The property has really easy access to the pistes from the ground floor. It has a heated boot room. Our room had a view straight out over the Front de Neige ski area and was ideally situated. There was a very tiny balcony. I liked having the bath for aprés-ski soak. The kitchen area was quite well equipped. The staff were very helpful.
The 5 pm check out is much too late when you arrive. The 10 am check out is too early. We paid 40 euros to check in early which we felt was necessary. The room is a studio and just one room. There is nowhere to sit, apart from the little dining table. The storage was not sufficient. There is nowhere to sit in the hotel when you have vacated your room apart from one small settee. The central breakfast area is noisy and we would not pay 18 euros each.

Our stay at Sowell Chastillon was made by the staff. The facility itself is OK and it is evident the physical building is starting to deteriorate (for example, on the last day the elevator was shut down due to water leaking into the elevator car). However, any small things that were less than ideal were made up for by the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff (in particular I remember Tim and Marina). At one point we realized we didn't have sheets for the 3rd bed in our room. It was quite late but Marina was able to find freshly laundered sheets quickly. Also, we decided to check out late at the very last minute and the staff were gracious and helpful (there was a 40 euro fee, but this was clearly laid out from the beginning). Breakfast was OK. There were plenty of hot, scrambled eggs (from a powdered mix, I'm sure, but that is what is possible with so many people eating in a short time). There was cheese and yogurt and fresh fruits and plenty of pastries. The room itself was fine and more importantly clean and functional. It was small (20m2?) but the view from the large window (balcony side of the building) was terrific. Finally, the location...the Chastillon is truly a ski-in/out resort. If being on the fronte de pistes is important to you then you may find it a good choice to stay here. The ESF ski school rendezvous point is just slightly uphill from the hotel, so a very short distance to travel if you have a child in the school. You could even watch the Piou Piou Club from the balcony if your room has one. There is also a ski and ski boot storage area with a small area for putting your boots on. Despite its small size it seemed to work ok for the many guests needing the service. One last comment...the kitchenette was surprisingly well equipped. The only odd thing is that there was a half-sized dishwasher but no oven. I found that an odd choice. The microwave had a grill, but you couldn't really cook anything with it.
The Chastillon is restricted by the poor architectural design of the building. The entryway is narrow and cramped (difficult for dozens of people all trying to reach the pistes for 0900 hrs, each carrying skis, boots, etc). The access to the ski storage is somewhat difficult and the breakfast serving area is small for the number of guests being served. But none of that can be overcome, really, due to the design of the building. Given the hand they were dealt the management has done the best they can. Also, the age of the building is starting to show, however the inside of the room was fine and everything worked. The elevator being down on the last day was unfortunate, especially for any guests who expected to wear their ski boots to their room.

It was right by the piste with a view from the room over the beginners slope. It had a lovely balcony. The ski storage area was great with heated boot hangers, although the area for putting on your boots was far too small.
You couldn’t check in till 5 which is too late if you have been travelling all day, especially as you have to vacate your room by 10. There is no lounge or comfy place to sit apart from one settee by reception. There is no bar area. The room was supposed to sleep 3 but that would have been far too small as storage would have been impossible and nowhere to sit apart from on the beds,

Great location ski in/ski out. The property has a great manager (Evelyn)who was super helpful to my wife Nicole, when she needed help. She went above and beyond to assist us. Staff generally friendly and communal areas are kept clean and tidy. Rooms are consistently high standard, with a great view of the slopes ( if you get a Mountain View). Thanks again Evelyn for your help ( Leon & Nicole!)
Breakfast is very expensive at 18 euros! per head…

We loved the location to the slopes and the shops. It's fanastic to ski right up to the hotel.
It wasn't that we didn't like it but it would have been nice to have had a bar in the property or a place to sit outside

Excellent location and friendly, helpful staff.
Could have done with basic amenities in room such as coffee, sugar, washing up liquid and sponge.
