We usually use a different hotel when in Russell, however this year due to lack of availability we used The Commodores Lodge for the first time. The Commodores Lodge is very central in Russell with bars and restaurants nearby. We were very impressed with the room and the facilities, the room was very clean with good facilities. Rowena was very helpful and went out of her way to help us. The pool in the courtyard looked very inviting, though we didn't use it.

Our room backed onto the Duke of Marlborough bar/hotel, there was a loud extractor fan or compressor that seemed to be running 24/7. This might be a nuisance to many people, however we live in west London near to Heathrow Airport, the M4, M3 and M25 motorways and are therefore used to 24/7 background noise so we weren't too bothered by it.

It’s just such a lovely property. We’ve stayed here several times over the years. The rooms are very clean, in good condition, and spacious. I love the pool and spa. And of course walking out either entrance onto the main township or the seaside restaurant quarter is amazing. I also love the jog or walk over to the sandy beach and up the hill to the Flagstaff for the lush bush and then panoramic views. The staff are so pleasant and helpful - they go above and beyond for their customers.

Great location right on Russell waterfront. There are picnic tables reserved for Lodge residents just above the beach with a fabulous view. We enjoyed eating a picnic dinner out there one evening. Simply fabulous. While there is a pool we didn't use it as the Lodge is only a few steps away from the beach and preferred to swim in the sea. We did warm up in the spa pool after one swim which was very nice. Well appointed kitchen to do breakfast, lunch and simple dinners. The hostess was very helpful with all our requests.

Ohh it is hard to find too much wrong. Being picky the second bedroom in our unit is dark as it has a very small window so not much natural light. I can't think of anything else but have to write more to fill out this form!

We had a wonderful stay over the NY period. Our room was perfectly located for the afternoon sun (room 11) and despite the heavy wind that swept through Russell, we were lucky to be so sheltered from it while relaxing pool side most of the time. Convenient to all restaurants, shops and a well stoked four square. Rooms were very clean and equipped with everything. We look forward to coming back.

Location was perfect - in the heart of Russell with a view over the jetty and bay. The little covered seating area, equipped with outdoor furniture was a great place to unwind and watch the sunset over Paihia. Bentley and Porsche, the local felines, called by each evening to say hello and were delightful. Pool, spa pool and laundry were some of the amenities on offer. We extended our stay by an extra night - three in total. Would recommend and definitely would stay again.

Liked the position in the heart of Russell. Outside our room had loads of cobwebs and dead spiders. Bed was comfortable and bathroom supplies much appreciated. Rowers was incredibly helpful. Cat visitor was a bonus

Didn't like that the spa was out of action and we hadn't been told as that was a major drawcard. Also there was an issue with booking.com as it didn't show we had prepaid so that was a holdup at checkin

We stayed in a sea view room...not cheap..But a wonderful view and terrace with the sea view...loved the good wifi and kitchen....so close to the restaurants.....one next door!!!!,,,if you stay in russell...make sure you take the 14 minute walk to Long Beach!

Would have liked a small gate between the corridor to reception and the unit next door.

We liked just about everything. Loved how everything was in walking distance, the people of Russell are so friendly, food at the eateries was good, especially at the Seaside restaurant, their's was impeccable

I thought the toilet stall was a bit narrow, and I personally are not good with under bench fridges because of bad knees

The location is exceptional. So handy to shops, restaurants, wharf and all facilities. Room was big, kitchen had everything we need and more. Bed was comfortable and bathroom had everything supplied. [ Even had makeup wipes ]

Room was well appointed and very clean. Enjoyed the stay.

Parking is an issue, only 5 bays for 12 rooms. If you’re not luckily enough to get one of the allocated bays, you take a gamble with the 30 to 60 minute bays across the road.
