Beautiful rooms, comfortable beds, lovely food prepared by Chef Reese.

Partial lake view rooms on 2nd level balcony all over look hotel next door literally 2ft away and almost attached to property. Babies screaming, load music and has large florescent lights affecting views. Complete blindsided by this and unsightly. Not sure why no one else mentioned this in there reviews and not reflected on website photos. Attached photos. Also major issues with tour they booked me on… long story, lost 5 hrs waiting for boat and had to sit on the floor. Made the best of it but hotel needs to follow up with vendors and make sure clients are picked up it they’re making the arrangements. Odd setup for meals to accommodate all guests.

Just stunning - an absolute gem just on the outskirts of Bacalar town. Gorgeous place, attentive staff, a haven for relaxation. Be sure to be driving / take a taxi if you want to go to town, however not problematic at all. Room service has no surcharge, which really encourages you to use it - and the dishes are delicious. Picturesque.

No property owned kayaks / paddle boards but they rely on an external provider. Paid full fee for 2 boards, out of which one was leeking and one paddle also broken. We asked about this immediately but never heard back / got discounted.

We came here for our honeymoon and had the most amazing time. Our room was upgraded to the water suite so we had the most amazing view of the lake and spent so much time at the room admiring the view. The service is A+ and they have a whatsapp number to text with any enquires or food service, super reliable. The food was delicious and one night we had dinner alone by the water and had our steak cooked in front of us - just wow. It’s a short taxi ride into town and they will arrange the taxi for you so it was no trouble. If I’m ever lucky enough to visit this beautiful place again I will be staying at this hotel!! Thank you guys so much for making our stay so memorable.

Beautiful property right on the lake with tasteful design and two pool areas. You can jump from the pier into the lake and have dinner on the waterfront. We loved our Lakeview room and had breakfast on the terrace each morning. The food was incredible and our highlight! Each meal was a theatrical experience and the staff go above and beyond. We loved that the steak is cooked right in front of you on a hot salt slab.

Not all the staff spoke English but I don’t think you could expect this from a small town - we got by with google translate just fine. The cocktails were quite sugary for our taste.

The service is exceptional. All the staff made me feel like I was at home. It’s a small hotel where they keep an eye on you and your needs. The staff always have a smile and do their best to make your stay comfortable. It was January 6th and they made a rosca de Reyes as a courtesy for the guest. The hotel is beautiful and the food is also excellent. We took a tour by the lake and they boat picked up us at the hotel’s dock. I have travelled the world and yet, this has been the best service I ever got. I highly recommend a stay here.

The air conditioner was next to the bed so it was hard to sleep with the air on the whole night.

This property is stunning. We spent 5 nights there for our “babymoon”and it was the perfect choice. It’s only 15 rooms and feels very cozy and elegant. I had high expectations based on the reviews but they definitely exceeded them. One thing I didn’t expect was the food was exceptional. We ate almost every meal there because there isn’t much around the property that’s easy to get to. You can go to the town by taxi but it’s about the same price for food and not many options. The hotel also booked us massages and a boat tour, both of which were great. Would stay again. We had such a nice, relaxing stay.

The location is unbeatable, with breathtaking lagoon views that create a serene and magical atmosphere. The rooms are thoughtfully designed, and the bath is absolutely amazing—perfect for unwinding. The food here is exceptional—easily one of the highlights of the stay! Everything is made with fresh, local ingredients, and the flavors are incredible. The tequila-flambéed steak was especially outstanding—a must-try! It offers a fantastic mix of luxury, tranquility, and unforgettable dining. Highly recommend it for anyone visiting Bacalar!

The beds are on the smaller side, which might not be ideal for everyone. The staff is warm and welcoming, though not all speak English, which led to a few miscommunications. Also, you’re required to sign off on the bill after every meal, which can interrupt the relaxed vibe. I’d recommend switching this to checkout for a smoother experience.

We absolutely loved our stay at Puerta del Cielo! We arrived to Puerta del Cielo after staying for two weeks in a five diamond resort in Riviera Maya, but we didn't miss the resort at all. Puerta del Cielo is a small boutique hotel that has everything a five diamond hotel has to offer, but with the level of service only a small boutique hotel can offer. We loved the little details, from the most delicious welcome drink to an intimate dinner right next to the lagoon. We also absolutely adored the food, the cooking is excellent. Would go again in a heartbeat.

Beautifully designed hotel. Lots of greenery with amazing pool area, deck and pontoon. Staff are super responsive in person and over WhatsApp helping organise taxis, tours, drinks. Room was spacious with bath and hammock on terrace.

Few areas of improvement - pillows were poor quality and aircon was very rattly and ineffective. Would expect better. The view from our room - while you could see the lagoon it was mainly of the hotel next door which is a bit of an eyesore with bright floodlights that shone all night. Would have expected some breakfast included in the price!

loved everything about this place, they made our honeymoon extra special. incredible food, service and design. this was our top hotel in Mexico and we can’t wait to come back one day in the future! the hotel is immaculately clean. our room with partial lagoon view was incredible, with an outside bathtub. the lagoon view is a must! food is amazing

portion sizes were huge - only thing to be wary of as we over ordered several times. hotel staff could possibly be trained to explain portion size. this is me really trying to think of a negative, and am aware some people love huge portions.
