We had a great stay at Coral Reef with a very warm welcoming with an homemade banana bread. The hotel is very well located in Kappa town, walking distance from all shops and restaurants. The beach view from our room was a delight, we had couple of happy hours and breakfasts from the room terrace to enjoy it.

Nevertheless, the rooms are oldish with a lack of light (we were at ground floor). They would need a small maintenance refresh and it would be nice to include basic tableware to the rooms.

The location is excellent. The view out the sliding glass doors is a breathtaking view of the ocean. There is a wonderful walking/biking trail to explore up and down the area. You will find delicious food trucks, one of which serves the best Ahi Fish Tacos! The staff at Coral Reef is outstanding. They strive to help you with whatever need you have. We loved being able to use the hotel's beach towels and hair dryer and laundry services. Parking was not plentiful, but it was adequate and free and right by our unit.

The interiors were dated. Although everything worked, I really didn't like the small size of the toilet. That was not a major issue though.

The front desk workers were so friendly and helpful. This hotel is a little gem in a very pricey resort town. They keep fresh banana bread in the lobby every day, homemade for the guests. Made it feel like we were staying with family. There’s a trail running behind the property to stroll along the coastline, beaches up and down the road, and restaurants everywhere. Just make sure to check out prices before you go some places, and take note of opening/closing times! The view from the ocean-front rooms are beautiful!! The rooms are also super cute too. With a few really small issues (bathroom lights flickering), the staff was quick to make note of it to repair. We were only there a night, but it was wonderful.

It was just difficult to get in and out at times in the car. It’s on a main road in and out, so traffic can be absolutely relentless during weekday commuter times in the morning and afternoon.

The location of this hotel is fabulous. It is right on a beautiful beach. The grounds are gorgeous and it has a sweet little swimming pool. We walked along the bike trail to many of the stores and restaurants in the town. The staff was extra friendly and helpful. They were able to upgrade my room and give early check-in. They have tons of videos to borrow. We totally enjoyed the vibe of this place.

Yes, the rooms are in need of an update. However, they were comfortable and the location was so wonderful, we didn’t spend much time in the room..

We were upgraded to an ocean view room that had a terrace with 2 chairs and a small table. Ate one takeout supper there, and also had a fine view of the sun rising over the ocean between tall palms - nothing between the hotel lawn and the shoreline but a public walking/jogging path. Interesting heritage cabinet furniture pieces (big flatscreen tv inside the tall one) in the room. Used the minifridge and microwave frequently for snacks and leftovers. There was an outdoor pool with a decorative waterfall that was enjoyed by other families, but we were too busy to use it. I think the office lent out pool toys and beach chairs, but again we didn't use them. Very happy with the value - we paid much more for much less elsewhere in the islands.

The one negative we noted about the facility was that our bathroom's toilet had a faulty valve or something that constantly, silently leaked water internally. There wasn't a floor leak or anything we had to deal with, but we felt bad because of the notices posted everywhere about the need to conserve water. We informed the office staff, and maybe they sent someone up to look at it while were were out snorkeling, but it didn't improve while we were there (but that was only one more night). Oh yes, and the neighborhood rooster liked to strut around the property and crow to announce his presence. But we had a lot of fun watching mommy hen trying to corral her chicks.

The staff at check in was very welcoming and kind. The place had an old school feel too it and thats what made it super unique. You could rent DVD's from the office, they pretty much had anything you needed for your stay as well as sunscreen for the pool, bikes to ride around and so many other accommodations. The bed and bedding was so comfortable, probably one of the best sleeps I had in awhile. We had the ocean view king bed room, so waking up to the sound of the ocean and sunrise was beautiful. Would highly recommend.

Building located on a gorgeous part of Kauai. Apx 8-9 miles from Lihue airport. Easy access by car or Uber. (Uber cost us $23.94 including tip). We stayed in a ground floor suit. Receptionists went above and beyond to let us feel comfortable. Room has everything you need for a comfortable stay: bed, bathroom and a terrace/balcony. Hotel provides beach chairs and towels along with other beach items. There is a BBQ to use on their terrace. There are free usage of sun cream if you forgot or water/food for pets, ice machine Coffee & tea in reception and in your room. The room also has microwave, small fridge, ice bucket, glasses inside tap with basin, TV, an armchair, floor lamp and some coffee table. On the terrace we had 2 chairs to enjoy sunrise which was incredible beautiful. There is free parking in their inside yard. Great-great place to stay, I couldn’t recommend it more!

I missed some cutleries from the room as there are microwave and coffee additional (creamer, sugar, sweetener) but there was nothing to eat your meal with. Receptionist couldn’t gave us either. We ended but some compostable cutleries from supermarket.

We stayed 4 nights in the king suite and the ocean view was amazing to wake up to each day. It was a corner unit and the balcony extended from the living room to the bedroom (only accessible from the living room, though). Be willing to pay the extra bucks and request an ocean front upgraded room, 3rd floor and you will not be disappointed. You can't really swim due to coral reef, but if you want ocean front in Kauai, this is a fine property. There are plenty of beaches very close by that you can walk, drive or use one of the hotels bikes. We drove around the whole island and found very nice beaches each day, and this hotel was a perfect way to relax at the beginning and end of our days while in Kauai. Close to airport, too.

What's not to like about being oceanfront in a fully appointed suite in Hawaii?! The rest is just details and is individual as to what people spend their energy on to complain about. Just sort through any negative comments and plan accordingly. This is an amazing value if you aren't into paying the resort fees at name brands and don't mind if everything isn't "perfect."

Excellent value, nicely updated, large room and bathroom. We overlooked the water and the walking path, which was a nice bonus. Didn't try the small pool, but it looked inviting. Only hitch was the internet was off and on (we were there for four nights and had a big storm one night) and the TV system didn't work consistently. Management did send someone to fix it after a couple of phone calls. Very peaceful and quiet family-oriented place, with several decent restaurants and stores nearby.

Spotty wifi and TV.

The location is fantastic. Right outside the window is some grass, a walking path, and then the Pacific Ocean. There's lots of good food within an easy walk, once could easily stay put for the entire stay. Beds were superbly comfortable.

Some of the infrastructure was just a little rough around the edges or dated, but nothing to really complain about and everything important was great. (Others seem more put off; read other reviews for perspective.) Having a screen on the sliding doors (to enjoy the air without the bugs) would have been nice.
