My girlfriend and I were the very first guests at Hotel Studlagil and would highly recommend this stay to everyone immediately. The hotel manager is probably the warmest person we have met so far on our trip to Iceland. Her big dream to take over her own hotel recently became reality and now she is renovating the purchased hotel step by step. We would love to know already now how this hotel will develop during the next months / years. We will come back and wish already now a lot of success in the realization of this heart project!

Everyone is very friendly and generous with their time. It is a great place to watch northern lights. The food is tasty and there is tea and coffee available all day. There is a nice sitting area with sofas to meet other people in a relaxed atmosphere, I enjoyed hanging out with people who work there. The hotel is clean. All glory to the Winnie-the-Pooh!

Restaurant was excellent. Limited menu but perfect execution of the wolf fish - steak was slightly overcooked but quality of the meat made up for it. Location was very close to the Studlagil hike. Kettle for hot water is conveniently provided in the common area. Room and bathroom were clean.

The curtains were hung on a wooden branch and are hard to close. We were also a bit confused about the main switch for electricity in the room. But these were only minor inconveniences.

The hotel is a conversion from the old school and the owner has done a fantastic job. I didn't feel like this was meant to be a place you'd stay for long and we were in the majority being that we were using it as a one night stop on our trip. For this purpose it was perfect. I did end up asking if we could check in late which they're not really set up for, but the staff were very helpful and communication was great - thanks so much to them for this when our plans changed last minute. Breakfast was a good continental spread, quite basic but all we needed. The rooms are very modern, spacious and clean. Beds are comfy and the blackout blinds well fitted which was super helpful as we were adjusting to Iceland's daylight hours. I like the addition of some older vintage dining sets in the school hall - adds character! We appreciated our early start from here to visit the canyon at Studlagil, although we left as soon as we'd had breakfast the carpark was pretty full and when we'd finished our walk there was no space to park in the nearer car park at all.

Nothing, everything was great.

Very close to Studlagil canyon , just around 20 mins drive from the hotel to the parking area where you start a 40min walk to this amazing place. The hotel is on the main road. Small property with also hostel type facilities with shared bathrooms and dorms. We stayed in a room with private bathroom, it was basic but super clean and tidy. Perfect to recharge batteries before visiting the Canyon next morning.

Room price a bit hight, no breakfast included. Make sure u book earlier if u want better deals. Arrived a bit late and was raining, no proper sign for the main entrance or reception area to do the check in. There are not many more hotels in the area that close to the canyon. Don't expect much, just a place for a good night sleep.

We were planning to visit Studlagil Canyon so this was the perfect location. It's been recently refurbished so the rooms are in mint condition. The price was really good for what we could find so thought it was worth trying it out. Turns out it was great - comfortable bed and good bathroom. The dining/reception area is spacious and nicely designed. There is a separate section with a kitchen sink and washing machine which we needed. Staff were friendly and were accommodating whenever we had questions.

The only thing to mention was that it can get a bit noisy as the sound from the hallway travels through. We only stayed for two nights so it wasn't a huge deal.

The Hotel Studligil is a gem. You might miss it if you’re driving by, as they’re still waiting for their new sign. It changed hands recently, and the manager explained that the focus has been to make the inside comfortable before focusing on the outside. This former school’s rooms are spotless with new baths and plenty of room for luggage. There is no mini-fridge or kettle, but there is a large dining room serving dinner and breakfast. The best part is the food, and everything we had was hand crafted by the manager, her son, and her daughter. Actually, the best part was the manager herself. So sweet and helpful! And she actually went to school here when she was a kid. We had planned to save our pennies and eat out of the cooler, but my partner decided to get a bite from the restaurant just before they closed at 9pm. It’s a limited menu because everything is freshly homemade. The curry soup, homemade burger creation, and savory bread were so wonderful that we opted to order breakfast while having dinner. In my somewhat limited experience with artfully created food, the food and sauces run out before the stomach is full. Not so here. There was extra of everything from the homemade blueberry sauce for the burger (I know, but trust me it’s amazing) to the herb butter for the homemade bread. This non-pretentious, no-frills hotel has common areas to socialize and meet fellow travelers, and the staff is thoughtful and kind. Even if you don’t stay here, I recommend you stop in for a meal. (We enjoyed meeting the manager so much we wanted to remember her with a photo; she's in the middle; the food photos are before and after dinner.)

Nothing, they were amazing.

When I arrived, I could smell food cooking in the kitchen. They offer a simple meal in the evening (of which I took advantage) and a breakfast in the morning (which I did not due to timing). The food was excellent, and the staff were extremely friendly. There were no frills in the rooms (i.e., no television, no coffee maker or kettle) but the friendly atmosphere made me want to spend less time in my room and more time in the ample common spaces that were available. The staff were also very happy to provide advice on things to see and do nearby. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here.

Great location! The staff worked hard to help us. I needed to clean the bugs off the windscreen of the rental vehicle and they were able to provide me with an old cleaning cloth with some soapy water! That really helped! They had a vegetable soup (pumpkin I believe), and it was awesome.

They forgot to give us the extra pillow; however, they did apologize in the morning. All was forgiven.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The outside appearance was deceiving, from the inside it was such a cute, warm and welcoming facility. The rooms were modern and bright, and it was so close to the canyon. We had a three-bedroom room, and there was enough space for all of us to move around. One of our lights wasn't working and the staff immediately replaced it for us. There was a restaurant on site where you could have dinner and breakfast.
