Wakkanai is not big city but Surfeel Hotel Wakkanai is the hotel to stay. Great location. The sea is right in front of you. Just couple of hundreds meters from the train station and the port. It has a big parking lot. All the staff is very helpful and attentive. They explain you everything with details. The breakfast was one of the best that we had it during our travel. There are enough options for every taste. When we visit again, this the hotel we are going to stay!

Nothing to say, maybe rooms could be maintained however it is not a must as it gives another character to the hotel.

I recently stayed at this hotel and had a wonderful experience. The room offered a stunning sea view, which made my stay even more enjoyable. The hotel’s location is excellent, being close to the JR train station, making it very convenient for traveling around the area. Additionally, the bus from the airport can drop off passengers directly at the hotel, which is incredibly convenient for travelers with heavy luggage or those unfamiliar with the area. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the overall service was top-notch. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting the area. It combines comfort, convenience, and a beautiful view all in one place.

Really lovely hotel. We stayed a week. The rooms seaview side are fantastic, views of the sea and breakwater are amazing. Good restaurant, good cafe, with reasonable prices, souvenir shop and one washing machine, bar up on floor 12 very pleasant in the evening. Staff were very nice, especially the cleaning ladies who did a superb clean for us everyday. Beds were comfortable and the rooms were unusually spacious and tastefully decorated. WiFi signal strong and reliable. Nearby is the train station 2 min walk, the Roman breakwater, convenience store, ferry terminal 10 min walk and lots of other shops. We can highly recommend this hotel.

Really nice hotel, must get bay/harbour view which was fantastic.

Breakfast highlighted as American, wasn’t very american and lack of choices and no buffet means you can’t have more of what you like. Lack of options outside of hotel in town means still a good idea to include a breakfast. Staff don’t speak any English, so use an app like google translate, for anything beyond pointing with finger details. We were at most northerly part of Japan though, to be fair and I didn’t see any other westerners, at all in the whole town.

Great location in easy walking distance from JR Wakkanai station. The room had a fantastic view. The facilities were extremely clean and the staff were friendly and accomodating. The size of the room was also large for Japan.

The room did appear a little dated and showed some signs of minor wear but I doubt you would find better in this part of the world.

Surfeel was definitely one of the best parts about our staying in Wakkanai. It is only a three-minute walk from the JR station and a one-minute walk from the shore. You can see the hotel as soon as you get out of the station. The ocean view from the room was amazing and the room was spacious enough that we got to enjoy a nice coffee moment by the window when it was storming outside. The staff was very helpful, and there were English flyers in the lobby on transportation and other info. Would definitely choose Surfeel again！

Excellent breakfast with western choices, friendly professional staff, big quiet room with a great view, close to the JR station and the port for catching ferries to Rishiri and Rebun island. Meals in the restaurant were delicious and very affordable. Our room was spotlessly clean. Highly recommend staying here.

Only one washing machine which was busy all the time.

I especially liked the fact that the facilities were well maintained and clean though the hotel was probably a bit dated, everything was working and kept clean. Unlike other hotels I've used in Japan, the rooms here are big and offers the guests a lot of space.

The food served in the Ann-on restaurant was really good. A bigger space would help to immediately accommodate guests. Perhaps we arrived off-season as the other restaurants in the hotel are closed.

I had unexpected room upgrade I think. From singe to double, but since I travelled alone I didn't see any benefit in it. Room was huge for Japanese standards, everything seemed posh and it was nice to have a place where I could park my car. First bath I could almost stretch my legs in Japan, definitely kudos for that! Also first room in Japan that didn't seem too cramped. So for me it exceeded expectations.

As expected this price for 4* hotel, something must be off. And for me, it kinda was. It might be because I stayed at more modern hotels, but this one is like travel few years back. For example it uses cards, but only to unlock the door, normally you'd have to slide them to get electricity which would also limit usage of it and also remind you to take it with you. Or that I didn't find single usb or usb-c port to charge anything. Also for me personally as a tall person, end of the mattress was too hard.

Very close to the train station and ferry terminal to Rebun and Rishiri islands. The breakfast starts at 5:00am which is very convenient for those who want to take 6:30am ferry. We could leave our luggage at the hotel before and after checking in. Helpful staff.

I've requested a sea view room at high floor when I did booking. But we got a mountain view room at low floor.
