This concept is a bit out of the ordinary - but it works. Accommodation is provided in a large converted old building on the edge of the village, while meals, including breakfast are taken a short walk away in facilities in the village which has something of the feel of Portmeirion about it. The village is surrounded by fields of vines. The accommodation hotel rooms and corridors have the feel of being in a wine cellar. We had our evening meal in the Thai restaurant which was lovely, and breakfast the next morning under shades in the village square was very pleasant.

The room we had was on the small side for 2 adults and a large dog, and the corridor and stair lighting poor. The surrounding gardens were well tended, and there were 2 swimming pools, but both were infested with wasps at the time of our stay in late June

Location was asking the heart of Assignan beautiful conversions and explorations into foodie heaven. Outside pools were a joy after a hit car journey. Both dinner and breakfast in La Petite Table were both really good. Our steak was cooked to perfection and breakfast was served on beautiful China with a great selection of fruit, pastries, bread and conserves. Yum! I liked the towels flip flops and wicker basket ready to take down to the pools. The pool area and outside grounds were beautiful. There were many activities available but we didn't have time to do any sadly.

I am afraid to say I didn't warm to the decor or layout of the room. The room was very spacious which was great but the lighting wasnt great and the colours of purples mauves maroons dark raspberry and lavender felt quite oppressive. Otherwise beautiful features e.g the amythest wall tiles were not shown to their best effect. If something small was placed it might easily get lost. The layout seems strange to me with the bed facing the two wash basins when there were windows facing out to the beautiful countryside. No matter how beautiful a way basin and seating area I feel a beautiful countryside view is hard to beat from a bed if in fact that's an option.

Fabulous concept- a 'dispersed'hotel where you stay in the old cottages and buildings in the village. Amazing choice of restaurants including the best Thai food I've eaten. Biodynamic wine and brewery and a wonderfully welcoming and professional team

Amazing situation and facilities.

The low entrance in to the hotel, I actually had an accident hitting my head on it which knocked me off my feet.

Super nice concept! Super clean village Low markup charge on the wines. We had several bottles a day :-) Amazing vineyard and surrounding property. Nice list of activities Cleary well thought out in many ways, like adding a microbrewery and bar food with a flemish/belgian touch Has everything. (On paper) The restaurant staff! At all 3 restaurants. Some of the people at the reception area….

Execution in certain areas While we clearly can see a lot of detail went into offering a great end to end experience. The execution faltered in some areas. Can’t help but think this is a bit of a diy hotel - closing times of the bar (2 days) and restaurants during high season? Without anything nearby as an alternative mor heads up - 1 pool without decent ability to get shade. We only found out after a few days there were more options at the other pool. - limited food options during the day at pool - we had the largest room/house. Very charming. But 2 annoying feats nevertheless 1) trying to have a good night rest was not easy: very very squeaky floor (at night) in the bedroom (bathroom was ok) with also nails sticking out the wooden door that tore my wife’s dress. I get it, that it’s part of the charm of having your rooms/house being situated straight in the middle of the village, but our room was literally next to the church. Every half hour those bells toll. Woke me up every single night. I left tired. Nouse/light came in from rooftop 2) food quality, especially at the Thai. Loved the idea but the set menus (only option) were disappointing. The michelin star La table was a great experience. Great wine list too!! La petite table, the waitress made up for a lot, but here we had a very mixed bag of sometimes really great dishes and some not that great (at all). Also really too long wait times too.(30-45 min). Room for improvement!

the rooms were wonderfull

This hotelvillage (rooms are spread over the small village) has a square, which could be considered as the “heart” of the hotel. There is 1 terrace on the square, 2 restaurants and a boutique, but most of the time (including evenings) these are closed. It looks abandonned. The breakfast could not be taken outside because the terrace was closed, thus we had to sit inside in a small room on the first Floor (outside 25 degrees, nice sun), The original set up of the hotel is top but now it misses “the Vibe” because of the limited opening times. The village of Assignan is so small that for the rest nothing is going on there. 4 years ago, when we visited our first time, the vibe was 110%. Obviously, in that time managed by other owners…
