The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and clean and the breakfast was very good. The location was very central and very close to all the major sites that we needed to visit in the old city. The selection of breakfast items was very good and the dining facilities were quite expansive. In sum, a very nice 4 star hotel, unlike some other 4 star hotels in Italy that are more like three stars in terms of value.
The restaurant in the courtyard plays loud music until close to midnight when the last of the customers have left. This is not the fault of hotel management who require the restaurant staff to turn off the music at 10, and are very responsive to the complaints of guests about this. Nevertheless, I would suggest that when you book a room, put in a request for a room that does not face the inner courtyard if you want to make sure that your are not disturbed by the noise in the restaurant after 10 pm.

We spent one night at Maxxim hotel during our trip further south. The hotel was great and exceeded our expectations. We booked a loft apartment that turned out very spacious for a family of 4, clean, and comfortable (loft apartments have internal stairs, we enjoyed this setup as very original but worth to know if traveling with small kids). The breakfast was great and served outside in the patio - gorgeous. The hotel location is very central, in the heart of Ferrara, with an amazing pizzeria just across the street and all other restaurants, bars, and tourist attractions of Ferrara easily reachable on foot. Parking garage is paid additionally but very convenient, close, and with smooth access. Reception staff was friendly and provided us with several local recommendations. Booking early, we were able to get an excellent price as well. Bottom line: nothing to complain about.

Where to start? The breakfast is fantastic, bed comfortable, staff helpful and friendly, everything clean and location was excellent (perfect for a pizza from Guiseppe's, gelato from Gelataria Baluardi or stroll along the Via dell Volte). Excellent value for money. We were very happy with our stay in a loft room at the Maxxim Hotel. Helpful to note that tourist tax is paid on checkout and asked for in cash. There is a Postamat ATM just a block or so away on a corner near the walls.
The toilet seat was a bit loose the first day (fixed when room was cleaned) and the toilet lid had a tendency to fall down, but that is due to the cistern being in the way. It didn't bother us once we realised why it happened. Also the seat on the foldout couch/futon kept sliding forward, but we found it has a zip was undone on the back of the cushion. It loops around a bar at the back of the seat and kept it in place perfectly once done up.

The ambience is almost unbeatable! This converted palace in the old town of historic Ferrara with the Castello Estense just a few minutes walk away is a gem in itself. We stayed there three nights and could have stayed longer if there had been time. We got a large room almost the size of two ordinary smallish rooms. Beds were extremely comfy. The room itself is well insulated with efficient aircon. Rest room verging on the luxurious. There was a kettle and tea bags. The full and varied breakfast was a pleasant surprise. Not to mention the restaurant staff. Efficient and service minded. As was the reception staff. Extra plus for the decent hotel bikes for easy rent! Counting the above the hotel is a real bargain. Extra: As Ferrara is food we can recommend the rather inconspicuous restaurant just opposite! That's for location after a long bike ride or walking for hours.
We can't really blame the hotel for a number of pigeons outside. But at times they were rather annoying. Just use your earplugs! The room was spacious enough for a writing desk. But there wasn't one. A pity.

The hotel is well furnished and nicely renovated and located right on the edge of the historic district, just across the road from the vaulted walk. it's a short essay walk to the centre of town and to most of the major attractions. The breakfast is very good and at night the restaurant is much better than expected from a hotel restaurant.
The wifi in the hotel was very poor. We tried 4 different devices but either of us could get connections from any site outside of Italy except in YouTube and Facebook. The hotel were unable to resolve the problem.

Lovely quiet location but still close to the centre of Ferrara. After the lift broke down temporarily the hotel agreed to move us from the fourth floor to the first floor as I have newly diagnosed mobility issues. Staff also helped when I had to visit the hospital.
While the breakfast was good, the arrangement of the buffet, particularly the coffee area was illogical and very awkward - up a few arduous steps. Something to reconsider The woman who did the coffee service was a delight - helpful and warm.

Easy check in with desk staff, location very accessible. A bit of a walk from the train, but not for us! Bus stop is close by. Spotless room and bath. All larger than expected. Room faced the street, but not a lot of noise. Breakfast was a nice choice of pastries, fruit, meats, eggs. Plenty of coffee. Very good value.
Room is on 3 levels: Bath and table/fridge, living room, bedroom, which was fine for us but if you require only one, please say so. Makes a lot of stairs for the toilet in the middle of the night.

Helpful staff, perfect location, lovely breakfast, in a renaissance palace converted into a modern hotel while maintaining its original structure and charm. The price was very reasonable. Parking.
The nature of the renovation meant there were several small steps up and down which required paying attention to where one is stepping. The room was clean and comfortable enough but would be improved if there were tissues, toiletries and a waste paper bin in the bathroom! There were two pillars on the bed and one in the cupboard so my husband had to take one from the couch to read in bed. I would suggest 4 pillows and two of them should be soft, preferably down. For a 4 star hotel, these small things should be standard.

The location of the hotel was excellent. Just 10 minutes walk into the centre. Lots of good restaurants and bars close. The receptionist was exceptionally helpful; giving us recommendations for restaurants and organising private secure parking for our car
Breakfast but probably because we are British. Although scrambled eggs were offered, they were rather dry and overcooked. I would have preferred some bacon to go with it rather than wurst. Also the internet was very slow.

Everything was perfect. One of the most beautiful hotel rooms I have ever stayed . Really big and comfortable. The breakfast is not rich but it's adequate and tasteful. The receptionists are smily and kind and you can leave your luggage there if you arrive early .
The elevator allows only one person so it's a bit of a trouble . Our fridge was broken and we couldn't storage our food . There was no working heat in the room , but it was not such a big problem since the room had a good temperature.
