location, location and location!

Location, ambience, cleanliness.

Washroom and sound proofing can be better.

- The staff are nice and warm. - There is a cafe on the 1st floor where guests can rest and sit to eat or read. It's quite relaxing. - The location is good as it's in the city center and basically you can walk to any tourist attractions within 10 mins.

- there is not so much soundproof stuff, which means you might hear people talking on the street, other guests playing music in the next room, people talking downstairs...Etc - shower and toilet are outside of the house. It might be a bit inconvenient if it's raining outside.

A clasical and clean penang style room&house.it was a nice experience to stay this kind of house. The staff and owner was very kind people, thanks to them 🤗

We had a nice stay at MoonTree. The accomodation is truly something special and we loved the spacious room and garden. The location is great and you’re right in the centre of everything. Kent is a lovely host and gave us the best tips where to eat and what to visit.

Since it is a very old building the walls are very thin and it is is not completely closed off which means you can hear everything from the other rooms and there is a lack of privacy. It is fine for a few days, but after spending a week it was getting annoying. I would definitely recommend bringing some earplugs. The bathroom could be cleaned better.

This is my second stay at Moon Tree this year. Have always enjoyed the vibe. The room is value for money and brings one back to the 50s/60s. It's nostalgic. The staff, Nur and owner Kent are very friendly. Always enjoyed striking up a conversation with Kent who is very hospitable and an excellent host. He has a wealth of information on Penang. It was nice to be back at Moon Tree. 👍👍👍👍👍

Amazing heritage house with lots of character and lush vegetation just steps from Love Lane, Chulia Street and loads of restaurants. If you are an easygoing type who can appreciate a quaint home stay feel and the unique character of a heritage house and are not put off by sharing a somewhat rustic shower and toilet with other guests, you’ll love it.

A little more upkeep here and there would make this place much more comfortable

Kent, the owner was super nice. I see him hands on dealing with managing the mosquitoes every evening. He allowed me to store my luggage after checkout. I returned at 6pm and also took a refreshing shower. Thanks Kent!

No clothes drying area

I loved the experience of staying at the MoonTree. It was definitely special. I felt that I was back in time. I'm a lover of vintage so I loved the decoration and the stairs to the upper floor. It gave a mystical sense. The location was great right next to all the restaurants and cafes but far enough from the noise.

Many mosquitos...

The best part about this hostel is the host. Kent is a very warm and open person. Easy to talk to and full of helpful advice. He made us feel welcome and at home. The second best thing is the place itself. Full of memorabilia of olden days and plants and fish and flowers. It is a quiet and serene place to rest. A true hidden gem in an ever changing George Town. And of course Mr. Blacky, local cat and boss/guardian.

Some nights the music from the nearby bars was very loud and you could hear it til around midnight. In addition the upper room walls are thin and open under the roof, so the noise from one room is heard in the other rooms as well. But none of the abovementioned things did not keep us up for long. If you are a light sleeper, earplugs are recommended.
