Best hotel and facilities we had in our 5 week trip in Japan. Location on the river is stunning, with views from our room or the beautiful lobby. Our western-Japanese combo room was enormous and luxurious, with two king single beds plus 2 optional futons in the separate tatami room. Facilities are second to none, with two public indoor/outdoor onsens included in the price, and three private onsen rooms (additional fee). The massive dining room offered a huge range of western and Japanese food for breakfast and dinner, and everything was delicious. Given the facilities, friendly helpful staff and incredible location - we would definitely stay here again on returning to Japan.

Really enjoyed this onsen ryokan with an incredible buffet dinner and breakfast. It's the sort of unfussy place that attracts families. The buffet dinner was much better than I expected - it's no fancy kaiseki ryokan meal (the hotel has the feel of a nicer corporate chain), but the quality was pretty good and who can deny the pleasure of an all you can eat feast after soaking in the onsen? It was great fun. They have all the regional specialities as well as all the basics of Japanese cuisine and a pleasing dessert section. The onsen was great - outdoors you have a river view, and it's a big space so it doesn't feel crowded. The room was enormous. I'm not sure if we got upgraded, it seems like maybe not? But the pictures did not make clear how big it was - we had a futon space and an additional living room with a tea table and TV. Amazing value considering the quality of the room and onsen, and that breakfast and dinner are included. We stayed midweek at about half the price of other nearby hotels, would return.
Breakfast is so early... last call is 8:30am ! They literally called me to make sure I didn't miss it (nice of them - it's not a small hotel). It's all a bit tightly scheduled, especially if you don't plan to wake up at 6am for your morning soak.

We reserved a deluxe room with a river view and we were not disappointed. The room and view were awesome!! Our room was very large with a separate lounging area from the sleeping area. The couch and beds were very comfortable. We appreciated the spaciousness of the room because it added to the relaxation we wanted. The public onsen was very nice - the open air bath provided exceptional views of the river and the trains in the distance. Our buffet dinner and breakfast, although not exceptional, was good. We enjoyed our hotel and the area very much, and would stay here again.

Beautiful buffet breakfast and dinner. I could have stayed for hours and hours and eaten but I got so full from all the yummy food. The outdoor onsen was one of my favourite activities from our trip to Japan. It was so relaxing and beautiful, would recommend to anyone.
The buffet is the same each night. I think most people only stay 1-2 nights therefore wouldn't be a problem. We stayed 2 nights and the food was the same each time (but luckily it was delicious so we didn't mind). I guess if you were staying for a week, you might feel like something different eventually.

We enjoyed the opportunity to experience a Japanese style bedroom despite it having very solid pillows! The hotel was only a short walk through the village from the main train station and mountain railway. We really enjoyed a trip on the electric train up the gorge. We saw monkeys by the side of the track and also came across a very small snake! The weather was very wet, so we only managed to travel to the open air thermal springs by the riverside, where we then sat in the natural spring and cooled off with the cold river water. Very, very beautiful !! From the hotel, the views of the bridges from large expansive windows with thoughtfully provided large seats were lovely. Free drinks - hot and cold coffee, tea, and juices in this area were good. The staff in the hotel were extremely polite and helpful. The hotel was impeccably clean throughout. We hired a private onsen, which was a lovely experience. The food was amazing with so much choice, freshly cooked or prepared in the dining area. There was lots to choose from. For a family with 2 teenage daughters from Scotland, this was a great opportunity to see how the Japanese enjoy their leisure time and to experience Japan more fully.
There was no way to adjust the room temperature. There were fans with adjustable strengths but we concluded that they actually made the room hotter! I would have liked a little longer in the private onsen. It was a 50 minute slot but we were then asked to bring the key back 15 minutes before the end time so we only had 35 minutes in reality. I'm not sure why.

The room and onsen were good. The meals are buffets rather than set menu, this is my first experience of this in the many onsens that I have visited - but I guess it was done to save manpower.
The daily swap to use only one of the two onsens was confusing. Also the area where the hotel is located is very quiet, except for the tourist train which unfortunately has scaled down operations due to the floods in early 2024.

Easy walk to both train stations. Paid for town view, but got stunning river view. Large (12 tatami mat) room. Toilet separate from sink/bath. Enjoyed first onsen experience. Excellent dinner and breakfast buffets.
Room was warm because we were asked not to open the windows to prevent sink bugs from entering (Windows did not have screens) and room had no air conditioning control, only fan control. Japanese style room means thin futon directly on the floor, which may be uncomfortable for some sleeping styles.

Beautiful public and private Onsen, amazing view from the Rotenburo in the public one. The room was large, well equipped and clean, staff was very friendly. The view from the riverside room, as well as from the lobby were beautiful, we could even watch the Kurobe Gorge Train passing the bridge from our room. There was a variety of free drinks to choose from in the lobby. The dinner and breakfast buffets exceeded our expectations with a huge variety of delicious foods to choose from.
Futon and pillow were thin, making sleeping on the Tatami a bit hard. During dinner buffet, sadly the Tiramisu was perished. Everything else was very tasty though. My main criticism is that during check-in I had to sign a form that included me agreeing to receiving advertisements from 3rd party partners of the Ryokan. My fiancée, who is Japanese, asked about this and was told this is standard and has to be signed by all EU guests, but they wouldn’t send out any advertisements anymore. I find this pretty shady as I’ve stayed in various hotels and Ryokan all across Japan, but have never experienced this before. Highly questionable tactics regarding data privacy!

Buffet dinner & breakfast offer great varieties of food. Fresh & delicious. Rooms are spacious & comfortable. Enjoy the good onsen with stunning views & tranquil environments. Table tennis & karaoke available. Great location, close to all transport & points of attraction. Staffs are helpful & friendly. Value for money. Vacation here far exceeds my expectation and surely I will re-visit this hotel.

Good size public onsen - swapping between female and male morning vs night. Beautiful view of the bridge in the outdoor pool.
It wasn’t clear that half board including dinner was also buffet style. I was expecting kaiseki. But the buffet had a good spread of cuisine . It’s a onsen town without a lot of commercial shops or activities, other than the tram into the valley
