The location was perfect right on the riverfront and in the center of many shops and restaurants. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. Enjoyed the small balcony. The breakfast was good with many choices. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

The room was very small and the bathroom tiny. Having a shower was a challenge as the shower was very small and could hardly move around. There was no safe in the room.

Location location location! If you are looking for a traditional guest house in the most central and perfect location in Tavira, Residencial Mares is the place for you. It overlooks the canal and has the most amazing restaurants surrounding it (do your research). Rooms are basic, but with this in mind, everything else is very good. Front facing rooms over the canal have a pretty view but can be a little noisy. Quiet rooms at the back I found were better, with an all day sun terrace overlooking rooftops. Noise does travel through the rooms due to the (beautiful) traditional terracotta tiles (and specially if you have noisy inconsiderate guests in the room next door). Breakfast was adequate, quite substantial, fresh and pretty much everything you need for a basic breakfast with good ingredients. If traditional and authentic is what you are looking for, then this is the place to stay in Tavira. If, however Hotel standards (a little more sterile in my opinion) is what you are looking after, then look at Hotels. Maria, the Guest House Manager runs the establishment perfectly. Book early if you want a good deal.

Liked everything, see cooments above.

For Tavira, it is a good accomodation located in premium location. Everything in the room was solid, in good functioning order. For a vacationer, it is missing the charm. It is practical, clean, but it is like a dormitory, accomplishing its task. The rooftop terrace added what the rooms were missing. The breakfast was a huge bonus, a good coffee and perfect atmosphere music. Food was decent and more than enough. This way we discovered the restaurant and the food quality it offered for lunch and dinner. One of the most recommended in the area. Altogether we would highly recommend Mares Residence.

Rooms were too austere, on the small size. Portuguese style and size rooms I guess.

Fantastic location. Great value with good breakfast. Big room. Very comfy big bed. Right on the river. Easy walk from bus station. Very quiet.great place to relax for a few days after spending time in bigger cities. Easy and cheap ferry ride to the beach. Great eateries Very near. Great roof terrace with fabulous view. Everything in Tavira is walkable and easy regional train to more lively places like Faro only 40 mins.

Nothing although the walls are a bit thin between the rooms. The accommodation was terrific Tavira has quite alot of retired English people. Nothing wrong with that but a bit sleepy if you're looking for more of a lively vibe. We were there in early January so might be better in the summer.

Very nice small hotel, with a good location close to the dock where the ferries go to the island beach. Loved the town of Tavira, so charming, nice walks along the river. Rooms are maybe a little dated but immaculately cleaned. Breakfast was great with good options, outside seating available. Hotel has a restaurant, open for dinner, and it was popular.

Wonderful, friendly staff, who went out of their way to be kind and helpful (Paolo and Deetsia (not sure of the spelling, sorry) in particular, made my stay special. The location, right on the river, is great, with lots of shops, bars and music nearby. The roof terrace is lovely, though the photos show loungers when in fact there are chairs, couches and tables. Lovely fluffy towels, great air-conditioning and a good buffet breakfast!

The room was quite small.....adequate for a solo traveller and a short stay. The description included a kettle, which I got when I asked for it, but there were no cups. I like an early morning coffee.......

Breakfast was great. Continental style with some pastries. The rooftop terrace was also really nice. We went up in the evening and were the only ones there. There was music on the street outside at that time which was nice to listen to. Also some good restaurants right below and a short walk to the main center and old town. The boat that takes you to the beach also leaves from right out front of the hotel. Costs 2.50 per person round trip and is a nice big beach. There's also free parking right around the corner.

Didn't have amazing soundproofing and was little dirty. Had to wipe our feet off before getting in bed. The AC also didn't seem to work the best.

This is hotel fare exceeded our expectations . The location is superb , right by the Ferry to the island . The bedroom whilst not huge was a good size , with a kettle, fridge , it was spotlessly clean and the towels were bath sheets ( very rare) . The breakfast was more than plentiful, fresh fruit , cereal, yoghurts , pastries and a hot selection of scrambled egg and bacon . I am really not sure what people are expecting for the price you pay . The staff were polite and helpful, a special mention for Pedro who advised us on where to go , restaurants etc

I am guessing for some people with mobility problems there is no lift .
