The couple who runs this hostel are absolutely delightful people. The Saturday night dinner that they host had a super friendly and welcoming atmosphere and provided an excellent chance to make some friends in a new city.

There is very little to complain about with this property. It is extremely cheap to stay here and the only staff is a husband and wife who run the place. So don't expect it to be spotless. The building is a little older and well worn than more expensive hotel options. Also my roommates snored a fair bit so consider some earplugs is you stay in a shared dormitory style room.

Tomo and Masa are great hosts. You can feel you are at their house because of their hospitality and at the same time having the freedom to get in and out as it is a hostel/guesthouse. Even the house itself I wouldn't call it hotel or hostel, it's really a house, with typical toilet and bathroom from a house, so you get a very authentic, Japanese experience (this is for you if you don't look for a luxury experience but rather a shared and chill experience). I chose this place because of the reviews about them. I wanted to have a more local approach to my visit in Kumamoto and it felt great. They would ask about my day and say hello and goodbye as family would do anytime we would meet at the entrance. They even tag your bed with your name, which makes it more especial and welcoming! And the room has plenty of space for storage and a locker for each of us. Also, there are common spaces to meet the other guests and a dinner offered by Tomo and Masa every Saturday to meet those who want to join plus some Japanese friends of theirs. I keep this beautiful memory with me! It was my first stop in Kyushu and that was a great start! またありがとう！

The beds can make a bit of noise when you move but that was never a problem, we were still quiet and didn't wake each other up :)

For the most part, I enjoyed my stay at this hostel. It has a well stocked kitchen, clean shower and toilets, has a warm and friendly feeling and you get to meet lots of other travellers. The location is great. Close to the castle and in a quiet neighbourhood. Laundry is only 100 yen, and they have a balcony where your clothes can drip dry (or a dryer if you're in a rush). I love that your towel gets changed daily.

The WiFi was patchy. The kitchen on the first floor and the dorm room I stayed in are only separated by a slide door, rather than a wall. That becomes a problem if someone decides to have a late night phone call.

The staff were great--so friendly and helpful. The price was great for a private room and a parking spot for my car. The location was fairly central. 20-30 minute walk to both downtown and Kumamoto Station. I was a little worried about sharing a single shower with all the other guests, but I never had to wait for it. I had a great stay. I would absolutely stay here again.

I'm nitpicking here. It would have been nice to be even closer to downtown, but the location was still adequate. Also, I was glad I brought my earplugs for sleep, because the sound of other guests chatting in the kitchen down the hall was very clear in my bedroom even with the door closed.

It was a very nice location, quite but very relaxed atmosphere, the hosts were exceptionally welcoming and helpful, the amenities were perfect for my stay, to be fair it was just perfect for me, it was in my opinion really good value and would definitely book again if i had a choice of hostels, thank you

Nothing here made me unhappy, im a very easy going person and cannot find any faults with this Hostel

Warm and friendly towards every guests. Unlike other hostels, as long as you take the initiative, you get to know more about the locals staying in Kumamoto here through their frequent gatherings over the dinner time and they always welcome you. They even organised a takoyaki party for me and taught me how to cook it. Also inviting to join the bamboo shoot harvest! What a real experience that I appreciate so much! Highly recommended! Very kind owners! The private room was quite large and had what you expect! The shared kitchen was also nice! The location of the hostel is around 10-15 minute walk from the bus station and 20 minute walk from the castle. I enjoyed my stay here :) They offer a cheap breakfast, but I didn't use it since I prepared my own in the shared kitchen. Also has 100 yen laundry!

The people in there where awesome. We've been invited 3 or 4 times to eat with them in a supper for the new year. They lifted us to the one piece statues and our next hotel as well with their car, they teached us about japanese culture and they have a great sense of humour ❤️ I would recommend this place to anyone interested in discovering Kumamoto and it's people 😁

The owners are nice. A party was held on the day I stayed, so I was able to enjoy the vibe there. Not sure if they provide beer everyday or just on the party day, but they do have a beer machine and a kitchen just like the ones you can see in an izakaya.

Except the party place, they provide only a small common place on second, which would be not enough for some people.

This place is really welcoming and Tomoko san is a really warm and nice person! They made my stay really comfortable and fun! I made lots of memories and I would love to stay again There was party on Saturday night, everybody had really fun time. The hosts knows how to welcome the guests and they try to help you in everyway! :)

Nothing. It is a fun and actvie guest house. If you want clean and comfortable hotel feeling, maybe this is not the place for you. But if you want to have fun and cozy feeling, this is the place for you :)
