Absolutely loved our stay at this beautiful 20th century house. Really really clean. Gorgeous location. Really friendly staff and the breakfast was delicious (actually in terms of options it was by far the best we have had in the four days we have been away in different hotels). Really just an excellent stay. Wouldn't hesitate to go back next year.
I only have two criticisms of the stay. One, the driveway really does need resurfacing in places as there are some rather monstrous potholes. Two, the bedroom wasn't really big enough to fit the bed as with our luggage we couldn't really get around it. We'd make sure we got a slight larger room next time (the bathroom was fantastic though and very large). And that's it. Really two very small issues for what was a fantastic stay :)

Quality furniture, very pleasant staff, comfortable bed, nice bath, exceptional breakfast. Nice location very quiet just owls hooting at night.
Many attention to detail defects. Or would get full marks. T spoon welded to saucer, lifted saucer with someone’s hit chocolate! Towels very rough drying issue. Huge ketchup bottle on tables? Soap in bathroom had about three squirts left in it. Top it up or replace. Bath squirty soap shampoo conditioner had encrusted product on end of spouts and runs down bath. Lots of negative signs. No WiFi rooms but no mention in room guide. Crazy signage to driveway. Chaotic parking. Just needs a few tweaks as a lovely place and it seems huge investment to look good but nothing to show care for customer needs. Breakfast from 8.30??? It’s not what guests want. I was lucky and breakfast was superb!

The staff were amazing - friendly and professional. Room was very clean. Breakfast was fantastic and portions were huge. Although we didn't go in the garden, it looked like a nice place to sit when the sun is shining.
The lack of a shower in the room - It did have a bath with Jacuzzi, but a shower is important. Having to ring the bell and trying to look for someone if not answering first time round. And some of the guests (lol). Also entrance and drive way really needs to be improved

The location was lovely and very quiet. The room was amazing exactly like the photos on website. Patio outside so we could eat outside morning and night. Fabulous food cooked to perfection and good value for money. The hotel was a family business and the family and their staff were professional and friendly they couldn't do enough for us. It was a suprise night away for my fiancé for his 60th birthday and the Manager gave us a complimentary bottle of prosecco and congratulated him. We will definitely be back as we have never stayed in such a lovely place with such friendly staff.
Couldn't fault a thing.

The property was on the edge of town set in large wooded area making feel you were in middle of the country side. Fortunately it was still close to many of the surrounding attractions. We visited Thorton Le Dale (Bangers and Cash show) on the way up and did a day out to Beamish about 45 minutes away to the North. The staff were very welcoming and when we had an issue with our shower tray not draining we were upgraded to a better room without any quibble. The new room even had a spa bath. We made use of their £40 meal deal on the first night which was good value. Breakfast was plentiful. Although we didn't have twin beds as requested, the bed was plenty big enough for us.
Car parking is a bit tight so make sure they will have space when you book. This hotel is work in progress in areas being an old building but shouldn't affect your stay.

We got held up and came late and the staff were extremely gracious when we finally turned up at 10:30pm! So, so lovely! The room was stunning, the bath was incredible, the breakfast was delicious. We had an amazing stay! There are even free sanitary products and nappies in the foyer toilets - definitely an excellent touch!
Nothing we can remember.

Superb location in a wood with access to good walks. Good breakfast. Quirky. Drinks/meals on the terrace.
It is a favourite for local dog walkers dropping in for a drink on the terrace. Well behaved dogs are fine but one evening was spoiled by two badly behaved visiting dogs. Windows in our room could have done with some maintenance. A shower would have been better than a bath for my wife. I liked the bath!

Breakfast was amazing Grounds were nice to walk around Easy to have a drink on the terrace Evening meal was nice Room was nice and the bath was a great touch - very relaxing
Owners socialised around guests, which I think was part of the experience since it's family run. In the morning, I noticed a plate left out, which had attracted flies. My partner commented on the place needing painting (especially on the outside) but we still both thought it was value for money.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The facilities in the room were good, apart from one aspect* Breakfast was generous and delicious - one of our party is Gluten Free and there was guidance on what to eat and enough options to not feel you were missing out.
*There was virtually no water pressure in the shower. Whilst the bedroom was clean, some of the communal areas could maybe have a little more attention.

The surroundings were beautiful, excellent views when sat in the outside gardens..The bedrooms were beautifully decorated with excellent facilities ,reminiscent of Laura Ashley. The staff are excellent I booked the rooms for my parents and sister for my daughters wedding, and I joined them on the Friday evening for dinner and again on the Sunday morning for breakfast. The food is always fantastic, fresh produce and plentiful. The staff and the owner are always around and happy to chat and get to know you,and genuinely take an interest and remember you when you return.I live locally and often visit with my daughter and our 4 dogs,it’s a very dog friendly hotel, and excellent to sit outside or inside with a nice coffee,or alcoholic drink or 2 or 3. Highly recommend 😀
Nothing everything was excellent ..
