The Airways is my hotel of choice in Port Moresby. It's very convenient for the airport and for working with agencies who are based near the airport. Staff are consistently friendly and try and be helpful. The property is spectacular with a very spacious vibe - the bookcases, reading and lounge areas lend a real air of relaxation, and the gym in the complex is useful. The rooms (I've had a few) range from nice to spectacular. Meals are excellent by PNG standards. Also, a special note about the business centre - I've often gone to them with short notice printing requests and they are very helpful with doing reasonable printing for no extra charge. Working in PNG can feel a bit suffocating if your employer does not allow you to travel without security, so the roomy Airways is great in that context.

The hotel has a number of young staff who are still learning on the job - I think that some of them are hospitality students. Sometimes that makes for interesting situations, but I've also found that patience and a smile is a good way to manage through. The menu could perhaps do with a refresh and some of the menu options could be rethought - for example the pizzas are huge and very carb-loaded but not particularly nice - it could be worth looking at what expectations might be like for gourmet pizzas in Australia and trying to match that. Some more cereal and fruit options for breakfast would be nice, including anything that featured PNG produce.

cleanliness of hotel, proximity to airport, transport from and to airport, friendliness and helpfulness of staff. The restaurant overlooking the airport is a pleasure to eat in. The food and the variety of food was good.

The only thing wrong with the stay was that the airconditioning seemed to be stuck at 18 degrees Celsius, which is too cold for sleeping, so I had to get up and turn it off during the night. But then the room got too hot for sleeping and I had to get up and turn it on again. I told the front desk, and they sent a person to look at it, but he was unable to fix it, and at the time, earlier in the evening, I didn't realize that it would become so cold during the night, so I didn't ask for a change of room.

There's so much to like about the Airways. Its location above the airport is sensational and they make full use of the views across the runways. The design makes it one of the truly exceptional hotels of the region, with comfortable roomy common spaces to encourage guest interaction and a feeling that you're staying in a giant mansion rather than a hotel. I love the books scattered liberally and attractively everywhere, the airy feel and the aesthetics. The staff are keen to please (although sometimes still learning on the job). The fitness centre has a small lap pool that's cleverly incorporated into the space. The wifi works well. A particular shout-out to the staff in the Business Centre - several times I ran to them with a short notice printing request and a USB, and they cheerfully did it instantly and in colour. Compare that to an equally expensive hotel (starting with H) that we were in for a couple of days, and where I had to send a request by email three times in order to get a poorly printed black and white sheet a couple of hours later - much less fun showing that to a Departmental Secretary the next day.

Only minor quibbles were that the hot water system was on the blink in the older wing, and they were having problems with the lift. Also, while I appreciated an upgrade to a 'loft' room in the new wing late in the stay, I couldn't get the telescope provided focused on anything, let along the planes.

Always consistent quality & top notch service.

For some bizarre reason I was woken up at 5am by hotel staff ringing my doorbell & entering my room. Supposedly a mistake made by reception. Ruined what would have otherwise been a wonderful nights sleep. Buffet breakfast is also looking a little tired... still great by PNG standards, but not so good my previous stays over the years.

the quietness and the well-furnished shared spaces. the bar and restaurant staff were very friendly. the transportation when i needed to go out of the hotel, the guys were very helpful and punctual with their service.

my access card at one stage did not allow me to get into my floor, so i had to come down to the reception again and waited for quite a while before i got served. (there was a group ahead of me that was checking in so i had to wait to get served and my access card to be activated again)

Consistent quality & service - never disappoints. Not the cheapest but always delivers on service & will continue to be my first choice for accommodation in Port Moresby.

Slight jumble with our rooms meant that our family of 6 (2 adults + 4 young children) had to be split between 2 rooms on 2 separate floors. Breakfast buffet also starting to look a little tired.

The complex very clean and the room were well air conditioned, the staff were friendly and attentive at all times.

We arrived and our rooms were not ready, there are only a few international flights per day in and out of POM so it would be nice to coordinate room availability to fight arrivals.

A luxurious hotel in Port Moresby. Incredible buffet meals in the open restaurant overlooking the hills. Fresh coconut for breakfast. Onsite gym. Safe and secure, and pleasant grounds for a walk or short run.

The location is the draw card not so much for the proximity to the airport but view and open feel. Tip take the stairs instead of lift to get some steps in.

Rooms are old and need a full Reno for the money they don’t match the standard of the rest of the hotel standard

Excellent location near the airport with efficient air conditioned shuttle. Great amenities including pool, fitness centre and multiple eating options. Beds are comfortable with high pressure shower. Polite and helpful staff who were flexible with bookings to accommodate postponed flights.
