Such lovely and helpful staff (especially Martin and Roberta) who assisted with booking travel for to our next destination and gave great restaurant recommendations, the location was great (literally two minutes away from the National Art Gallery of Bologna and a simple and straightforward walk to the main square) and we felt safe in the surrounding areas which was NOT crowded/busy/noisy in the evenings (which is not always the case if you stay right in the centre). Bathroom and room were very clean and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was delicious with several options, prepared by the lovely Manuela who was also extremely welcoming.

TV a little small but not really a negative, just a preference!

We have stayed at the Casa bertagni many times. We return because the property is so lovely and the owner, Guido is so welcoming. This is a beautiful old home tastefully and interestingly updated for comfort and visual appeal. The rooms are large and well designed, the breakfast is varied and reflective of the care put into every aspect of staying here. It is in a quiet area of the city and an easy walk to the center. If you like to walk it is a 10-15 minute walk to the central train station to catch the train for day trips to the surrounding towns. We recommend it highly!

We enjoyed the location of the Casa Bertagni in the university sector of the city and around the corner from the national art gallery and many excellent restaurants. The hotel and our room was full of innovative and whimsical artistic touches which made the Casa a delightful place to explore. But best of all was the superb staff who made our visit a pure joy. Our greeting from Giulio at reception was beyond what we could have imagined...he was so kind, human and informative. The delightful breakfast hostess has a heart of gold and took the extra steps to ensure we enjoyed our meal. The owner was equally charming and welcoming and took tremendous pride in his boutique hotel. We would return anytime we visit Bologna in the future.

The spaces were beautifully and uniquely appointed. Our room was very comfortable and nicely decorated. The two people we dealt with - the owner and one other - were lovely and very helpful. We felt very welcome!

We felt uncomfortable that we could not reach anyone a few times during our stay when we had questions and leading up to our stay the communication was not consistent. Not having the confidence that we could reach someone should we have a problem like a lost key was a concern that might keep us from staying there again. Otherwise, it was an amazing spot!

We absolutely loved our greeting on arrival and the ongoing attention to our well being. They also organised some washing for us which we were really grateful for. Breakfast was outstanding and one of the best on a trip away. The villa is gorgeous and we felt like we were in Italy not just a motel room. Our room was quirky with a fabulous sense of style. Easy walking distance to the centre but away enough to be quiet. Really lovely eating places nearby. Thankyou to you all at Casa Bertagni.

All the staff were very friendly, accommodating and helpful. Breakfast was a very special treat! Excellent variety of interesting food. Lovingly prepared and presented. My room was comfortable, clean and quirky. Casa Bertagni was quite delightful in every aspect. I enjoyed my stay and felt safe whilst at the Casa.

The shower leaked and was in need of maintenance.

Charming hosts who helped us e.g. with restaurant bookings and recommendations. Great central location with facilities (including art gallery) within walking distance, but quiet nevertheless. An elegantly and artistically furnished, but homely, place to stay.

From the warm welcome to checking out, this place was perfect . The owner is lovely, warm and welcoming and so were the staff and they take pride in what they do and it shows . The room was perfect and every detail was thought out perfectly from extra high end towels to the high end toiletries. Everything was spot on! They checked in to make sure we enjoyed the dinner they booked for us and checked in to see if we needed anything . The attention to detail in terms of room quality , breakfast and staff anticipating your needs exceeds any fairmont or four seasons anywhere . Will definitely recommend to friends and family and will be back.

Nothing you’re perfect

The room was spacious and decorated by interesting antiques and clever artistry. It was in a great location to be walkably near everything you'll likely want to see and good places to eat. Breakfast was nicely presented with many options. The staff were very nice and helpful, making reservations for us as we had asked in advance.

I stayed at Casa Bertagni in June 2022. It was my fifth trip to Italy. On previous trips, I concentrated on the most popular tourist locations, such as Rome, Florence, Venice, Amalfi, and the Cinque Terre. On my fifth trip, I concentrated on locations that are less popular with tourists, such as Ravenna, Padova, and Bologna. If you have never been to Italy, skip Bologna and go to Rome, Florence, Amalfi, etc. Then book another trip to Italy and include Bologna in the itinerary. Bologna is magical. It is one of the most beautiful and interesting cities in all of Italy. True, it doesn't have the amount of sites as Rome or Florence, but that's ok. You don't visit Iceland in the same way that you visit Singapore, and you don't visit Bologna in the same way that you visit Rome or Florence. There are definitely some interesting historical sights in Bologna, but in many ways the city of Bologna itself is the attraction. The colors and the architecture of the city are incredible. The food is some of the best in Italy. And the people are great (as they are all over Italy). You could easily spend a few days here simply walking the city, taking in a few historical sights, and experiencing the culture. If you decide to go to Bologna, you should definitely stay at Casa Bertagni. The location is perfect for exploring the city. Moreover, the staff is incredible. And the rooms are clean and interesting. It's also quiet, so that you can get a good night's sleep. And it's inexpensive. I have stayed at dozens of hotels and B&Bs in Italy over the years, and Casa Bertagni stands out as one of the very best. I can't wait to return and spend more time in this amazing city. So, go to Bologna, and stay at Casa Bertagni. (One final tip for visiting Bologna: research restaurants in advance and make sure that the ones that you want to try will be open on the days that you are in town.)
