We have been talking about this, because we would return without hesitation. The welcome is as good as anywhere I have ever stayed – it is small and it has the feel of a family home. Nothing is too much trouble. Everything is done with a smile, and the staff will universally go the extra mile. Our laundry was donedaily, and when the vegetarian asked for a different main course, it was willingly provided. The honesty bar is a pleasure – and whoever chooses the Wine knows what they’re doing. You will enjoy it here.

We liked everything, but there is no disguising the fact that some of it is a little bit old. However, the rooms are astonishingly clean. Everything works – the shower is amazing. The place is just hugely comfortable.

Super friendly and helpful staff. Relaxed and calm surroundings, garden was so peaceful, filtered coffee and Tea was always available. Felt more like a country house, then a hotel, faboulas breakfast, at your pace.. Honesty bar, serve yourself and record what you took. There is also service, but if no one is available, go ahead and serve yourself. Good housekeepings . Highly recommended.. hotel can recommend friendly and efficient taxi service. If no car, very handy!

On the edge of Lilongwe, you probably do need your own trasport or taxi service as previously mentioned

To start with, the staff was wonderful. Friendly and eager to help. The room was large enough to be comfortable, even with 2 large suitcases and 2 large back packs. The food was very good, including the breakfast, which had a buffet for sides like fruit and yogurt, but then made to order eggs, bacon, sausage, toast and beans. The grounds were beautiful and peaceful.

The air-conditioner dripped water and made popping noises, but all mechanical things need maintenance and that is not a reflection on the quality of the lodge. I only mention it so the management can look into the problem.

The check-in and serving staff was kind and hospitable. There was just one white lady who never greeted back on several occasions of greeting her with my kind face. I think she just did like me, anyway I am not money so not everyone would greet me back. Sadly, though, because I was a paying client too.

The brown carpet in the bedroom, but that's the colour of it, not that it was dirty. The cleaning staff was great. Thank you for ironing my shirts for free.

I stayed here 3 times in a month's work throughout Malawi. Burley House thrives because of the incredible staff who work there. By name I can mention Memory, Isaac, Andrew and Ghezanien whose name I have misspelt for sure. Their friendliness, kindness and service are outstanding to the point where you feel almost that you are in an extension of your own home. Room size (King room with garden view) was brilliant for the first 2 stays (Room 1) tho there is no garden view - just a wall - then much smaller and not as advertised for the last stay (Room 9), tho this was made up for with a great bath tub with working hot water, a great relief after weeks on the road. Otherwise the rooms are very fine, beds large and comfortable. Food and drink is excellent (great chef!) tho pricey. Free all-day ground coffee in the lounge is an absolute winner for me! The outside garden area is excellent, for relaxing, working and for meeting colleagues

Internet is somewhat dodgy in the rooms - better in the lounge - and I had to rely on hotspot from my phone to work. Pricing in dollars doesn't really work for me, better to reflect local realities. A kettle and tea-coffee making facilities in the room should be a standard these days, especially in anything over $100 per night

The staff, particularly Issac, were fantastic. This is a small establishment- no swimming pool or fancy restaurants but the service is personalised. It is also an oasis of calm. And they offer free laundry which for weary travellers who travel for long periods of time is a big relief!

For some reason it was noisy at night in my room- as if someone was jumping on my head or the ceiling was going to crash. I suspect it was a restless guest.

The staff were wonderful and worked so hard to make my stay comfortable. Very accommodating, particularly when I requested something a little different for breakfast, and they provided a mifi when the hotel internet wasn’t working for a couple days.

The guest house was comfortable and the garden beautiful but there was an ant problem and the couple times I sat outside on the patio for a little while I got covered in ants. Also, because it is a guest house with a lounge area, a couple nights other guests were up kind of late in the lounge and making enough noise I could hear it in my room. Perhaps having a quiet hours policy would be good.

I write this piece 6 weeks after my visit to Lilongwe and after touring Germany, Bulgaria and Poland. In short, in any of the latter 3 countries I would have had to pay 5 to 6 times more than I did in Lilongwe, if i wanted to enjoy service, space, comfort and peace remotely equivalent to the Burley House experience. Apart from enjoying a comfortable room with good WiFi, international TV (we watched the IPL and ATP tennis), wonderful meals and an incredible garden, what stands out at Burley House is the incredible warmth of the staff. This is not surprising as it is, after all, Malawi.

I really loved the breakfast of Burley House. I liked the continental option and the fact that you can build your own hot breakfast. The quality of the food is excellent. I was blown away with the attention to detail. On the first day they didn't have avocado and we love avocado, but the next day the chef had avocado placed on the side for us. the food is fresh, quality and delicious. The rooms are clean, the location is beautiful and very peaceful. If you want relaxation & peace, this is the place. The team is amazing and a huge Shout Out to Memory, Isaac, Ganizani, Rex in the Kitchen & the amazing housekeeping team!!! The location in the surrounding of Capital Hill as only +- 30 Min Drive away from the Airport.

This was my first visit and the place was just so nice that I have no complaints. What I can highly suggest though is to have smaller tables in the restaurant so that small groups can have their own tables at dinning. Otherwise the experience was amazing.

Amazing staff - every staff member worked to ensure a comfortable stay. They agreed to make me a special meal on the day I checked in, which was a nice touch. The garden is beautiful. Having coffee and tea in the kitchen all day was so convenient. The WiFi mostly worked well.

The carpet in my room was dusty despite the housekeeper’s best efforts to maintain the room, which aggravated my sinuses. I would recommend uninstalling the carpet and maintaining a hard floor which is easier to clean given the dust in Lilongwe.
