This is a perfect hotel to visit the Loire Valley and Fontevraud Abbey. The hotel is situated INSIDE the old abbey in a beautiful park with direct access to the church where the tombs of Alienor of Aquitaine and Richard Lionheart are displayed. The hotel has been renovated with the aim of staying true to the monacal lifestyle, combining very cleverly beautiful woodwork and stone. Yet it is very comfortable, superbly stylish, perfectly quiet and eco friendly. No extravaganza, just beautiful and feeling good. The people at the reception are incredibly friendly and competent, visibly happy to work there. The food is superlative. There was sadly no available table at the main Michelin 1☆ restaurant (you need to book 2 months in advance I am told) but the "basket" served for dinner (which you can eat in the monks dining hall) was excellent. The breakfast was first class, all home made with the best products. Congratulations to the Fontevraud team which makes this hotel an absolute " Must Stay".

Very close to perfection. Maybe the glass of red wine from their local production served with the dinner "basket"...if I really try hard to find one criticism. Note that the wine list of the main restaurant which I checked is excellent with many gems at very reasonable prices: I recommend you pick a wine by the glass or a bottle from their wine list ...and ( no offence) the waiting list at the Michelin starred restaurant

Fabulous tranquil setting and the son et lumière was wonderful. Breakfast expensive but very high quality.

Room incredibly hot. No a/c. A very noisy ineffective fan with bright lights - no use at all. Apparently they can put ice in it to make it cooler buts we weren’t told that. On ground floor with windows without insect mesh.. so disappointed cos so enthusiastic re: son et lumière.. but hardly any sleep at at all.. finally risked the insect bites and threw window open as heart thumping so wildly with overheating. Maybe just a problem with Room 3? ..

I had the best night's sleep of our trip at this superb hotel. Our room was spacious and beautifully (but simply) furnished and we had a bath to relax in after a long day's cycle. There is a good secure bike store with some tools available for emergency maintenance. The private night time viewing of the abbey is amazing and dinner in the restaurant was superb.

The abbey and hotel are about 7km uphill from Montsoreau on the main Loire a Velo cycle route. Loop route 10 from Montsoreau goes up to Fontevraud but goes up and down across vineyards (tough at the end of a longer than expected day), but we returned to Montsoreau the next morning by the main road which was a gentler gradient throughout. We had a long day's cycle ahead so decided we didn't have time to stop for breakfast which was a shame. We also wished we had been less tired when we arrived at the hotel and had been able to spend more time exploring the abbey and reading its information boards. Our room was quite warm when we first arrived at the hotel as there is no air conditioning but a thunderstorm that evening freshened the air so the room cooled at night with the window open.

simple is the key word with essentials Relaxing and mind stilling Room quiet and comfortable Clean and fine for sleeping Not a room to relax in Better to go into the salon and enjoy the comfort of the sofas The dining area is only for breakfast Nicely located in covered cloisters with a quiet purposeful directive Buffet style and conveniently sorted in to catergories Breakfast is varied but not as a wide choice as per usual hotel maybe But absolutely lovely Be prepared to use reusable glass bottles for water still and sparkling all provided by reception A small amount of toiletries provided Better to have ones own Be prepared to walk from Car Park to reception Luggage collected by gold buggy Umbrellas provide when necessary to walk arounf the grounds Access to abbey superb and Grounds marvellous A selection of picnic baskets available for eating in the refectory Otherwise Village eateries booked for you with recommendations from reception Walking distance so wine a definate must! All very accessible and enjoyable On site cafe and bar separate to hotel Also michelin star restaurant if you book months in advance Souvenir bookshop and ticket office with more information

Nothing upset us The staff were super helpful

This is a very special place to stay within the confines of Fontevraud Abbaye. The hotel is a beautiful contemporary renovation of old abbey buildings with a small but very well thought out and equipped bedroom. Very helpful reception team that collect your bags from the car park in a golf buggy as you walk through the abbey gardens. Breakfast was exceptional served around a cloisters with all sorts of local cheeses, breads, meats and plus the usual continental offerings. Best part was the oeuf cocotte with a creamy bacon sauce. The best part of the location is your room key gives you access to the whole abbey after the ticket office is closed and all the tourists have gone home. Right through to half past midnight you can explore the abbey and the royal tombs in complete tranquility without a soul about.

The hotel restaurant is closed on the Monday we stayed and it seems that the village has insufficient tables in the local restaurants to accommodate all the hotel guests, so be sure to book early. Our helpful hotel reception tried all seven options without success. There is a decent family run pizza restaurant on the village edge called La Delice if all others are booked, otherwise it is a trip back into Saumur.

The rooms were clean, with comfortable bedding and proper amenities (eg towel, shower gel, tv). There was a private carpark onsite as well, and the hotel provides free shuttle service to transport our luggage from the carpark to the hotel lobby. The establishment definitely preserved its deep history, where we got to explore the compound and its museum.

Amazing place. Food phenomenal. Note though that restaurant reservations need to be made weeks or months ahead. They had a great picnic basket dinner option when reservations are full. Breakfast was amazingly good. The option to walk around the monestary at night and early am without tourists made all the difference.

That reservations at restaurant were full but that does not reflect poorly on them, just shows how good the food is.

This was a unique experience, very special. The site is magnificent. We received a friendly welcome Good bike storage. We had a hermit's picnic, alone on a terrace at sunset. It was magical, and the food was delicious. Wandering around the empty site at night was unforgettable. Breakfast in the cloisters was wonderful.

The style of the room is deliberately spartan. We liked it, but I can see that others may not. The bathroom was stylish, but more form over substance. Huge washbasin, but would have preferred smaller and more space for toiletries.

This was My second visit. She’s quite stunning. Rooms are very modern and comfortable.

I was disappointed to find the abbaye open at night to the public for a light show which made it very busy as a residents I wish to visit the Abi at night. I was disappointed with the Michelin star restaurant. There was no atmosphere, albeit the food looked amazing. It didn’t have any strong tastes.

fantastic place, we received an absolute 5 star experience from this hotel. the staff greeted us in the car park and brought our luggages to the hotel reception. we could visit the abbey at night and then have a warm cup of tea or coffee in the lobby. everything was absolutely magical and definitely an experience unlike anything else. would highly recommend staying at the hotel.

it would be nice to have some warm breakfast options but the breakfast was also really nice.
