The villas are next to the rice fields and they provide amazing views. The guests can hear the sounds of nature, relax and enjoy every moment of their stay in Ubud, away from the busy city centre. It is straightforward to locate the villas' parking area by car or motorcycle and then walk a short distance to the villas (2 minutes walk). The path is always lit during the night. The villas are built from wood and they offer plenty of space. They have a private pool that recycles the water 24h and is lit during the night. They offer fully equipped private kitchen and bathroom areas. They offer ceiling fans for ventilation. The most important asset of the villas is the staff. All members of staff are very approachable, kind, and friendly. They do their best every day and night to ensure that guests are happy. Ira, the property manager, facilitated a smooth overall stay by sorting out our meals, making a birthday cake available for my partner, organising a romantic dinner for us and helping with anything else needed. Nyoman and Ayu cooked great meals for breakfast and dinner. Dewa, the night-time security guard, was available when we needed his help. Tunik, maintenance and gardener, takes care the villas' landscape and they look so beautiful. We have a special mention to Kantu, the villa's tour operator, who exceeded all our expectations. He made every plan we had possible. We explored many different places in Bali together, from temples to waterfalls, and local communities and we learnt a lot about the Balinese culture. He is a great man, always willing to go the extra mile to make guests' stay unforgettable. We highly appreciate all the effort and time he spent driving us around Bali and we wish him all the best. Apologies if I forget somebody, they all did a great job and we are grateful. We would highly recommend the villas to people who wish to stay closer to nature and appreciate Bali's natural beauty and unique culture.

We liked everything

Beautiful little piece of jungle for getting away and relax, from the hustle and bustle inside Ubud. Our taxi left us in the midle of a small gravel road, from where we followed a small path along a river, to enter the Retreat. Walking though a path with several meters tall lush plants to our villa made us really feel submerged in the lush plant and jungle life of the Ubud area. We enjoyed cooking and having our lunches and dinners in our private kitchen and pool area. Smooth checkin, great service and amazing staff. Especially a enormous appreciation to the manager Ira, who helped us on several provat occasions, with dissease and accidents. We also rented a motorbike for our whole stay, which was managed and booked through our hotel manager.

Unfortunately, we arrived in the middle of some construction days, where there had to finish up a yoga center in the back. Management tried to accommodate the best they could, but the noise was still there. Appearently we got a discounted price when booking on the booking.com app, but we still think it was fair of then to mention that we were to expect noise. It was a honeymoon trip. So thats the least they could inform us about. Other than that we enjoyed the area. We had a couple lesser experiences with western food from their hotel kitchen, so we ended up only ordering local cuisine, which they cooked to perfection. seemed like their head chef was on a sick leave, and therefor there was a dive in the cooking level at our time of stay.

The property is beautiful and links so well with the environment. The common areas are open to the outside and you feel so grounded in the beautiful scenery of the rice terraces and the jungle beyond. At night there were fireflies in the rice terraces and occasionally they would even fly into the villa. Magical. The pool area is stunning. The three bedrooms were all private and unique and separate from the main open areas. Each has an ensuite and there is an extra toilet in the common space. Ira was our main contact person, and she was absolutely lovely and incredibly helpful. We could contact her through WhatsApp any time and she was very responsive. Kantu, Masakali's driver, was so patient, picking us up from the airport when our flight was delayed, stopping so we could get some groceries and again to get some take away for dinner to eat at the Villa on the first night. He drove us around a couple of times during our stay and he was full of ideas about local sights to visit and happily answered all my questions about culture, scenery etc. Everyone made us feel so special. The area is away from the busyness of Ubud in a village surrounded by rice fields. We enjoyed being in a quieter area as we experienced the peacefulness and were still able to walk to three lovely restaurants and also enjoyed a dinner at the villa one night.

It wasn't a problem for us, but to avoid arguments, it is probably worth being aware that the rooms are different sizes (the upstairs room is massive!) and in different styles.

It had the perfect view, especially if you want to be away from the bustling city. The staff were so lovely and accommodating, one of our favourite parts (apart from the owner’s cat which was a bonus). Ira responds really quickly to our requests and all the staff were helpful as well as considerate.

Not really the accommodation’s fault but it can be hard to find with online taxis so lots of stress initially. However, just pin it on the map and give directions then you’ll be fine. We wanted this hotel because it’s near nature but the bugs can be quite a nuisance so we didn’t get to enjoy the facilities as much since we stayed in our bedrooms. But they were nice enough to provide mosquito repellents. Maybe there could be other ways to repel the insects (e.g., mosquito coils or outdoor bug control bomb).

We stayed at the Akasha Villa, and our experience was truly amazing! The views from our living room were stunning, making us feel like we were in the middle of the jungle, all while feeling safe and cared for by the Masakali team. Ira, the excellent manager, took care of all our needs promptly, from morning to night. Kantu was our superb guide, driver, photographer, and babysitter—we enjoyed every single minute of our trips with him. It's a wonderful place with wonderful people, and we would recommend it to everyone. We hope to come back one day. Thank you so much, Masakali!

Nothing, if we only had more time :-)

I want to spend a few words to thank everyone at Masakali retreat, from the owner, to the manger Ira and all the staff for welcoming us with kindness. We were supposed to stay much longer but we had to urgently go back home for personal reasons but nevertheless they were able to give us an extraordinary experience. The place is stunning, the bungalow is in the middle of the nature with a private pool facing beautiful rice fields. The place is clean and fully equipped, driver is avalaible upon request for airport transfers and tour around the area. I work as a travel coordinator and I rarely find such high standards of quality and professionalism at a very reasonable price. Thank you! We will come back

This was the best place to stay that we have ever booked! From the organization, the breakfast, the staff, the villa/pool, the view - everything was amazing. Ira was especially great. She was our main point of contact. She helped us arrange pickup/dropoff from the airport, scooter rental (even for a day that we weren't even staying here), was there to give tips/recommendations, and help with whatever you could possibly need. Freya, the cat, also paid us a visit, which we loved. The location is also perfect. We were close enough to Ubud to go for dinner/shopping, but far enough away to avoid the traffic/noise.

The only thing that I could think of that was less than perfect, was the privacy. We would be in the pool or lounging around and someone would come by often to sweep up leaves etc. I would prefer a more private entrance/maybe a gate? Again, this is me trying to find something.

I stayed 4 nights here and had a truly magical experience. From arrival, the villas are a relatively short walk from the road but the stafff were there ready to take my bags for me. On arrival we were given a quick brief on how it all works and ordered room service. Mornings are spectacular from Chandra villa with sunrise and the mountains announcing themselves from the clouds. The local farmers ducks make their way across the rice fields and it’s truly everything you’d expect. The room is clean beds super comfortable. But don’t forget you’re literally in the middle of the jungle. Bugs, mosquitos, lizards and geckos and the occasional dog may be seen. The net around the bed helped a lot and surprising only the 1 mosquito bite between us. Most of all tho, the staff were incredible. Ira was hosting us and went above and beyond anything I asked from her. 10/10 from all aspects of this place.

We most enjoyed having the infinity pool surrounded by the beautiful natural scenery. We also enjoyed Ira, the guest manager who was so incredibly helpful and accommodating! She even brought us a durian from her home to try! She went above and beyond and really ensured we were most comfortable.

The location is about 30 minutes out of Ubud Centre which makes it quiet and peaceful, but it does mean you either need a driver or to hire a scooter if you want to go into town. We hired a scooter which wasn't an issue.

The room was absolutely amazing, very comfortable bed and fabulous bathroom. The view of the rice fields and mountains was wonderful. The breakfast and dinner was beautiful and the location was just so lovely. Staff were amazingly wonderful and nothing was too much for them. They really made our stay and organised everything for us! Motorbikes, massages, food and anything else we needed, nothing was too much for them. Ira was so helpful and made our stay amazing. We 100% recommend this beautiful retreat.
