We really enjoyed our stay here! The fact that it is right on the beach is awesome, especially as surfers the days we good swell we could walk right out to Kerewe and have a great time. The common area is nice to relax in by the beach and overall a great place to stay for a while. Compared to the other accommodation offerings in the area this is a nice middle ground -not too luxury, but not roughing it!
It is the most expensive accommodation we have stayed in in Indonesia but not the nicest. I think they should add some more facilities to the room for the price - perhaps a safe, mosquito net, shelves, hooks to hang things on, and bigger bedside tables. Also the restaurant adds 15% tax which is not disclosed. We also got sick as well as did some of the other guests - but hard to be certain if this is to do with the restaurant or not.

I don’t know how to sum this up in short, but our stay at Sumba Beach House was absolutely magical. The staff are all amazing, no request is too small and they really make you feel at home. Melky helped us plan activities each day and each ran so smoothly, we had the most wonderful fishing trip with Aldy who helped us see dolphins, turtles, and catch 5 fish. The staff at SBH cooked the fish for us when we got back. Jenny and her bar team were super hospitable, very attentive and the food was delicious and super cheap. All of the staff at SBH are so friendly, speak great English and deliver everything with a smile. This trip was a bit different for us, super relaxing and quite remote. At first when we got there we felt a bit confronted with how peaceful it was but soon came to adjust and it didn’t take us long to settle in and enjoy the beauty of the place. The location of SBH is far from the airport but the best location on the island, transport made easier as the hotel arranges taxi to and from the airport. The hotel is nearby other resorts so if you fancy somewhere different for dinner it’s easy to achieve. You are on the beach front, and when you fall asleep at night you can hear the waves crashing. The bed was so comfortable I wish I could have taken the pillows back home with me. I think this is the most relaxing place I’ve been.
This isn’t something I didn’t like, but something to be aware of - not many places take cars so make sure you withdraw money when you come out of the airport or stop at Waikabubak for an ATM so you don’t have to stress the rest of your stay, as the nearest town is about one hour away. SBH does take card though.

- friendly team on site - super location - everything in great shape - nice food
- price quality relation a bit tense - it felt at times that there was not really a manager on site - the tour pricing and itinerary was opaque. Our guide never guided us, he took another group of 4 people on a slightly different trip. We only saw him at lunch and on parking spots. Hence we were left with a not really English speaking Driver, who was super nice. Still, the hotel for this price point should check who they work with and make sure what is promised is delivered. - the first night we slept in a different room with the bathroom being under construction. We paid the exact same as for the room next door which was completed. Would expect a commercial gesture.

Great location, lovely staff comfortable rooms, food nice. Would certainly stay again.
Liked it all but small things grated a bit. Charging room guests for tea seems very mean when room isn’t cheap. Most hotels etc supply tea and coffee, or have facilities in room to make it. The boat to go surfing is too small and small motor, very uncomfortable and small range, and probably pretty dangerous too. But this trip just surfed out front so didn’t really matter too much.

Fantastic location, easy to walk to other beaches .. Weta Bella WOW .. and to local desa adats (traditional villages) without the tourist hassle of Ratenggaro, lovely ethnice feel, right on beach, right on great surf breaks (although I am recovering from numerous injuries and couldnt surf), lots of activities provided by hotel, great staff - thanks to Jenny and Brett in particular altho I am sure there are plenty others we didnt meet from behind the scenes also doing their fair share, decent food.
No dislikes really but a few comments - it would have been a 10 but some things on menu werent available ... right down to avocados. Also, I lived in Indo and rest of SE Asia since 1985, and the room quality is a 750k to max 1 mill rupiah (50 USD - 65 USD), not the 2 mill we got charged. There again, EVERYWHERE in this area costs much more than rest of Indo and SE Asia (the big villa behind this place is insane at 8 million for a room .. nice BUT FFS! .. that place makes Sumba Beach House feel like very GOOD value) - lack of competition and remote I would guess? BUT for the location, the waves, and the vibe Sumba Beach House seems worth every rupiah.

Perfect location, very nice setup, peaceful nice little pool. Great staff who were lovely, very helpful and attentive.
No kettle or fridge in room. Had to pay for everything even cups of tea, which in this price range I think should be free. Breakfast same issue really. Food was fine there in general but nowhere else to go so a little limited and not cheap,, but Sumba prices are more than Bali etc, and in line with that

The Sumba Beach House is a perfect beach getaway! The views are amazing, the beach is clean and walkable, the area is not crowded, the ocean is swimmable and you can surf too. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. There are lots of activities nearby that the staff can help you arrange if you need. The food was wonderful and fresh. The room is simple yet very comfortable and the bathroom is beautiful. Thanks to Melky, Jeni, and the entire staff!

This is a stunning setting right on the beach front in the exclusive bay in SW Sumba that is shared with other renowned properties. It is very much an area for surfers - we were here to chill and enjoy. You need transport to move beyond the hotel but applies for all of Sumba snd there is always someone to organise that. Food we very well prepared snd had enough variety and a good price. Rooms were delightful and very beachy!
Nothing - be prepared for the remoteness . But that’s the attraction of travel in Sumba

The rooms are nicely decorated, comfy beds, location was perfect. Right on the beach, close to Pantai Watu Bela and Marosi Beach and authentic Marapu villages, but you'll need a motorbike. The staff is super friendly, spoke very well English which we've noticed is quite rare on Sumba.
We would have liked a bit more space between the room and kitchen & restaurant area for more privacy. The price per night is quite high and would suggest to include breakfast.

Simple and well kept rooms with an amazing beach front location. The housekeeping was like staying at a 5 star resort. There aren't a lot of mid-range options in Sumba, but Sumba Beach House is a solid one!
Because they are all broken, there actually aren't any surfboards for rent. While we were told we could rent from the sister resort next door, in the end the staff wouldn't allow it in case one of their beginner guests wanted to go out. So no boards in the end. The relationship between the two resorts was confusing. We never really felt welcome over there, but their guests would take up the restaurant and bar at SBH. The on-site restaurant never had fish available and after seven days we were pretty tired of the menu.
