We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The TV in our room wasn't connecting initially but it was attended to very soon after we reported it.

The standard room that we initially booked does not come with a shower, only a bath. This should be made clear in the description of the room. We were offered an upgrade to a suite which had a shower but at considerable extra cost. The suite was comfortable but in need of some maintenance.

The lights from the inn were so welcoming as I arrived in the dark. The receptionist was such a sweetheart to check in on me regularly as I drove, as I had informed her that I was travelling the gravel road from Cathcart in a small car. The River Suite is gorgeous, and you'll feel as though you stepped into a fantasy book with the stream bubbling outside. The library is so homey, and I spent a few days working from there with the wifi. A fire was lit there for me as well, so it was the perfect Winter spot. The food is well prepared and puts quite a few restaurants to shame. The bar is lively and such a great place to meet people and have interesting conversations. The photos do not do it justice. It is a beautiful place, and I would go back in a heartbeat.

The road from Cathcart is not in great condition

Excellent location right on the riverfront, close to all amenities. Beautiful gardens and well kept swimming pool. Loved our recently renovated large room, a suite with an open veranda facing the river. Comfortable beds, electric blankets. Enjoyed the warm fire seated on the comfortable sofa. Stunning scenery and bird life right on our doorstep. Friendly, super efficient, attentive staff. Delicious breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the inn and our time in Hogsback. Waterfalls within easy walking distance of the Inn.

The Historic Hogsback Inn is situated close to a number of restaurants, as well as the Spar mini - market making it very convenient for those who wish to dine out. The restaurant on the property covers a wide variety of meals too, so there is something for everyone, should you wish to dine closer to "home".

The electricity in our room was off during loadshedding, but we were provided with enough wood to keep our room nice and warm. The restaurant is not affected by loadshedding, so we were still able to have a warm meal and make use of WiFi during that time.

Great location and beautiful setting. We were upgraded to one of the newly renovated rooms which was appreciated. Loved the pub and dining room area. Appreciated the friendliness of the staff and the current owner who assisted us with getting our bikes out of the driveway (very muddy and we had Harley-Davidsons which dont enjoy mud and clay). Wish we could have stayed for longer.

The access road from the "main" road down to the hotel's entrance is very slippery when wet (clay). Management were surprised at the price I secured on Booking.com so there was some argy bargy about the price but it was resolved amicably. Just surprised by this is all. Will definitely return.

Clean

The front desk manager, a white lady was rude to staff and shouted at one of the staff members in the kitchen in front of guests at breakfast. She needs to be more aware of how she treats staff especially in front of guests and in private. Her behaviour wasn’t professional at all.

The room was clean.. they have upgraded me... The view from the room was amazing. The sound of the river coming down is so relaxing. A Suite is a must get.

Due to an unforeseen event that happened I had to leave earlier. I was supposed to be there for two nights but ended up only staying one night. . They didn't even accommodate me for not being there.

We stayed here 50 years ago for our honeymoon and we wanted to do the same trip and stay at the same hotel. and what a good decision! We stayed in River Suite 1, called Grande Elm Suite. it is a lovely suite with a large bathroom (lovely bath and shower), own sitting room and large bedroom. The patio is secluded, you have a view and could hear the river flowing. I will go back there in an instant! We loved the friendliness of the staff and enjoyed the food we had there. Thank you for the flowers, champagne and Belgian chocolates (made in Hogsback), it was very thoughtful and a lovely surprise!

We loved our stay

The view from our room overlooked the river and garden area which was absolutely beautiful. The lady at the front desk was very friendly and helpful and really helped to make our stay a memorable one. The supper we ordered was delicious. The room was spacious and the fireplace was an absolute bonus. The bed was very comfy. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the jacuzzi bath. Will definitely stay there again and recommend it as a place to stay in Hogsback

That there was no brochure in the room or at the front desk explaining all what there is to do in the town.

Whats not to like. Totally exceeded what I thought I had paid for. The cosy room and stunning views made me want to stay longer. Staff could not be more helpful or attentive. Do not hesitate to stay at this gem.
