The Boutique Hotel De Doelen is a classic townhouse in the middle of the Grote Markt in Groningen. In the old house, which is in a well-kept condition, you can explore the center of Groningen directly. From here you have everything in the immediate vicinity within a short walking distance. The breakfast was excellent and was completely sufficient in all respects and we really enjoyed it! Right next to the hotel is the well-known cafe/restaurant/bar De Drie Gezusters, Groningen. This is also part of the hotel, very practical when things get more entertaining If we come to Groningen, we would love to come back here!

Excellent center-of-town location, very friendly accommodating staff - will stay at hotel again if given the opportunity. Little things made the difference - friendly reception and staff, clean room (with welcoming note), complimentary drinks, access to coffee and tea, a warm fireplace (even in July!) and frankly good value for money, meant we had a very pleasant stay.

Overall, the hotel might look a bit "dated"; however, we rather experienced it as cosy & comfortable and the staff's positive attitude more than made up for any detracting aspects.

The staff were very welcoming and friendly, the beautiful sitting room with the wonderful breakfast and ability to order drinks or food in such a warm and beautiful surrounding with a view of the Martinitoren. The location was amazing. Bathroom was very large and functional. Beds were simple but comfortable. Hallways were elegant and well decorated. Sitting room was a special place, like a library with books and a beautiful fire in the fireplace.

We could only see an interior work yard from our window, but we didn't spend time in our room

I was very impressed with the staff working that day. The initial room was not up to standards and the 2nd room wasn't clean. The 3rd and final room was better as the facilities made up for some mishaps. A nice upgrade in the end. I sadly have forgotten the name of the lady at the reception but she took great care of me. She really saved the day and made my stay pleasant in the end despite a rough start. If it weren't for her efforts to accommodate me the tone of this review would have been significantly less merciful. Great customer service! The location is superb and the building and interior were interesting. I would consider visiting again.

I didn't like that my initial room wasn't clean. A bit of a letdown after traveling hours. Only to find out that the bathroom isn't cleaned properly. As well as finding out that some gunk from a previous visitor was in the bathroom. I have pictures of it but I'll spare the details. A more thorough cleaning and treatment of fungus in bathroom is advisable. Other than that everything was perfect.

Beautiful hotel, in an excellent location, and very friendly, and helpful staff.

Unfortunately, there was mold in the bathroom, as the fan did not work. What did work, though, was the AC of the neighboring building right outside the window and the noise was sometimes very irritating. (I guess there is nothing you can do about it except for wearing earplugs.) Quite unfortunate is also placing the bed right in front of the window, so you can't open it more than like 15 centimeters and ventilate the room.

Old charm hotel with fantastic location on the Groote Markt Square. Friendly staff with easy online check-in and out. Received welcoming dring vouchers at Twee Gezuiters which was a lovely gesture., Comfortable bed with a very spacious room and bathroom. Only slither of Groote Mark View but then we were not here for the view. Lovely reception area / restaurant with cozy fireplace. Internet was very slow during peak hours and used my own data.

What did I not like? Staff is very welcoming and friendly. The building is just amazing with a lot of original features, the room was a good size for a single, and also had a spacious bathroom. It's perfectly located on the Grote Markt with lots of restaurants and all the sights and shops nearby. Comfy bed. Great shower (and also a bath). Good breakfast with lots of options. And all of this for a really good price.

It was a little bit warm in the room, and the window didn't open. But nonetheless I slept really well. And they said they have plans to install A/C next year. So it won't be a problem any more then.

The front desk staff was super helpful – top notch. The hotel is nicely decorated and eerily beautiful (in a good way), feels like you are going back in time. The location is right at the heart of Groningen, yet the room is very silent and pleasurable, and they supplied the room with quality amenities. Would love to come back here again someday soon!

Would've been better if they had an easier access so that those who brought many luggage could bring them easier..

We really liked the home from home atmosphere created by this hotel - the wonderful study, the complementary supply of tea, coffee, iced water. The room was very comfortable, and the bathroom particularly well appointed with lovely toiletries and magnificent shower. The welcome from staff on arrival was most appreciated, as was the cheerful attitude of all staff members we encountered. Together with an excellent breakfast, what's not to like?

There wasn't anything we didn't like.

The room was comfortable and the mattresses on the beds were great. Breakfast ended earlier than we expected but they brought a plate for my son, yogurt with fresh fruit and a croissant - all very good! The location is great for exploring on foot around the historic center.

The hotel is in a pedestrian area and we were told we could drive up to the hotel to unload our car but were not given instructions on which street to use so we ended up on the wrong side. We gave up and parked in an underground lot and left our luggage in the car.
