I liked a lot the food offered for breakfasts and dinners. It was very nice and some dishes were exceptional. I loved the beef cheek, for example. The room was clean and quiet, it was nice to sleep without any distraction at all. There are lovely routes for hiking around the place, and we tried one of them. Also, there are easily accessible by car historical sights related to the Roman Empire in just 8-15 miles away from the hotel. Battlesteads is a lovely place!

It is hard to come up with something which I did not like about the place.

The place was clean and warm, the bar staff were never in the bar ,seems as tho he or she mainly he is away doing something else , also the barman seemed a bit off with u . Also my biggest complaint was the price of an average bottle of wine 26.90 , the food cajun chicken was not spicy and undercooked just all placed in a shallow bowl with the chips and lettuce very expensive 4 a pub meal ,we got a £3.00 discount 4 this , also i did not know u could not stoak the fire in bar and i was spoken to like a child for doing so ,very disappointed with my stay

Whilst exploring Northumberland and surrounding area, my father and I stayed for three nights at Battlesteads Hotel. The room was comfortable and maintained everyday with a range of complimentary tea, coffee and delicious biscuits to choose from. The food at the hotel was fantastic: there was a good choice on offer for breakfast each morning and the evening meals were delicious and of high quality. A big thankyou to the team at Battlesteads for such a welcome and pleasant stay. From the cleaners who maintained our rooms and gave a cheery ‘good morning’ to us each morning as we got up for breakfast, to the Reception, bar and restaurant staff who were always friendly, polite and extremely helpful. They went above and beyond to help my father to arrange vehicle recovery when his motorcycle broke down and the maintenance worker on site also took his time to try and help resolve the issue. We genuinely felt welcome and will certainly be recommending Battlesteads to any family or friends intending to visit the area in the future.

Had a lovely 1 night stay at Battlesteads. The bed was the most comfortable bed I have slept in! Great facilities in the room, including teas, coffees, fresh fruit and biscuits. I ate in the restaurant too and the food was delicious. The village itself is beautiful and I had a thoroughly enjoyable stomp by the riverside before dinner. There is a leaflet on walks by reception as well as other local attractions. I had booked into the dark sky observatory for the evening which was the purpose of my visit bit it was too cloudy to see anything which was a massive shame, but we can't control the weather!

We hadn't actually expected much from this hotel, as it was kind of a stop off on the way home from our road trip, and when we went in we thought 'okay, this is fine.' But the staff were immediately brilliant, and the room was superb - clean, tidy, comfortable, and with some excellent add-on basics, such as proper milk, a tea pot, fresh fruit, tissues, washing flannels, and a jacuzzi bath. Superb. Then we went for a pint in the garden, and after a few ropey beers during this trip the ale in Battlesteads was superb - well kept, and tasty. The garden was magnificent, with lots of areas to sit, flowers and wildlife everywhere, and in the evening sunshine we were delighted to watch the birds fly around the myriad of feeders. The sustainability aspects of the hotel were great, and visible everywhere. There was a sense of real pride about it. The evening meal was terrific. Again, we hadn't realised that the hotel had such "gastro-chops", but my wife had two starters which were amazing, with the plates decorated with fresh edible flowers from the garden, and my cajun chicken was superb. We had a cheeseboard for dessert, which was made up of local cheeses from just down the road. That night the room was comfortable and wonderfully quiet, with the only sound being an owl patrolling around the village in the wee hours. Restful and relaxing. Breakfast the following morning was equally fantastic, with a delicious smoked fish omelette to scratch my wife's kedgeree cravings, and my Northumberland grill was perfect, with local produce perfectly cooked. Can't fault it. Throughout the stay we were looked after wonderfully by excellent staff, and a good number of them too. From the younger ones through to the older professionals, everyone was friendly, efficient, fun and ready to look after your needs. There was an unobtrusive sense that we were valued guests, which was superb. We've already rebooked for another stay later this year.

Can't fault anything - all superb.

The hotel was clean, tidy, and comfortable. The room had everything you would need. Iron, ironing board, kettle with tea and coffee facilities. There was also the perk of fruit and biscuits left for the guests. Being a female in a hotel room alone, i liked the fact the hotel was locked after a certain time, and only guests with a fob could access the premises. .

I can't fault this hotel. Some would say the service is slightly slow, but the employees carry out multiple rolls in the hotel so understanding. I was on a leisure break so didn't worry me.

The staff were super friendly and accommodating. Very dog friendly - the doggy welcome pack a lovely touch. The lodge room was very spacious and comfortable, nicely appointed and well equipped. Nice touches such as the range of tea /coffee, the fresh milk, fruit and water in the little fridge was great and the biscuits were divine - all replenished daily if you wish! The standard of food at breakfast and dinner was excellent.

We stayed 3 nights and by the 3rd night we were struggling slightly with the dinner menu choices - though I repeat, everything we did have was very good. Perhaps having a nightly 'Special' would broaden the options though we appreciate this may not be economically viable.

Love the bathroom - modern, warm, bright and spacious, fantastic shower, good quality toiletries. Hospitality Tray: Generous and good quality products, including fresh fruit!? Love the long life milk in the bottle, best ever! Thoughtful facilities in room. Good standard restuarant with excellent staff.

1) Reception Room: Unwelcoming! No day light. Seriously needs upgrading with warm lighting. 2) No warm reception and welcome: The staff who sat behind the tiny counter seemed to just go through the motion. Who could blame him sitting in such a depressing room. 3) The twin room is very small. Wish they have more flexible option for twin beds so that we could stay in a bigger room, away from traffic if we'd like to return.

Very comfortable room, exactly as shown in photos. Really appreciated thoughtful touches - fruit, fresh milk etc. Good evening meal (I hadn't booked beforehand and it would probably be advisable as they only had very early/late options available) and an excellent breakfast with a wide choice of options. The hotel is in a beautiful location which I wish I'd had time to explore.

Room 14 is a ground floor room and it does overlook the steps to the car park. This didn't particularly bother me, but if it does, suggest you ask for a different room.

Our lodge room had enough space for 3 or 4. We loved the sofa idea for the TV. The bathroom had 2 sinks and a bath with buttons for bubbles etc and a power shower. I loved that there was actually enough milk, tea & coffee, hot chocolate (some gorgeous biscuits) and a small fridge. Staff were lovely! and my son ate his whole fish and chips - he never finishes a fish but said it was 'absolutely delicious'. I had monkfish and butter bean mash, my husband the chicken and pui lentils with chorizo. All finished our meals! Thank you for such a lovely stay! we ll be back! Fantastic that this place is also so involved with their sustainability and our stargazing night was insightful!
