Just by the lake. Ferry will stop at the property. There is a private swimming area. Eateries and mini mart are a few minutes away by scooter. Location is pretty ideal. Highly recommended in house restaurant has good view of the lake and serves delicious food at a reasonable price. Drinking water can be replenished at the restaurant. Wifi works well in the property. Scooter available on site. Property can also arrange transport out of Lake Toba to various destinations. Staff is friendly, helpful and efficient. Clean room is huge with comfortable bed and pillows. Bathroom is big. Room has shelving racks and seating area (both indoors and outdoors). Sufficient power socket available on both sides of the bed.

The beds were EXTREMELY comfortable. The soft and clean linens with a real blanket gave me the best sleep in days (while it lasted). The views were exceptional. It's truly a vibe to just sit outside the room and look at the lake. Lastly, the food at this hotel is actually exceptional. I chose to eat there for almost every meal during my stay after tasting the food on the first night.

I got the economy twin room, which was directly under another room. The roof board to the above room was purely just wood, so when the guest above starting stomping around continuously from 5:30-7am, I was woken up and could no longer sleep.

Management and staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Quality of meals was outstanding and delicious. Incredible views. I enjoyed having a dip in the lake. Room facilities were adequate with being ale to sit at the terrace to enjoy the views.

My stay was timed with building work in the room next door which started at 7am and went through the day. I could also hear conversations from the room on the other side and from upstairs. I also had the experience of the Independent day celebrations which meant loud ceremonies late into the night from the hotel next door which isn't a criticism on Romlan but a note for the future!

We loved our stay here but would like to warn there are some issues with the original Batak bungalow. The bed is very old with springs you can feel. The entrance is about three feet high with a bar across the bottom. Also the bathroom is outside and down steps. Just be aware if these things could be an issue. Having said that we really enjoyed our stay here. The house has a lovely balcony with fabulous views. The staff are so nice and the food is excellent and affordable. I never wanted to eat anywhere else as it would mean one meal less at Romlans. Would happily have stayed longer.

We really enjoyed our time at Romlan Guesthouse. We stayed in one of the Batak style houses during our trip which was a very nice experience, as you had a magnificent view over the lake. Right infront of the guesthouse the little ferry stops and you can also go for a swim or rent a kayak. The breakfast was not included but the menu was huge and you could choose from a great variety of foods. The staff was always friendly and also helped us to organize a bus ride to Medan. We would definitely stay here again - it’s the perfect location to explore Tuk-Tuk and Samosir.

Communication in English was a bit challenging at times. Besides the very clean bathroom we were surprised to find the toilet seat in terrible old condition with stains. This should definitely be fixed.

The location is perfect. The boat stops at the property. The private beach is perfect and the location in the village also. The services and the food is great and good priced. They bake their owns sweets and bread. The brownies are exceptional This was the only place completely full with people traveling, so it was easy to meet and socialize with other travelers Of course there are things to improve but the ratio between price and what you get for the price is excellent

There are always things that can be improved this place. They were Small things that didn’t impact my stay.

Romlan Guesthouse exceeded my expectations with the Lake Toba view and the lakeside view from my room. Moreover, my room is close to the guesthouse restaurant/counter. The guesthouse's restaurant has a great variety of food, but I recommend tourists try out their local food like Mie Gombak. The guesthouse is well-decorated and has a Hawaiian beach vibe to it. Overall, my stay there is great and fun. The staff there are also helpful and friendly. Thank you Romlan!

-The main guesthouse is located nearer to the lakeside than the main road. I have to walk downhill and up the bumpy and rocky side road just to reach the restaurant/check-in counter. -The room does not provide a fan. The room will only get cold and comfortable after 3am to 7am. Before those times, I was tossing and turning as I was sweating quite hard to find a comfortable position to sleep.

We stayed for a total of 9 nights in Romlan; in two different rooms. Where to start with the things we liked? First of all, the staff of Romlan is very friendly and helpful. They even helped us with calling and getting to the local pharmacy to get some medicines for sickness (one of us got ill and they called the pharmacy that was closed due to the Sunday Service and they opened up the pharmacy for us). The food and drinks of their own restaurant were amazing and very tasty & variable; good price value as well! The location of Romlan is also good: the boat drops you off at their pier and all the things in Tuk Tuk are on walking distance. The views from the rooms and restaurant are amazing. If you want to hire a scooter bike you can without signing for anything and you don't have to fuel up the tank (when you get the bike, the tank is full). A free refill water station is available and also some tips & tricks about the surroundings of Romlan and the transport options from Lake Toba to other places like Berastagi or Medan. Definitely recommended to book your stay at Romlan when you are looking for a place to stay in Tuk Tuk.

Our first room (first floor) was great, but there were a lot of termites on our ceiling and walls. Occasionally some dirt would fall from the ceiling onto the bed (just some fust or something, nothing big). Our second room (second floor) was much better. There were still some termites, but only near the shower. Maybe we got some older rooms or it was a result from a certain climate period?

The relaxation and magic with Romlan starts once you get off he ferry and on the grounds. The hotel is idyllically located right at the lake - I could here the waves at night in bed :). Other than that I really liked my own terrace and the community areas. The restaurant which is open all day long caters to many target groups and does an amazing job with it. They bake they own bread which was super yummy. Last but not least the staff: everyone was really nice and super funny. They help you with everything you need e.g. organizing your onward travel or tours on the island.

I loved stepping out of my room every day to see the beautiful lake just metres from my door, watching the sky and weather change from moment to moment, hearing the gentle lapping. Stepping off the porch landing for a swim in the lake. Free kayaks.

The mosquito wire in my room had many holes that were repaired by gaffer tape that was peeling off. Poor bit of maintenance that did not match the rest of the high standards here. The restaurant was so popular that it was usually busy busy at meal times. I ate at the many other restaurants in town that were mostly very delicious and very quiet. Plenty of great choices.
