people's cars when we arrived, very lucky to find a spot at the far end when someone left. the car park is also gravel which would have made it hard to move rolling luggage

Brilliant location right on the seafront and in the middle of the town close to everything via walking. Loved staying at the historic hotel. So interesting to learn about its history. Has a bar and restaurant that serves beautiful food. Lots of character with function rooms.

No lift up to the second floor so you have to take the stairs. Wonderful to stay upstairs in a room with ensuite and balcony that overlooks the sea and Bay Area. The stairs with no lift is an issue for elderly or disabled. But there are 3 ground floor rooms to accommodate for this.

Well breakfast wasn't offered during my stay as the kitchen was closed. This wasn't a problem as coffee shops and food shops are within walking distance. The location is perfect and lucky for my partner and I that school holidays were over and the hotel had plenty of rooms available so we were very lucky and were granted an upgrade. Our reason for travelling was my wife had just lost her father and she has been very upset. I told this to the front desk staff and he was generous enough to offer the up grade. A spa room is the way to go. the room also had a balcony and see Offen sat out watching the lawn bowlers practicing, very interesting, plus the ocean was a backdrop to the grassy lawn in front of the hotel. I will come again and will definitely book a spa room.

Location was lovely with views from the balcony over looking the bowling club lawns to the sea, stunning sunrise views. Henry & all staff were super friendly, efficient, happy vibe throughout the hotel & Bistro. The food was of a high standard & quality, with generous serves particularly the fresh Wharf Flathead in a beer & ginger light batter... delicious ( we had it twice) Prices very good. Wine list was enjoyable as was the fresh cakes & delicious coffee. We have already booked another stay! Highly recommend it, cockle train drives past, a great location!

There are lot's of stairs but worth the exercise ( pack lightly) They didn't sell sparkling water in the Bistro.

The name of the hotel ' Anchorage ' was significant as I was staying there to release my father's ashes to the ocean. I like older buildings with character & history. I thought the furnishings in the communal rooms were lovely...the organ, dining dresser etc. Positioned with a sea view was perfect.

The only thing I can say that was lacking was there were no pictures on the walls in our room which would have made it feel more welcoming & homely. As there was no air cooling we kept the fan on all night which was a little disruptive of our sleep on & off.
