Really great and comfortable stay. The unit is spacious with separate living room / kitchenette, bedroom, and bathroom. Shower water pressure was perfect, ductless split unit regulated the temperature well. Lovely views of the lake. All the units seemed fully booked, but could not hear neighbors at all. Good location to many different attractions - less than ten min drive to Turangi with lots of eateries, 40min to Taupō with lots of activities, and 25min to the Ketani car park to start the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.

Wonderful cottage right at the lake. Modern bathroom and comfortable beds. Well equipped kitchen. Big bonus is the provided BBQ. Next town with a big supermarket is only 8 minutes by car. There you find also a few restaurants (reservation is recommend). Restaurant right next to the cottage is closed at the moment, but that’s alright. Some people said it’s hard to find, but if you are ok driving a little off the main road, and you can read signs you will definitely find it 😉

Braxmere Lodge is located on the south shore of beautiful Lake Taupo, right the waters edge. It is an hours drive from Taupo, 10 minutes from nearest shops and restaurants in Turangi. So it a gorgeous and isolated setting. The unit was spacious and tidy and newly renovated. The king sized bed was very comfortable. There was a microwave, large fridge, and good range of basic tea and coffee making options. Look at the view from outside the lounge in our unit in the photograph below.

There used to be a restaurant at Braxmere Lodge, but it has been closed for some time, and there looks to be no prospect of it opening any time soon. So you need to bring some of your own supplies unless you want to drive from the Lodge for all meals. The access road off SH41 is at a difficult corner with limited visibility.

It was very easy to access the room and get unpacked. The view was great and the bed was very comfortable. Be aware that there are a few restaurants and a gas station about 10 minutes away but overall there is not too much close to this location. If you want to be 'off the grid', this is your location.

There was a strong odor from the bathroom within our room. I believe it was coming from the sink and it was very noticeable when you walk in the door. That would be my only criticism of the location.

The location was great with an amazing view of the lake and just what my wife and I needed on our honeymoon. It was great as a jumping off point to visit the surrounding areas like Lake Taupo itself and Tongariro National Park as we visited various Lord of the Rings filming locations surrounding and on the volcanoes. The room was clean and very spacious, with one of the largest bathrooms in our three week's staying all across New Zealand.

Don't leave the windows open or your room may get filled with blood sucking flies.

A bit isolated, but that maybe its charm. Nice view of lake. Spacious unit with skeleton kitchen. The on-site restaurant is functioning but currently only open on weekends. Close to thermal baths, but only private pools are open - which suited us fine.

The facilities are a bit tired and may need a refresh. There are no staff around at anytime if you have any questions.

Such a peaceful place to stay and enjoyed walking the little beach in the morning, despite the rain.

The shower wasn't clean, black mould growing around the fittings on the wall and in the plastic strip on bottom of shower. Didn't affect me having a shower though, just thought I should mention it. Wifi was OK, very patchy, but coming from rural myself I know this is something that may not be able to be fixed, but was nice to switch off the technology because of this and take in the scenery instead.

Location is wonderful. Kids loved playing on the lawn & throwing stones from the beach. Rooms were warm, spacious and very well equipped. Showers were great. Best spot in the local area - mountain about 40 min easy drive.Overall a great stay.

The restaurant was closed and since we were 4 families travelling together, we would have loved using that space to lounge together indoors as it was raining most of our stay. The Beds were a bit on the hard, but sleeper couches were pretty good.

The apartment was beautifully clean and well equipped. There's across the lake is stunning. The apartment is ideally located for the Tongariro Crossing, with the shuttle car park only a 25 min drive away.

The parking space by the apartment was very small and difficult for an average sized car (Rav4). However there is a car park which can ve used.

We loved the setting of the room, on the nice lake. The area was so quiet, that was also a special treat. The cooking facilities in the room were very good and handy. Housekeeping staff was very helpful.

It was a bit awkward to get our lock box key code via Booking.com messaging to enable us to enter the room. We didn't have working internet on our phones, but lucky the motel staff messaged us the key code the day before our arrival.
