Convenient location for transport, very very clean. Helpful kind staff. Sleeping areas very comfortable excellent lock boxes for storing things. Immaculately clean. All guests kept the place tidy but staff would come through regularly to give it an extra wipe down etc.

I wasnt aware from pictures quite how small the hostel was. Very small kitchen area that isnt available 11pm to 7pm and no separate lounge. Only one toilet and shower per gender. Roof top area could do with some furniture or something to make it an appealing place to sit.

HIVE is an inexpensive but clean, quiet and comfortable guesthouse a short walk from Ishigaki port. The entrance to the accomodation, a little tricky to find for first time visitors, can be found up a few flights of steps at the end of an alleyway - but don't be put off by this!! :) Staff are very helpful and friendly, and all the usual shared facilities you would expect are well maintained and very clean. For those seeking a budget / backpackers option in the heart of Ishigaki, HIVE is well worth a look.

The location close to the port was great and easy to get to local islands as well as the airport via bus. There are lots of restaurants and bars in the neighbourhood. The hostels shared facilities are clean and the showers are lovely and hot. Each bed comes with a fan which was very nice to use! There are lots of recommendations of what to do around the island either from staff or from signs and maps around the hostel.

Access to the hostel is via a dark alley which is not clean and is quite smelly. At night kitchen staff from local restaurants block access to the windy staircase leading to the entrance. However, once inside it is fine! You get what you pay for!

Nice pods and pretty comfy. All amenities were very clean. The common area has a good kitchen where you can cook. Location is great. Kumi is very friendly!

The common room is more cluttered than what it looks in the pictures (not an issue but seeing what it’s presented here sets an expectation). The common room can we used until 11pm which I truly understand since there can be noisy and inconsiderate guests once a while and the guesthouse is pretty small - pods, common area + reception are pretty close to each other. Cleaning starts early (expect to be awake by 9:30 with vacuum everyday). But honestly, those are not a big issue and I would definitely stay again :)

The guesthouse is 5 minutes from the bus station and 7 minutes from the ferry terminal. It is really central. You can get anywhere from the bus station. the staff very friendly. The guests chat and laugh together in the kitchen. You quickly come into contact with other guests and are out and about together in the evenings. The guesthouse itself is an attraction. If you're traveling alone and looking for a connection, I can only recommend HIVE.

They have just 2 shower. If you get up early, you can usually take a shower without waiting.

It is really well maintained with lots of effort put to make guests comfortable. Plenty of free stuff in the kitchen, nice and clean bathroom, bicycles/snorkelling kit to rent for very cheap!!! I booked a female dorm and best decision ever, it's enclosed and then you get your own little cabin which provides nice privacy. The staff is super lovely and willing to help you, with great recs for activities/food. Thanks guys!

I stayed there for a week remotely working and I had a really great time! First the location of the guest house is the most convenient, located close from buses and ferry terminal and also next to a lot of restaurants and bars. The common spaces were always clean, we had enough space for everyone and the nice kitchen space is the best place to meet up with and spend time with the other travelers. The rooftop was also a really nice place to hang out by day and by night to watch the stars. The staff were the bests, always willing to give you advices about restaurant, places to visit and to make your stay memorable. Finally, the bed space was large enough to feel at home.

The only bad point is the first floor of the building before taking the stairs to reach the guesthouse front door. There must be a restaurant that throw used oils somewhere next to it and the smell isn’t lovely.

Cozy little wooden pods for sleeping. I was worried it would be too stuffy, but it wasn't, and they provide a little fan, too. Staff (Kumi) was friendly and helpful. Kitchen/common area is large, bright, and clean with books and games.

I didn't mind the climb to the third floor, but it is something to be aware of. I was pleasantly surprised that there was coin laundry, but if you don't read Japanese, you may need someone to help you. My clothes (all quick-drying fabrics) were still wet after the 50-minute cycle so I must have been doing something wrong. (And it was rainy, so the rooftop wasn't an option.) Only 1 shower/toilet each for men/women. Luckily it wasn't busy when I was there but I imagine in the high season it's another story.

The hostel is very close to the port. There’s a nice shared space to sit. When I was in ishigaki, the weather wasn’t that great. They made small books with suggestions of things you can do on rainy days, which was very nice!

I stayed at a female dorm, so that is a little bit more secluded from the rest, but the other dorm is also the pass through for going to the kitchen en outside. Especially in the morning, people can be quite loud.

At first glance, the neighborhood might seem intimidating, but don't be swayed by first impressions. Once you cross the threshold into Ishigaki Guesthouse Hive, located on the third floor of a building, you are transported into a completely different world. The hostel may be small in size, but it is big in heart. The space is well organized and cleanliness is top-notch, going beyond expectations. The bathroom is noteworthy, always clean, fragrant, and the shower water pressure is just perfect. Plus, all necessary amenities are provided. The kitchen is another highlight, well-equipped and organized, ideal for preparing your meals during your stay. However, the real standout was the hospitality of the staff. I was treated incredibly well by everyone, and the manager, Shingo, went above and beyond by introducing me to downtown Ishigaki and its locals. The staff member, Chinami, was equally exceptional, taking me out to the local bars and helping make lasting friends on the island. Before my visit, I viewed Ishigaki primarily as a natural paradise with outdoor activities, but soon realized that the island also boasts a vibrant nightlife with underground bars and clubs. I highly recommend Ishigaki and the Ishigaki Guesthouse Hive to young backpackers and adventurers seeking an authentic and enjoyable experience. Compared to my previous stay in Naha, Ishigaki outshines it in every aspect. I will definitely return to Ishigaki, there is so much more to explore and many friends I hope to see again. Until next time, Ishigaki!

The hostel is located in the heart of Ishigaki, may initially catch you off-guard due to its location in a seemingly disorderly neighborhood. On approach, the area can seem daunting, which might deter some potential visitors.
