Stayed at Kofukan in March '24. The room had a great view. The public onsen has an outdoor onsen, that was really nice after a steaming hot onsen. They also have private onsen for booking on an hourly basis. Our booking came with breakfast, they serve breakfast early enough for snowboarders to arrive in time for first lift. You can opt for Japanese or western style breakfast. The front of house is also the driver to bring us to the resorts. Be sure to arrive on time, he will really leave on time during evening pick ups. For the snowboarders/skiiers, they have a drying room in the basement for you to leave your gear overnight. They also have discounted lift passes with a few resorts, so do bring more cash with you cos they only take cash payment for these discounted tickets.
The short walk in the cold to get from the main lobby to the onsen building. You can stay indoors by walking through the smoking cave, if you don't mind to smell haha.

I always dreamed to travel like a Japanese in a hot spring town, so I was very happy that my dream came true in Kofugan. I love most was the tatami room with splendid view of the myoko mountain. the hot spring was just as good as I expected.
the location was a little bit far from the train statin myoko if you come by the train. But it seems that the pick up can be arranged. I would suggest to contact the owner and ask them to pick up on advance.

Lovely family run inn that is close to the ski fields. Onsen was heavenly. Breakfasts were filling and delicious. Rooms were spacious for Japan. Drying room was very convenient for wet gear. Staff was super helpful. Manager rescued me and my daughter from the next town over when the train stopped for the night due to snowfall on the tracks. Short walk to the station. Twenty minute walk to the 7/11. Vending machine in lobby. Fridge in room stocked with affordable beer and drinks. Little area by the front desk that sold convenience food.

This Japanese inn has been around for a long time, so I liked the old, traditional furnishings, onsen and buildings, along with the lobby area full of artifacts and quirks. My room was very spacious and warm even during the winter, even though I turned off the kerosene heater before bedtime. The owners speak some English so were helpful in arranging a last-minute dinner (everything in town was closed) and free transport to one of the ski areas. My room had comfortable seating with a great view of the mountains. The inn is located within easy (though uphill) walking distance.
The water in the onsen could have been hotter, but for 150 yen I can't complain too much. The bathroom was a bit worn, but passable.

Staying at Kofukan was such a delightful experience. I think it is the best place to stay in the Myoko region if you want a traditional japanese experience at a good price, with a great onsen on site and a yummy keiseki style breakfast every morning. Masa, the man who worked at the front desk, was an amazing helper and drove me many times to different ski areas-- he even brought me to ski in an abandoned ski area nearby one day which was so cool. Very cool dude!
As a western person, sometimes the Japanese breakfasts were kind of strange for my tastes, but they are happy to modify the breakfast and make it more American/Western if you need them to, just ask. Its a bit far from the ski areas, but there is a shuttle which makes going to ski easy, and the proximity to the train station makes it easy to go further out on day trips. It is a bit hard to get to Akakura at night if you want to go to the nightlife, but there are taxis in Akakura.

A nice Ryokan in Myoko, a little dated but quite comfortable. The rooms are spacious were were a family of 3 adults sharing a room and we all had plenty of room. Trditional futon sleeping, futons were a little thin for our comfort but the doona cover was lovely and warm. The hosts are very friendly people, nothing was too much trouble. There is a public onsen and a private onsen. We booked the private bath and it was wonderful. We had a Japanese breakfast one morning and it was delicious! The staff were exceptionally friendly
Futons were a bit thin, apart from that it was all nice

Very good value overall. Staff speaks good English. Got private bathroom, which is essential for me. Nice japanese breakfast, with variation everyday. Can buy discounted ski pass tickets (around 25% off) for Ikenotaira, Suginohara and Akakura Onsen. Free shuttle to get you to these 3 ski resorts too. Can do pickup at station between 7am and 7pm when you arrive and leave. Onsen bath is very nice and the building is very traditionally. Surprisingly, there are quite a few grocery shops and restaurants within 5 min of walking distance, which was one of my concerns before I arrived.
The temperature of the outdoor Onsen water is not quite hot enough, although the inside one is fine. The restaurants nearby are not always open, especially during weekdays, need to try your luck. If you arrive at Myoko Kogen station after 7pm, then you will have to take taxi to the hotel by yourself for around 800 yen.

We loved our first stay at Kofukan and would return. Nice vibe. Simple but very comfortable. Great staff, fantastic on-site onsen, comfortable Japanese room. Kofukan provided a free shuttle service to nearby skifields, and dropped us off at Myoko Onsen for bus departure when we left. Kofukan is located a short drive away from skifields & town action, its a perfect place to stay if you like the quiet life. Limited dining options in the town but we loved Yamanoie Cafe and there was a well stocked 7-11 store. Dining in options also available at Kofukan.
We liked it all!

Kofukan is very relaxing, traditional ryokan in a quiet and peaceful area of Myoko Kogen. The hosts were very warm and welcoming, and did everything in their power to make my stay enjoyable. They even picked me up from the train station and dropped me back there at the end of my trip. Kofukan has it's own onsen, which has an indoor and outdoor bath. The view from the baths is just breathtaking! The Inn runs a scheduled shuttle bus for access to all the ski resorts and you can purchase lift tickets at the front desk. There is a restaurant on site serving Japanese or Western Breakfast and Dinner. If you would like to go out for dinner, there are several nice restaurants locally. There is also a bus stop around the corner with regular busses to the main hub. I'm looking forward to returning again soon!

Love this place , older style japanese inn. So many cool features . Lots of nooks and crannies to explore. Beautiful Onsen , amazing Japanese breakfast ( which they make small changes to each day of you stay longer ). Great hosts , loads of interesting objects and art. They also have some local products for sale. Its super quiet space , very relaxing. One of my favourite spots ive stayed in japan . Theres also a handful of good restaurants within minutes - walking .
