Great location, just over the road from the greyhound stop and the kuranda scenic railway. Walking distance to the port and bars. Very clean and very well organised hostel. Great kitchen space and storage options for guests. Launderette, clothes line, work space, pool and loungers, lots of bathroom space, fairly good sized rooms. I liked that there was a real mix of travelers, young couples, older couples, solo travelers, groups etc.

Beds were a little uncomfortable especially on the top bunks as the steps up are hard on the feet and the bed frames a bit creaky. Individual lights would have been super and curtains are always a great addition so that one person can read without awakening the rest of the dorm. The social activities could really be better, it felt a bit of a box ticking exercise as they were listed but not much effort put into running them. Would have been good if staff tried to get people involved and if staff could stick around to get them set up. These are minor things though, on the whole a clean, safe, friendly environment. Staff were polite and helpful.

The location and room are clean and tidy. I shared a room with three more people. I am satisfied with my stay at YHA. Housekeeping staff work up to the level to maintain the place. Kitchen maintenance needs special mention. Staff and visitors are together maintaining it well, making it good for public usage.

The electric socket to charge my mobile or laptop is far from my bed(Although it is helpful for my sleep); I couldn't iron my clothes either. The room itself is too small to do any other work except sleep. The rules and other facilities that we can use during the stay could have been displayed or communicated well to the visitor.

Location is excellent and opposite the major shopping centre “Cairns Central”. Easy walking distance to the Casino - Lagoon - Night Markets - Library - Reef Terminal and Rusty’s Market. Kitchen and cooking facilities are awesome with loads of fridge space and cook tops. The community shelf for all to share and enjoy is an excellent idea. Swimming pool a relaxing place to rest and soak up the Queensland sun. The friendliness and helpfulness of the reception and housekeeping staff is what makes a great place home away from home.

What is there not to like, travel is about both positive and negative experiences.

Very clean and comfortable hostel. Kitchen is big with lots of storage room. Bathrooms are very clean too. Staff are really friendly and help you with everything you need. Rooms are big and comfortable and the hostel has a good laundry room with enough washers. It's very close to supermarkets, a shopping centre and the train station/ greyhound station however a 15-20min walk away from the harbour/ esplanade.

There were only 4 lockers in a 6 bed dorm room which wasn't optimal and unfortunately no curtains on the beds.

Very close to the Cairns Station. The shopping mall Cairns Central and the two biggest Australian supermarkets are just stone throw's away. Very helpful and welcoming staff. A well-developed big kitchen opening 24 hours. Outdoor desks, swimming pools. Overall a very holiday resort feel. Free air conditioning.

No socket nears the bed. All sockets are centralised in a single location of my room. No reading light for each bed. From the reception to my room, I need to walk up an uncovered staircase, which is not convenient when it is raining. Mediocre breakfast. Don't expect any ham, bacon, sausage, cheese etc for AUD14. And you are only served with instant coffee powder. Fortunately, you can decide on the spot before you pay.

The common spaces were nice with a pool, laundry, and outdoor sitting spots. Our private room with an en suite bath was comfy. We were out and about quite a bit so didn’t socialize much but the folks we talked to were kind. The staff were really helpful, especially about recommendations for the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest. The location was nice - walking distance to all the attractions but fast enough away from them for a good night’s sleep.

The kitchen wasn’t very tidy. I recognize it’s tricky in hostels where people are supposed to clean up after themselves, but it didn’t seem like a good precedent had been set.

Long walk outside to toilet / showers Toilets SUPER hot and humid (I know its carins but more ventilation would have been nice) The Non-Stick pans need binning, scratched to death and Teflon flaking off into food. Get some normal frying pans. No plugs / lights beside bed and only 4 sockets for an 8 bed dorm.

I love YHA Cairns Central very much. This time I stayed in a 10 bed mixed gender room . There is enough space in the room and there is a locker for everyone. The backpacker hostel has a swimming pool, spa pool and lounge chairs, which is very relaxing. The kitchen and toilet are also large and clean, and there is no need to queue.The location is really good.Just opposite central. Shopping and purchasing are very convenient. There are many restaurants and cafes nearby. 15 minutes walk to the beach and lagoon.

A perfekt place for backpackers, with everything you need; bathroom, washing room for laundry, kitchen, drinking water, bathroom . Nice location, very close to shops and restaurants and just a small walk from town center.

The bathroom has bad ventilation and no option to air out. Also it was unclear whether a bed was ready for a new person or not because the bed had small stones and sand in it. Also because we were not asked to take the sheet of the blanket, does that mean it wasn’t cleaned before me?

Nice location, basically close to everything that you need as a tourist. Bed was comfortable and A/C was strong enough for humid summer. Providing a towel and sunblock for free is a nice bonus. Pool in the hostel was great for sunbathing and swimming. Staff are friendly and solid. Common areas were generally clean and the kitchen has spacious fridges so your grocery bags wouldn’t be jammed among a bunch of other stuff.

The door of my room made bizarre sound whenever we open/close it so bothered the sleep. Think it needs to be greased. And both the website and staff never mentioned that alcohol consumption is not allowed in the hostel. I didn’t have any idea and when I brought the wine bottle, the staff brought it out from me and didn’t give it back. Wish someone would’ve mentioned before so could prevent potential hassles.
