We absolutely loved our stay at Chateau de Bagnols from the moment we arrived until the moment we departed. The Suite we were in (#6) is the most amazing historical room we could have imagined and it made us smile every time we walked through the door. The restaurant on site was phenomenal - we chose the shorter course meal and regretted not choosing the large one. The food was incredible and the staff made it truly memorable. We absolutely loved the pool area and choose to spend two afternoons enjoying it while sipping on some lovely white wine. The grounds are amazing and we also explored the gardens on one lovely morning. This place is special. The concierge was also incredible and helped us set up several activities before we arrived including a Segway (Gyro-Pod) tour, a Hot Air Balloon ride, and an e-bike tour. They were responsive 24-hours / day once we arrived and helped us really get the most of our time.

There was nothing that we did not like about the Chateau itself. The wi-fi is spotty in a few areas but it's a historic chateau with very thick stone walls so we knew that it might be difficult to have great wi-fi everywhere. It worked perfectly for me in our room, at the restaurant, and most of the time out at the pool (in the chairs closer to the outdoor cafe).

Gorgeous setting. Room was wonderful for 3 with upstairs and private terrace. Chateau is well maintained. Grounds including pool and garden and beautiful. 1217 restaurant was exceptional.

Breakfast was underwhelming especially for the price. The buffet sits and so things were not hot. At the price of the stay the breakfast should be included or there should be better fresher a la cart options. Restaurant staff and servers were impeccable including chef and sommelier. We didn’t see a lot other staff. It isn’t that anyone was bad but certainly didn’t add to the experience. Check in unnecessarily slow.

Wonderful environment, setting, views, walks, design features, attention to detail, and atmosphere. And the cuisine? Good Lord! The best (and unexpected) tasting menu experienced to date for dinner (outside Paris, London, Lyon). Wine and dinner menu very good indeed, and a satisfying breakfast in their glorious covered atrium. Sadly only one night as passing through, but what a wonderful way to relax for another day spent driving. Would we return? Absolutely. This was a jaw dropping plus fine dining experience.

Room was spacious, location beautiful and staff attentive but not overbearing. Would have liked to stay longer as it was so beautiful. Very romantic, not one for kids I would say. Very dog friendly too!

My only complaint was the limited dining options. The restaurant is beautiful, but if you don't want fine dining there is nothing else. The grill concept sounded perfect for us but was only available on the nights the Michelin restaurant was not available so we ate elsewhere which was a shame.

It is a beautiful and well maintained property with excellent gardens. The breakfast is also fantastic. But the main attraction is the castle like rooms, quaint toilets and ambiance. The staff were attentive and very helpful. The only thing to keep in mind is that it is a 45+ min drive from Lyon. This may work for some people, especially for the authentic rural castle experience. But the approach roads are small and confusing if one arrives late at night.

Real castle experience in a wondefully restored castle with spacious rooms, high ceilings, nicely furnished and decirated - we had a lovely suite overlooking spa complex. Loved the interior court area protected with glass roof for dining and cocktails, very attentive and friendly staff, nice spa and pool area, great massages, wonderful big garden to walk around with kids and dogs around the castle with beautiful views of Beaujolais countryside. Wonderful stay for the whole family!

Not many big landmarks nearby, the castle itself is the main experience of our stay, though we enjoyed little villages nearby and biking in the nearby countryside. A bit more variety of dinner and gastro restaurant menu and maybe some changes in breakfast buffet every now and then would be nice.

Stunning location and beautiful historic chateau. Lovely spa, manager and staff really friendly and helpful

We missed having a shower in the room (although I understand there are rooms in the new part with showers) the biggest thing for us was that as as we were there for 6 days the menu didn’t change for the entire time and there was really very little for a vegetarian. Even for my husband who is meat eater. There are many meat eaters who don’t like the idea of fois gras and veal and yet they were the major dishes on the menu.

The rooms are huge and historical. We had a large castle room and felt like royalty. The restaurant meals are excellent, the staff ultra-helpful and friendly without being obsequious, and the views... the views of the rolling golden Beaujolais countryside could keep me occupied for days.

Only as others have pointed out that a snack / light bite option would be useful in the evening if dining during the day. There is only the main restaurant. We had a cheese and ham board with drinks.

Suite was beautiful, all elements high quality. Welcome tray, plus daily coffee and mineral water. Natural surroundings, exceptional views of countryside and a beautiful garden full of cherry trees. I would love to go back during the summer months for a picnic under the trees.

Service in the resturant was haphazard; i think new staff were being inducted.General manager was on hand, and we had a private tour of the property and he found us a table for dinner in the resturant.

The dinner was delicious The breakfast was excellent and there was plenty of it The aircon was very good for such an old building The history of the chateau was very interesting

The dog bed was too slippery for the dog to sleep on The dinner though delicious was on the small side and I didn't want to fill up with bread The staff were very pleasant but not coordinated
