Wonderful medieval town! Best I've seen when it comes to that. The hotel was very clean, the rooms (we got one for my husband, son, and I and another for daughter and son-in-law) were both nice and included a full bathroom with both tub and shower. We thought the rooms were a decent size too, ours, with three beds and a desk was on the larger size, more like US rooms. The second room was a decent size as well, unlike some mini rooms in Europe as compared to US standards. We walked throughout the town and also went outside of the walled area, nice, peaceful nature walk.
Nothing not to like. unless you're looking for an action-oriented stay as this is a peaceful location to visit just outside of Lyon. We prefer the smaller towns over the large cities. City life can be experienced anywhere, anytime.

The perfect hotel for our first night in Provence. Perouges is a tiny, beautiful village and this hotel was the ideal spot. The terrace for breakfast is quiet and beautiful, right in the center square. Great place to wander around the cobblestone streets and stop for a drink at the next door shop. We got in late, so missed dinner, but the staff brought a charcuterie board and wine to our room, which was perfect. We had dinner in the restaurant the next night and it was one of the best! Great staff, very friendly.
Dragging/carrying our suitcases down to the train station in Meximieux was challenging as most of the 30 minute walk was not paved in any fashion. And we had some trouble getting tix at the kiosk there. If I were to do it again, I would hire a car to drive us back to the Lyon station for our next leg. We were a bit early for the tourist season, so most shops/restaurants were closed, but for our first leg, we didn't mind.

The room (Ducs) was exceptional - even the antechamber to the bedroom was bigger than some hotel rooms, and it was beautifully furnished. The location could not have been better for exploring the lovely old town. Although the town was very busy when we arrived in the afternoon (there was some event on involving old cars), the crowds disappeared by the evening.
Getting to the hotel can feel a bit scary, with the old cobbled streets, but they escort you to a private parking area that is secured overnight. Lugging the luggage from there over the cobbles can be a bit of a struggle. We didn't eat at the hotel in the evening - it all looked a bit communal - but there are other restaurants in town (we ate at the Auberge du Coq, 5 minutes' walk away, which was excellent). Breakfast at the hotel is rather plain (baguette, croissants, etc.) but good quality, and you get a slice of the local galette.

Ah what a surprise this was! One of loveliest places I’ve stayed. Good atmosphere, extremely peaceful. The village was tiny and in the middle of the week quiet and very picturesque. I booked for one but was upgraded to a huge room, kind of an apartment, nicely decorated and got a beautiful garden for myself to sit and write for two days. The restaurant was excellent, lovely breakfast with pretty dishes and flowers everywhere and a possibility to book good quality lunch/dinner.

Beautiful historic 15th century building housed the rooms we stayed in. We were a family of 5. We stayed in the family room and a superior double. All very comfortable and warm. Stunning furnishings and surroundings in this fantastic preserved village. We ate a light lunch in the hostellerie - lovely charcuterie board and soup. Breakfast was served in the lounge of the building - a nice continental breakfast with hot drinks.
Tea and coffee making facilities in the bedrooms or in the lounge would have been nice. Only 2 glasses available for 4 of us in one room.

The staff was very welcoming and helpful. They did also help me before my stay with answering my questions and accommodating my requests. I did enjoy the history of the place and the family owned aspect of it. Furthermore, the location is magical and the room was spacious. The restaurant was also a great experience, very cozy (due to the fireplace and decor) yet of high standard. Great traditional dinner and breakfast. I had high expectations of the place and it delivered.

The staff were very friendly and the setting and ambience is definitely unique - a "one off"! We appreciated the manager's kind offer to take us to the railway station on the day we were taking a train trip. The village, a big portion of which seems to be owned by the hotel, is really a heritage theme park... but why not?!?
The price is perhaps a little high, but then again you are paying for a unique setting so that is understood! The hotel (and other businesses in the village) seem beset by staff shortages, which affects opening times and restaurant hours. Why is hiring staff such a problem? The arrival arrangements would benefit from more staff briefing / training. We were first taken to a locked garage, then to open parking. We had to carry our bags from the hotel front to the room, which was in a separate building. It was quite tiring over the cobble stones and in 32c heat! And then up 2 flights of steep stairs! It was only later that we realised we could have been directed to drive our car... right up outside the house where the room was!

Such a great find and experience. There was a French restaurant onsite. Dinner consisted of local specialties made with farm fresh produce and meats, was delicious and we loved the vibe in the dining room. We also ate breakfast there every morning which was very convenient. Everyone was very friendly and happy to have us there. Felt more like a bed and breakfast than a hotel.
Nothing not to like!

WOW! Not to be missed. The walled city of Perouges may be one of the most romantic towns in all of France. Certainly within a short drive of Lyons. The Hostellerie is located within the walls so one can wander about in the town during the evening when whatever crowds were there in the morning are all gone. The staff are welcoming. The restaurant is truly memorable! Parking is convenient and included in the cost of the room. We must go back soon!

The whole experience was a delight. We were guided to a secure parking spot very close to the accommodation. Our accommodation was in a lovely building just a stone's throw from the Hostellerie. The excellent breakfast was in the Hostellerie which is superb. We didn't book dinner so can't comment on that.
There was nothing we didn't like but will mention that there is not a lift so you may need to carry luggage up stairs.
