Somersal was an excellent choice and our stay was wonderful. Secure on site parking, beautiful gardens, a large and comfortable bedroom en suite, with easy access, and the quiet solitude, all enabled us to have really good sleep after a long international flight. Our hosts, Jenny and John, were delightful and informative without intruding upon our privacy, a balance which very few establishments get right! Freshly prepared breakfasts consisting of fresh fruit juice, fruit, cereals and a hearty cooked breakfast together with really good filter coffee were a delight to experience each morning! Highly recommended and we would certainly return again if ever in that part of New Zealand

Charming surroundings and delightful hosts.

It was a little hard to find the driveway leading to the cottage, but we arrived after dark and this is a rural area with some houses tucked away from the road. Also, the owners do warn everyone ahead of time that they only accept cash for payment. Due to some computer issues they could not send us such a reminder so we came unprepared and had to drive into town 10-15 mins away to get to an ATM. This wasn’t the owners fault and it wasn’t a big deal to make that trip, but Booking.com certainly doesn’t make it easy to find this information. So this is mostly a reminder to fellow travelers :) Otherwise, again, we had a great experience and wished we could spend more time chatting with the delightful couple that runs this B&B.

The location is absolutely stunning. The hosts are very welcoming but not intrusive and the continental breakfast we chose had lots of choice with yoghurt, cereals, home made rhubarb, mixed fruits, toast with many spread options. We could've ordered the hot option which I'm sure would've been marvelous as well.The wifi worked really well. The bedrooms had nice firm beds with electric blankets and welcoming muffins. The ensuite bathrooms were lovely and new. The rooms were individual rooms which felt like we were home. Lovely quiet place.

Beautiful setting, quiet with just the sounds of birds. Our room was at the end of the house with own entrance so private and calm. Jenny welcomed us and had made muffins 😀 breakfast with John and Jenny was generous with so much choice and great conversation, local knowledge of what goes on in the area impressed us to return when we had more time to explore. And the bed is sooo comfy 🤗

The facilities (room, access to a fridge, parking) were excellent. The setting (gardens, adjacent mountains, lambs) was exquisite. The owners provided a delicious full breakfast and told us about the local area (including dinner recommendations

The hosts were very nice and provided great breakfast as well! The garden and the views were exquisite!

The bathroom was not private and the sink, the shower and the wc were each a different room. However, it was noted in the description that it has a shared bathroom.

Location convenient for Hobbiton, Waikomo Caves and Hamilton, but rather suburban. Our room had large windows, but onto parking area. We were surprised that there were no locks on bedroom door.

Breakfast was delightful with a variety of food. The grounds far exceeded expectations, and we were free to roam the property, enjoy the gardens, and see the animals. Jenny and John were absolutely wonderful hosts!

Beautiful, well maintained property. The breakfast was excellent and the owners were very friendly.

The only thing we would have liked that was not supplied was a small fridge for milk etc. but we may have been able to use the hosts fridge, but it was not a problem.

Great location for walking and visit to Waitamo Caves which are a must do. Very friendly, lovely breakfasts, fresh and tasty. WiFi a bit intermittent but it is a very rural location so not an issue unless you are reliant on it.

Nothing, except the weather could have been less wet, but we will blame Cyclone Hale for that, not our hosts!
