Breakfast was delicious, hot food to order, toast, juices, croissants and various home made jams and marmalade. Evening meals - I had sirloin steak cooked perfectly the first night and a prime beef burger the next. My partner had chicken supreme the first night and a chicken burger the next. All were lovely. We both had creme brulle and agreed this was the best we had ever tasted. Special mention to the lovely Receptionist who checked us on and out - she noticed my walking stick and was unhappy with the room we had booked (top floor which we were unaware of) she changed the room to an upgraded ground floor FOC - this made a huge difference to my experience, that you so much. We used the leisure facilities which were very nice. The hotel itself is lovely, full of Georgian splendour without being pretentious. Housekeeping was excellent. All the staff are friendly. What a lovely hotel.

Nothing it was perfect.

The property is historic and beautiful, and the location is excellent for exploring all of Cornwall. The staff were super nice and helpful. We enjoyed the pool and gym. The restaurant served good food. We thought that the overall value of what got at the Penventon was excellent based on other options we explored in Cornwall. Redruth has lovely Victorian architecture and many interesting things to see and do. We particularly enjoyed visiting Kresen Kernow (archives with largest collection of Cornish documents), hiking to the top of Carn Brea for spectacular views from the highest point in Cornwall, visiting the fascinating St Euny church, and the fabulous pasties at Bray's and K's. All of these are within walking distance. We also enjoyed the nearby Great Flat Lode, King Edward Mine Museum and the local beach at Portreath. There are excellent trails all around the area for biking, running and walking. If by any chance you are descended from Cornish miners and interested in learning more about your heritage, this is a particularly good place to stay! Although Redruth has fallen on hard economic times recently, which is heartbreaking to see, it was once one of the most prosperous towns in England due to the mining industry and the history and charm are still there for you to enjoy!

There don't seem to be a lot of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. You will need a car. Lots of shops in the downtown area have gone out of business and there are quite a few empty storefronts. The town could use an economic boost.

Staff kind, helpful and friendly, nothing was too much bother for them. food excellent, breakfast generous, loved the shower and the products, room nice and big, bed massive!!! Not at all noisy, nice and quiet, cannot hear people in other rooms. Good size car park, no problem parking. Good size swimming pool!

Pool too cold and hot tub is too small considering people outside the hotel also use these facilities!! Rooms are lovely, but cleaning could be better dust on inside door of bathroom door and table in-front of sofa dusty, would be nice when house keeping came to maybe hoover round and fill product up instead of having to ask! Even though rooms are lovely outside could do with a freshen up hall carpets worn, doors to bedroom untidy need to either replaced doors or sand and re varnish.

I booked for my birthday, and paid £20 for early check in. The receptionist hadn't even looked at my booking before saying 'check in is not until 3pm' and no mention of my birthday. Its a rip off as the room was ready anyway- we had a family suite which was beautiful, housekeeping did a lovely job, Balloons and a note. A little outside area to sit. Not enclosed/private so you could not sit in your robe as people walk past with their dogs to access the gate beside the room. We all had robes, enough cups (usually hotels forget the children), water beside the bed. Lots of storage space. The bathroom was clean, Bramley toiletries, the only issue was no body cream which I would expect from a four star hotel so neither myself or daughter took any. As the room is ground floor the bathroom window should have a security latch so you can open it but people cant climb in via the carpark. We had afternoon tea in the lounge area, very nice. Good selection on the menu, great back bar. Dinner was delicious, I had a bottle of Bollinger as not too overpriced. The gym is small and could do with something nice on the walls - when on the treadmill its rather boring looking at a blank wall. It was disappointing the jacuzzi wasn't working and the receptionist didn't tell me at check in. I was however, asked if I'd had a free glass of birthday prosecco by the helpful lady on the spa reception desk. The receptionist also failed to offer this.

Receptionist not checking my boking upon check in. Not informing me Jacuzzi wasn't working nor asking if I would like my complimentary glass of Prosecco for my birthday - little things make a big difference to guests Fellow guests who had 3 yapping dogs they left in their room.

Room was clean, adequate size with good size bathroom and amenities. Breakfast was very good, lots of choice. Room service very good. We attended a birthday celebration whilst there and the staff were very helpful whilst we were helping to set it up.

To use the shower was very difficult (some mobility difficulties) and unable to lift leg over the high sided bath without support. No lift to bedrooms and although we were on the first floor this still neccessitated climbing a narrow staircase, then down a couple of steps again to room level. The porter kindly carried up our main suitcase as we would not have managed the stairs with it. The room was quite cold and although the reception desk were informed it remained cold for the two nights we were there. (There was heating in other areas but it was the end of September and the weather changed to a real Autumnal feel)

Good choices at breakfast. Very good selection of drinks at the bar. The spa treatment I had was absolutely perfect, could not have asked for a better massage/facial. The pool was good and I liked that they had adult only swim times (a big bonus during the summer holidays). A great place to stay, even for a solo traveller! Lots of parking spaces and for free which was just brilliant. A little book was in the room with some local places and how long it takes to get to them. I found this very helpful! The closest beach is a 10 minute drive and absolutely stunning - just remember to take change for the car parks! Only 45 minutes from The Eden Project too which was fab!

People are so fussy with their reviews, this hotel was great!

Breakfast was lovely and had lots of choice. The restaurant and staff were great. Room comfortable, mostly quiet (other than 6am beeping reversing delivery truck one morning) excellent shower and lovely quality extras such as toiletries, bottled water and hot drinks which were repelled everyday. the reception kindly arranged for a fridge to be put in my room also. Towels are delightful fluffy and thick. Robe supplied also which was nice. Spa and swimming pool very fairly nice, sauna could've been a bit hotter and the changing rooms are in need of a bit of modernisation. I had a facial at the spa and it was absolutely wonderful. Big car park with plenty of space and hotel decorated very tastefully throughout. All staff were extremely helpful and professional.

I thought the pool changing rooms were a bit tired and scruffy compared to the rest of the hotel and the bedsheets were slightly starchy....but again - nothing major!

The breakfast was very special; good quality ingredients and beautifully presented. The swimming pool and facilities were excellent. The bar and surrounding grounds were very nice. The staff were friendly and helpful. Fresh coffee in my room facilities was an extra special treat. My room was lovely and quiet, no air conditioner or extractor sounds which was such a relief. Plenty of parking and turning space was good. Nice selection of hot and cold drinks from the bar.

A lot of steps; not good if you have mobility issues. Didn’t like the music at breakfast, so avoided the restaurant for the evening meal. Availability of fresh milk for my room would have been nice; maybe it could be available for a small charge from the bar. The paper coasters in my room were very thin, so I was worrying about marking the furniture and using my books etc. They need some proper coasters.

breakfast was excellent. The staff were efficient and friendly The room although it was a long walk on the ground floor it overlooked the garden with a small terrace which would have been ideal if the weather was warmer. but it was January. Dinner was also excellent. Small number of choices but all were very appealing. The desserts were to die for

roller skates would have been very welcome to assist us to our room but it was very quiet.

The staff were so friendly and helpful - the breakfast staff even gave me a bag to takeaway breakfast as I was in a rush and couldn't order off the menu. The breakfast buffet was good but there was a whole menu too to supplement. The lounge/bar area is very fancy. The bathroom was very modern (apart from the floor).

The single room I had was very basic - it was dated. It felt like it was getting a little shabby in some areas such as the bathroom lino floor coming away near the skirting, the pool/leisure spa/changing areas was looking a little tired. But there was nothing wrong with it. Everything was very useable but I was a bit surprised.
