We were looking for a ryokan that offered private onsen in our rooms, and found the perfect one. Facilities, staff, and Kaiseki meals for dinner and breakfast were wonderful. They have a rooftop deck with a nice relaxing view, and private onsen are available for rent for a larger group. Overall, a great experience!

Location is a bit far from the restaurants and shops of Hakone Yumoto, so one either needs to talk a long walk up/down steep streets, or have a car, or take a shuttle ride. This is obviously not the fault of the ryokan, who try to make things more convenient by offering a free shuttle bus. But something to be aware of when making a booking.

Lovely staff, beautiful clean room and as advertised.

This is such a bad thing to complain about but the meals were epic! So big, so much. Which was actually such a delight. It's very traditional and different to western / white people food but we loved the adventure and flavours. The pillow was thick, firm and lumpy .. I don't know if this is cultural but most people would expect a better quality pillow at a 4-star stay. However... I woke up refreshed and well everyday - so the pillow didn't affect my stay much... Perhaps they are onto something

Breakfast and dinner were tasty multi-course, colorful, artistically presented experiences somewhat like a Japanese tapas style. The private onsen on the rooftop at an additional cost was very enjoyable. Clean, wife & I were not offended by any offensive, musty, mold-like odors as some reviewers have stated, just the natural smell of tatami matting we've experienced at other Ryokan establishments. Staff in the dining room and reception area readily acknowledged us & other guests with a smile and greeting.

Would prefer an extra towel for use when utilizing the onsen instead of having to use the one bath towel provided in the room. The futon floor mattress could be thicker like we experienced at other Ryokans on this trip. Climbing the hill to reach the Hotel is a Beast! Even if check-in officially isn't till 3:00 p.m. a shuttle for early arrival and early luggage storage would be nice.

The best accommodation during all our trip in Japan. My partner and I were already looking forward to Hakone, because of all the nature, onsens, vulcanic activity and Aura Tachibana. In our itinerary, we were supposed to go to a bunch of places in Hakone, but when we got inside Aura... we abandoned our plans, just so we could relax in the private inbedroom onsen. Definitely it was the best decision ever, specially after our "speedrun" through Tokyo. Not only the private inbedroom onsen was incredible, the food was amazing and the staff was so nice. Aura also became a really special place for me and my partner, because it was there were we got engaged. We will come back in some years to celebrate again.

It would be nice to have some instructions when using the public onsen, since it was my first time I was kind lost at first.

It was a nice location away from the busier area but within walking distance. The beds were comfortable and the private and public onsen’s were lovely. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. They were helpful suggesting the hakone free pass which gave us 2 days of transport around the area. There were shuttle services to and from the train station if you needed them. We stayed 2 nights and had the Japanese style breakfast the first morning which was a new experience for us and had a very large range of different foods. We asked for the western style breakfast the second day to have a bit of a change. It was also lovely with breads, omelette, yoghurt for ‘dessert’. It was very convenient staying in Hakone-Yumoto to then get around the area without our luggage. The place is a bit tired but still very comfortable with everything you need and few big rooms.

The private onsen was our favorite, the size was spacious for a couple (husband is 6’1) and you can control the temperature. Staff was very friendly. The meals were unique and tasted fresh. The shuttle to and from Aura was very convenient.

Both futon pads were visibly stained, and one of them had a blood stain. I’m surprised they circulate that in their inventory. We paid to reserve the rooftop onsen and the water was way too hot. Likely unsafe for someone to soak in there for 45 mins. The temperature can’t be controlled like the private onsen in the room so we left shortly. Fortunately we had the private open air onsen in our room that we used instead.

Very Comfortable rooms and hotel, shuttle service from town station. Very helpful and pleasant staff. Japanese breakfast was nice, dinner looked very good but we did not try.

Shuttle service often not available, information on how to obtain it was not clear when we arrived so we had to walk uphill with hand luggage, arriving sweaty and tired. The continental breakfast was not very good and quite basic. The pastries not fresh or nice, no fresh milk for coffee and no fruit or honey. Staff speak limited english.

We chose the half board option in the newer tower section of the hotel. The food was traditional Japanese for both breakfast and dinner. These were of excellent quality. The hotel offered us a western breakfast after the third morning (we stayed 6 nights) which was much appreciated after all the Japanese food we had consumed in the previous 2 weeks. The onsen facilities were excellent including the private one in our room. They willingly offered us an extra mattress each after the first night as I have 2 replaced hips. The views from our room of the wooded hills were very pleasing.

The hotel seemed semi deserted as very few guests were booked in. There is a lot of accommodation available close by. The hotel just needed a little more "atmosphere" perhaps with furnishings and music to break the "ice".

We stayed there for 3nights and love the spaciousness of the room, and private onsen at our own balcony. Service was top notch. Especially the Nepali food server. Her spoken English is extremely fluent. She introduced each of the dishes, and was very discreet in clearing our dishes once we were done and to serve the next one on the menu. She was also very attentive. When she found out that my husband has allergy to shellfish, she proposed changes to his food menu. Thank you.

The location may be a little more off beaten but if you drive, that is not an issue at all.

Booked a luxury room for 2 adults with breakfast and dinner included. Breakfast both days were amazing. Lots of small Japanese dishes that were absolutely delicious. Served with hot tea or coffee as well. The kaiseki dinner was amazing as well. We enjoyed the first night's dinner much more than the second night. According to my boyfriend, the steak was out of this world and tender. He was hoping to have it again on the second night, but other wise the dinner was always good. The service at Aura Tachibana however it the star. They really cater to the guest needs and my boyfriend had a good allergy, so for his meals they were able to accommodate him. As far as the service goes, the front desk agents help you carry your luggage in and out of the hotel. As far as transport to the main station goes, they have a designed Aura Tachibana shuttle that you can catch when you check in and check out. This made the trip a lot easier since the hotel and the train is about a 15 minute walk but up and down hills. During the breakfast and dinner service, our servers were always great. We had a luxury room on the 9th floor and the views and private onsen was a 10/10.

Hate to state the cons because we loved a lot of things about this modern ryokan but the beds were a little too firm for our liking. We ending up using the blankets as a 'cushion' and grabbed the extra blankets in the closet to keep us warm. Also, the AC was hard to manuever since google translate had some odd translations for the buttons. AC was a little too warm for our taste and when we did finally figure out how to adjust it to be a little colder, the AC would kind of go into a 'econ' or green mode and shut off and than shut back on with a clicking noise to follow. If you ear plugs, its no biggy but if you don't it can be kind of annoying.
