The location is great, it is a really weird feeling to get 'lock-up' voluntarily but it was a good place to stay in Leeuwarden. Very conveniently located to bus lines, the center, and restaurants. The toilets and showers were very clean and nice hot showers.

The breakfast was a bit disappointing for the price you need to pay. The rooms are fine but quite hot. There are no screens so if you open the windows, all the bugs and mosquitoes get inside. It would be nice to have at least a fan or better protection from the sun/outside heat.

It was one of a kind experience to stay in a former prison. Moreover, the building has been restored in a very nice way, meaning that it felt warm and inviting despite its initial function. The room was clean, the mattress and the pillow were comfortable, the shower was good, the curtains were thick (read: no disturbing light), and the neighbourhood was quiet, with all kinds of facilities at walking distance.

The window could be opened only by climbing onto the bed, there was not enough light in the room, and there was some noise coming from the bathroom (the boiler?). As I sleep with earplugs, I was not really bothered by it, but that could be an issue for people who do not use earplugs. In addition, because of the specific architecture of the building, I could hear people talking in the 'hallways'.

The location was amazing! The blockhouse is such a historic site, and it was neat to see the way it is currently being used. The staff was beyond excellent. So friendly and helpful! They happily storied our luggage when we arrived before check in, and they stored it again after check out so we could see more sites in the city without lugging it around. The place is clean and surprisingly cozy for being a converted jail. I would highly recommend to anyone staying in Leeuwarden!

The only thing that I didn't like were the mattresses. They were highly uncomfortable.

Very good location, comfortable room for solo and for groups, possible to prepare the food by yourself (highly recommend) or pay for the hostel offered breakfast (I tried once). Good place where to stay for students during their 2 weeks project. Electronic room key and in the evening outdoor too.

First time little bit confused because main gate was closed and possible enter in the hostel territory from the side street.

I booked a room at Alibi's for my mother. She is usually picky but she ended up being very happy with her room. She took a lot of pictures and was amused by the setting. The room was warm, the toilet clean and the bed comfortable. Me and my partner had breakfast with her and enjoyed a good coffe together. Breakfast was good, there was a bit of everything, not too much but not too little. Overall I would recommend the place and will most likely book for her again here. Mother thought the staff was kind and friendly.

Mother said the sink had no warm water, but that could have been a temporary issue or simply done by design. It wasn't really a big deal.

They sell a certain feeling during your stay. The former style of the original jail was renovated, renewed and formed in a building that combines actual hostel-comfort with the older times of crime, murder and punishment. The doors, floors and the construction of Block H is like in 1847 when the prision was built. Closed in 2007, well done. We had an unforgetable and a pleasant stay with our kids.

I missed Nicolas Cage and Sean Connery fighting eachother while escaping from Alcatraz. 😉

Located in a historic prison complex, they had an exhibit on the ground level explaining the history of the complex and how it worked.There were restaurants and a cafe close by. Cool little shops as well. Lift is handy if you're coming with heavy bags or suitcases. The room and bathroom was big enough. It was super clean. The beds were comfortable. They kept little features of the jail cell like the switches and the button to open the cell door with which was a nice touch. The staff were efficient and friendly with checking us in and out. They also gave good tips on places to see and where to eat.

A great quirky hostel in a former gaol complex (the hostel is only one small part so needs a bit of finding). Very clean, simple rooms, newly refurbished with well designed shared areas and clean shower area. Despite that it still retains the feel of a former gaol - great conversation piece. Staff very friendly and accomodating. On the edge of the town centre. Good value.

Unfortunatley there wasn't secure bike parking on site but there was a secure bike park facility fairly near by. Don't know if the hostel would entretain people bringing their bikes into their rooms - there is space.

We were looking for a lodging with a small kitchenette whenever I found the Alibi Hostel. As a couple in your 40s, we didn't know how well we'd be received at a hostel, but the stuff didn't blink an eye. The double room was perfect for us. The staff was very accommodating with providing us with a fan and one of the double rooms without bunk beds. The kitchen was well equipped. Two refrigerators for sharing. The mattresses were more comfortable than I would have expected. The bathrooms are kept quite clean with the shower and toilet facilities separate. Pleased that they provided linens and towels. The only small issue we had was that Wi-Fi went in and out late at night, likely when most people were using it. Regardless, would recommend. The building is very unique.

It is simple but clean and comfortable and ironically quite charming for an old prison. The location was great and the staff friendly and helpful. The Wifi worked great, although you get kick off the network regularly.

The doors lock automatically and I was a a bit terrified that I would forget my key if I needed to go to the shared bathroom in the middle of the night and be locked out with no staff to help.
