We chose this hotel as our last stop in Indonesia, after spending time in Ubud and Munduk. Great choice! The staff was so kind and helpful (special thank you to Widi and Nofita!) and always had genuine smiles on their faces. The owner did a great job with their choice of employees. The food was exceptional. All local and homemade (make sure you try the vegan pancakes for breakfast!). As others have noted: the hotel doesn't serve lunch but that shouldn't stop you from booking as there is a lovely sunset resto/bar less than 10 mins away by foot. It's a lovely walk through banana (and other) trees and you will get the chance to see chickens, roosters, beautiful brown cows and dogs along the way. We stayed in the Suite which is located above another room and we're delighted with this choice. There is no air conditioning but it wasn't needed either as there was a lovely breeze through the openings in the room. The suite has the best view as there's a covered balcony going around it. We spent our early evenings reading in the comfortable chairs on the balcony, listening to the birds and geckos and watching the colors in the sky change. Speaking of geckos and animals: yes, you hear the geckos and the roosters and you occasionally see the geckos in the room but the sounds and sight of wildlife didn't stop us from sleeping in and having a good night's rest. We only saw a gecko in our room once and it didn't do anything. If anything, it was scared of us so I would really encourage you all to not be worried about this. I'm a light sleeper so had packed ear plugs after reading the reviews below but ended up not using them at all. Wildlife sights and sounds are part of life in Indonesia and we need to adapt to that as visitors. It's something special :) We found the location so peaceful and calm that it was really hard to leave. Hugely recommended!!

There is nothing we didn't like about this hotel. To note: As other travelers have mentioned, the road leading up to the hotel is not great but that's because the government has yet to finance and repair it and is in no way the fault of the hotel owners. When using Booking, it is common practice to read up on past reviews so this should come as no surprise to anyone.

I had a wonderful stay at Tanah Damai! - Incredible pool with view - very nice bungalow (in mine - poolside - I even had a AC because of the bad reviews the owner wanted to change that. I think it shows how great they do their job) -very nice breakfast! You could choose different options (even amazing bowls) and if you want to eat at the restaurant or at the bungalow or pool - scooter for rent - Amok Sunset closeby is just amazing! - they clean very well the rooms everyday - it was a amazing experience in a stunning surrounding!

- the light is quite dark in the bathroom - the roosters from the neighborhood are loud but there are roosters everywhere in Nusa Penida. If you dont want to hear at all the jungle noise you should not get a wooden bungalow. - yes the road to the hotel is bad but it is quite bad everywhere in Nusa Penida to be fair. But yes the road to the hotel is especially very bad.

We spent 2 nights in this wonderful hotel in two different cabins and we loved it . It is a place to disconnect from the crowds coming to the island every day for a perfect pic. The decoration, the comfortable bed and the effort put by the staff to help us with transportation & tours made our stay memorable. We loved the eco-friendly vive & availability of vegetarian & vegan options on the menu. We had no problem at all with hearing geckos sometimes or seeing a monkey crossing our path as we are both nature lovers. We really slept great here so were well rested to do our tours. Oh and the swimming with its geat view of the sea really deserves to be mentioned. Watching the sunset there was amazing. We really recommend this place to all nature lovers that appreciate beautiful sunsents, exquisite decoration and want to get away from the crowds roaming the island.

We lived in the 3-bedroom villa. I believe it was the biggest type on the property. It would be good to note that the other types of rooms may not have fans or A/C. I saw standing fans were provided in the other cottages but certainly there was no AC. The property itself and the staff were very good. Lovely quiet location and it felt very homely. However, we did not feel very secure in our villa. The balcony had bamboo curtains/blinders that opened directly to the garden. We weren't too worried about theft but more concerned about animals/insects/reptiles that could easily sneak into our villa.

The approach road is very very bumpy. It is not a proper road and please book proper transport from the harbor/port to the hotel. The roads in Nusa Penida can be backbreaking. Note that there would be nothing to do in this area after sunset.

Staff was super nice and friendly and the place is in the middle of the jungle, it's quiet, calm and private. Good price for scooter and the room was perfectly clean. Nice view from the pool, beautiful garden. Free refill water.

It was a little bit overpriced for what you can get in Nusa Penida. We get a room in the bottom of the garden, it was a large room but very basic. With the picture we expected something different. There is some plastic in the bottom of the garden as well, which is kind of sad The breakfast was OK, nothing amazing.

We had a great stay at Tanah Damai hotel. the room was amazing and so pretty and spacious. It was very clean despite is was open on the jungle. The pool has a great view on the mountains. Staff is very kind and drove us around. The breakfast was good. Next to the hotel there are a beach (15 min walk) and a cool bar to watch a beautiful sunset. It was a great experience overall.

Maybe the food could be improved for lunch and dinner.

Rooms are just like the pictures, with a great integration between the building and nature. Good temperature even without air conditioning. Nice view from the pool. Everything was clean and organized. Restaurant has good food.

Although it seems close to attractions and other spots, you definitely need to drive a scooter or get a taxi to visit most of the beaches. Rooms have a lot of openings in the walls/ceiling, which allow insects/animals to get in sometimes. Staff is friendly and welcoming, but most of them doesn’t speak English if you need to discuss any particular issues.

The location in the middle of the nature was very nice. Forget about the sunset point further down the road and spent some time in the evening at the pool. You will be rewarded with a stunning sunset. Some monkeys visited us there. Geckos keeping the open houses miscito free. Food is very delicious and good. Really nothing negative about this place - everything is clean, staff is very helpful and friendly but please, don't expect a luxury hotel.

Small scooters could be in better shape.

The view from the pool is beautiful, there is also a small but really nice club to see the sunset just 2 minutes away, the bed was very comfortable and the staff is super friendly.

The light in the room is very limited and it makes the room look a bit dark, situation that made us feel a bit scared specially at night as we hear or found a couple of animals in the room (normal due the location and the characteristics of the place I think) but the problem is the we were not always able to see where the were so a bit more of light would help.

Nice friendly staff, big villa and nice hotel pool, you can feel like in the middle of the jungle and even sometimes see the pack of monkeys :) another plus is the scooters delivered right to the lobby, even tho helmets was rather not the cleanest ones.

Water pressure was sometimes low or none. The road to the hotel is in very bad condition.
