Food was excellent though a little expensive. The service was absolutely wonderful, especially from Saroj who have a lot of personal attention.

The suites in the heritage building could be modernised with an intercom, a TV and most importantly, a tea/coffee arrangement.

Windamere is a very charming property thanks to its colonial vintage. The location is perhaps the best in Darjeeling. Located right above the main square, it's very accessible and the perfect place to explore the town, and due to its height it's surrounded by beautiful views. My favourite thing about the stay was the live fireplace which was the perfect end to a long day of walking in the rain!

Since the property is quite old, some of the fittings may appear a bit worn. Also there was no power for sometime and there's no backup on the premises.

Just the wifi

The location, the ambience, and the colonial heritage makes it a great place to stay. The service is good, the food is delicious, and, last but not the least, the personal touch of Ms Elizabeth Clarke makes one overlook the small flaws, and, instead savour the charm and beauty of the property in the backdrop of the Himalayas. An additional gift is the wonderful documentary film produced by Ms Clarke on the history of the place, enjoyed in the Club room while sipping piping hot Darjeeling tea. To top it all, Ms Clarke handed over, so thoughtfully, a packet of biscuits, so that we wouldn't remain hungry during our return journey to the Bagdogra Airport.

The bathtub is a little too small for comfort. The coal fire in the fireplace emits some fumes. The TV is inside a wooden cabinet, its orientation making it difficult to control and watch from the bed. The wifi is quite weak.

The hospitality, the colonial charm, the freshly prepared food, the authenticity of the entire place makes it so warm. I had a lovely time even though everything wasn’t perfect but the overall vibe of the place made me ignore all the tiny little flaws.

Appreciating a place like this requires a different taste. Its very exclusive so i can understand why some Indians might not find it suitable. But despite everything, Windamere was a lovely experience.

The location is absolutely stunning.. this is located on hill top and so away from the usual noice but at the same time right at the centre of attraction mall.. the food specially continental dishes are awesome. This is old colonial building with coal fire but I did not miss anything.. it is so calming that I promised to come back

Staying at the Windamere is like walking back into time. One of India's oldest colonial properties, the Windamere in Darjeeling is such a fine establishment with so much history seeping from every nook and corner of its property. Built in 1841, each of its well preserved rooms have a story to tell. We were also fortunate to have met Elizabeth Clarke who's the MD of the property and a treasure trove of anecdotes! Fantastic location and very close to Darjeeling mall and the best restaurants in town. I really want to come again during Christmas (I've heard the dinner and the experience during the last week of December is the best) Overall, I cannot recommend it enough!
