A modern, clean hotel with friendly staff. Good central location with everything within walking distance. The room was big, with a very comfortable bed. The coffee machine, fridge and microwave were a great wee bonus.

The swimming pool could do with a good clean. The pool tiles/walls haven’t had a scrub in a while and are grimy and greasy. Felt like unneeded a good scrub when I came out as I felt greasy from the water. Room wise the only downside was the noise from the C-train and the heater. The C-train you get used to but the heater is very loud but thankfully super fast so you didn’t have to put up with the noise very long.

The AC unit in my first room didn't work but the staff sent a lovely person up to fix it very quickly after i called them. Unfortunately that fix didn't hold but staff were able to move me to a larger room with great AC the next day. They were very responsive and friendly throughout. Also, other reviews mentioned the noise from the tram that stops right outside but it wasn't bothersome to me. I was on the 11th floor though so maybe that made a difference.

The AC units in the two rooms I was in were quite loud. I am a heavy sleeper and don't mind white noise so it wasn't a problem for me but if you are a light sleeper you might find that a challenge. On the whole though I would rather have loud AC than no AC.

I liked the location. The staff were great.

The bed was very uncomfortable. I could feel the springs while lying down. The bed is a big deal for me in hotels. They seemed to vacuum the carpet but I think the building is too old and there was that lingering smell from the carpet. There were stains in the sheets and ai wondered if it's because they are too old, or if they were not clean! I was not able to control the AC in the room and ended up covering with bathrobe. Why wasn't there a duve on the bed? I literally had half pillows!

Staff was very friendly and helped with any questions we had during our stay. We did get conflicting information between the hotel and Moxie's though, where we called the front desk to ask about the menu in the restaurant and were forwarded to room service who would supposedly tell us the menu. We called them but were told to check the menu online instead. Would be good to have this stuff clearer to avoid being bounced around.

The shower did not work very well. We were going to change rooms/have maintenance check it but ultimately decided against both because we were tired. The shower pressure was weak and at a good temperature water just dribbled from the shower head. If the pressure was good, the water was piping hot. The drain also did not drain water very well. The bed skirt was dirty when we got to the room. For the price, facilities and cleanliness should have been better.

This superb hotel is a real hidden gem right in the middle of downtown Calgary. The location is perfect, access is very easy when arriving by car, and local amenities and tourist activities (eg Calgary Zoo) are well within easy reach. Dining locations are easy to reach and key sightseeing activities accessible without any issue. Service and friendliness from all staff is incredible - nothing is too much trouble and staff go out of their way to ensure every customer is so well looked after at every encounter. Highly recommend this hotel for any traveller looking for exemplary accommodation in Calgary. I will definitely stay here again on any future visit to Calgary.

Could not fault any of the services received at this Hotel. We have stayed in 26 different hotels etc over the past 9 weeks and Sandman Hotel Downtown Calgary ranks among the very best we have experienced.

The pool facilities are nice. The room was clean. Moxies on site is great and the train just outside is amazing for any downtown activities.

There was some things that could be fixed up better. For example in the bathroom where the pipes were coming out of the wall to the toilet, the fixture was not affixed to the wall. And the space between the shower and the doorframe could have been filled nicer. But these very small things did not detract from the cleanliness of the room. Just being nit-picky.

The pool was good and clean, guest services was pleasant and helpful restaurant inside was convenient and great service. I appreciated that the room key needed to be used to access every floor. Made me feel safe with my young family. Our room had a microwave and mini fridge. The heater worked well and the room set up was very functional. We had a truck that didn't fit in the parkade and they had a section for oversized vehicles that was very close to the hotel and had security.

The coffee provided was a dark roast blend with chocolate and cinnamon spice, it was too much flavoring going on. The wall paper was peeling off in multiple places and there were stains on the carpet. We were there 4 days and went to the pool everyday. No towels were available at the pool and the one time there was, they were too small to wrap around yourself

Good location, the rooms were clean, and the front staff were really friendly! We stayed here during the stampede and it was perfect for us.

The AC wasn’t working in our original room, but they kindly offered to upgrade us to one where the AC was working :) the AC unit is a little loud but that didn’t bother us - it might if you’re a light sleeper. The only con is the cleaning service - you need to put the sign outside your door before 10 am and they are very reluctant to come back later in the afternoon to clean the room.

Easy check in, friendly staff, everything was clean and tidy. Bed very comfortable with nice linen. Moxies Restaurant was great, good staff, lovely range of food. Being on the train line worked for us too, made it easy to get to the places we wanted to see.

Our only dissatisfaction was the room was stuffy, acknowledging that it is summer and our room faced west and the afternoon sun, so probably a very short term problem..With no opening window, we propped our door open and let some fresh air in.
