Stayed here last year and everything was of an exceptionally high standard; room, facilities (kitchen with fridge with cold bottled water, plus tea and coffee), breakfast, host, cleanliness etc. The same on this visit. Also this year the heat was exceptional yet the room(s) remained cool, which was an even bigger bonus. This chambre d’hote, is worth even a detour to stay in. For us we now choose our route south to visit this village and chambre d hote. The village shop, and boulangerie both have lovely owners, and the chambre d’hote is one of the best we have stayed in on our many many trips through France.

Super Host multilingual Joao, greeted us warmly and provided great restaurant recommendation. Room was adorable, lots of white cotton in that very French manner. Quiet and restful house. Things Joao had no control over: Early road traffic more noticeable if your room is on the front of the building. It's normal in Europe to not have aircon so it can be stuffy on a hot summer night. No screens on windows so mosquitoes do have their way with you, if you're prone to being delicious.

Fantastic room, great location, very welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. Delicious continental breakfast was included in the extremely reasonable room charge, which set us up for the day. There were tea and coffee facilities free of charge for guests. Our host told us there were a couple of eateries in the village but we decided to buy food for a picnic at the supermarket on our way to the chambre d’hôte and ate it on a picnic table by the Vienne, a short walk from the hotel. Sheer bliss. We enjoyed our stay so much we decided to stay for an extra night and we weren’t disappointed. We will definitely return on our next holiday to France. Highly recommended.

Joao, the proprietor. He was so kind, gentle, and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble for him. He very kindly made us a lovely salad one evening, much appreciated as we were a little exhausted to go out again to find a restaurant. Breakfast was AMAZING (continental, with many choices and included in the price, unusual). Our room was lovely, and big (Queen Deluxe). If I had to nit-pick, it would be that the parquet flooring was very squeaky - my wife has to get up to use the bathroom several times in a night, so it disturbed my sleep a lot but I'm not sure what you could do about that. Mattress a bit hard, but that's a personal choice. No tea/coffee making facilities in room but a small, communal kitchenette was available where tea, coffee, milk, and everything else was provided, plus there was a small refrigerator to keep items cool. No oven, but you could prepare light meals such as salad. There was also a communal lounge/dining room with TV - no TV in bedroom. Didn't bother us as we had a tablet with good WiFi access. The cleanliness of the place was staggering. We don't know how Joao does it. My wife told him she wanted to take him home with her! Exideuill itself does not have a great deal to offer in terms of bars, restaurants - there is a small, new bistro and one restaurant/bar, Just a few mins drive away are various towns where there is a greater choice, although, as vegetarians, we found eating out very difficult, and everything seemed to come with chips. A lot of burgers! We did, however, have an incredible lunchtime meal at the Hotel de France in Rochechoart. Expensive (we went on weekend when prices are higher - €44 each, not including wine! If you go in the week, it's cheaper - €18-25). Just behind the hotel, a 2 min walk, there is the beautiful river Vienne with picnic area. Exideuill is a good centre for travelling around and we would thoroughly recommend you stay at La Belle Vienne.

Noisy parquet flooring. No tea/coffee making facilities in room. You have to bring drinks up to your room from kitchenette via 2 sets of stairs. Not really a problem unless you are a bit disabled, like my wife. Wouldn't stop us from staying there again, but might be a useful note for someone with a disability. Guess you could bring your own!

La Belle Vienne is a wonderful B&B. Everything is comfortable, cozy, and clean. We really enjoyed our time here and recommend it highly.

João is really the most considerate and lovely host - so attentive and kind. The B&B is probably the cleanest I have stayed in, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. Tea and coffee-making facilities are provided in the form of a kitchenette downstairs and a fridge for the use of guests, plus a sitting room area where you can watch tv. The breakfast was splendid, with a wonderful bread basket, orange juice, fresh fruit and coffee. There are couple of options for dining in Exideuil, plus a little shop with basic essentials. Thanks so much for looking after us, João!

The only thing I would say is that for light sleepers the squeaky floorboards are a little disruptive, but of course this can only be expected in an old house and shouldn't bother many people.

Starting with the ambiance in the village. Lovely staff in the little tabac/supermarket. Went to bistro 16 to check opening times. Lady walking past informed us 5:30 without our asking her. So village ambiance just lovely. Beautiful setting by the river. Back to chambre d’hote. Welcomed on first ring of doorbell. Whole house what we saw was exceptionally clean and tidy. Absolutely beautiful old house. Room was very good. High ceilings and big quiet room to back so couldn’t fault in the heat, t stayed cool. Spotlessly clean, lovely long bathroom with excellent shower. Communal kitchen to make a drink, or fill flask with boiling water next morning, perfect. Being able to put Milk and ice packs in fridge/freezer a huge bonus for us travelling further south. Breakfast, much more than normal continental with fresh fruit on platter, yogourt, cereal, lovely fresh bread and huge croissants and chocos! Coffee and tea brill, with milk! Nothing to fault. Look forward to visiting again next year when travelling north to south of France. Also boulongerie Anna superb for picking up not just bread but pizzas and cookies to take with us next morning, perfect. Again staff lovely.

What a beautiful place! A gem in the little village. I loved the decor and the bed was so comfortable with such lovely linen! Most places don't seem to think about the linen but it's bliss to sleep on lovely sheets! Breakfast is wonderful. Felt bad because I couldn't even eat half of what was provided. Host is lovely. Stay if you can and eat at Bistro 61 down the road. The owner is 👌

For those doing France en Velo, this little place is right on route! Great place and our host João (John) was very welcoming and very accommodating. Our room and en suite were delightful. Very clean and light. There is a comfortable lounge and TV room. There is also a small kitchen where you can use the kettle and fridge. Breakfast next morning was great. We had orange juice, cereals, yoghurt, a small bowl of chopped kiwi & orange segments, bread, croissants, pain au chocolat, jams, cheese and tea/coffee. A fab start to the day! João is an amazing host, managing this single-handedly - a great guy! We highly recommend La Belle Vienne as a place to stay and we would definitely stay here again.

We booked this as part of our road trip through the Charente region. It was the fourth place we'd stayed in the week and it compared very well indeed with others. It's a beautiful old house in the centre of a village and we were able to park right outside for free. We were given a warm welcome by the host who gave us recommendations for dinner and even booked the restaurant for us. Our room was on the first floor and was stylishly decorated and furnished with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was spacious with a good sized shower. Toiletries were provided, which was a nice touch. There's a kitchen on site where we could chill our wine, make tea, etc. Breakfast was freshly made and was delicious in a large panelled dining room. This is definitely a stylish and comfortable place and we wouldn't hesitate to return there if in the region again.
