Andrea, the owner of the Ostello, is wonderful. He is helpful, responsive, sweet and overall makes the stay a great one. The hotel is charming and cozy, rooms and bathrooms are a nice size, beds are comfy, buffet breakfast is lovely and filling (he got us boiled eggs as well since we asked about eggs), the terrace is gorgeous. Could have spent more time here :)
The only thing to be aware of is that the path from the train station to the Ostello is largely cobblestoned and there are no Ubers (small town). It takes 15 mins or so to walk there with a bit of a slope. Try to arrange a taxi via the hotel beforehand (we learnt and did this on the way out). The bathroom has limited toiletries, we had brought what we needed so wasn't a problem.

We could not have asked for a better hotel experience. It was the most charming, truly authentic Italian experience you could imagine - like out of a Hallmark Christmas movie. The hotel amenities were updated and new - very clean and well kept, but at the same time the actual hotel building is centuries old and the owners have done an amazing job at keeping all of the historic charm intact. The stone walls and wood beams... and the way the hotel lobby is decorated all lend themselves to feeling like you are stepping back in time (in a good way). The rooms had big shutters that would swing open into the courtyard (that the owners set up for outdoor activities like basketball) and also allowed views of the charming porches/walkways outside of each floor that were decorated with lights and festive charm. AND - as if all of that were not enough, the owner showed up how to go up onto the rooftop terrace and then walk up the side of the mountain for sweeping views of the town below, the alps, and the stars. It was truly amazing - all of it! The breakfast served downstairs was complete (cheeses and meats, pastries, cereals, yogurts, juices) and they had a full coffee bar where he would make you as many individual cappuccinos (or other coffee drinks) that you could want. The service was remarkable and Andrea made you feel like you were old friends he was hosting. I also have to say something about the location - prime! Easy walking to to the train station (Bernina Express to The Swiss Alps!), shopping, churches, winery and fabulous Italian restaurants - and you got to all of that by walking from the hotel through the cozy network of street passageways that would open up to fountains, and wine bars, and all other sorts of treats for the eyes. We were only there one night and a part of a day and wish we had booked it for longer. A true gem of place!
Nothing! We truly loved it ALL!

The building and grounds are gorgeous. I believe the owner, Andrea, said this was a 14th century building. Andrea was so friendly and welcoming. He gave us dining recommendations and chatted with us during breakfast telling us the history of the building and his experience as the owner. He has blended the old and the new seamlessly to create a warm and welcoming stay. The beds were super comfy. Breakfast was delicious and was served in the old stable which has been beautifully reinvented. The hotel was about a 10 minute walk from the train station and set at the edge of town so it backed to a hillside and some woods so it felt very private though very close to all the town had to offer.
There is no air conditioning and it was a hot summer night. But we were able to leave the windows/doors open and there were fans so we all slept quite well. So, in the end I'm not sure I would say I didn't like it. I really enjoyed the fresh air. But some people might really want air conditioning (but we found this hard to find across our whole visit to Switzerland and Italy).

We stayed as a family. Although the place itself is from the 6th century, the interior is very new, clean and tastefully furnished. Inside there are small and large trinkets, toys and many handmade details. Although it was in the middle of nature, there were no insects inside. There were insect repellent products similar to mothballs placed in beautifully embroidered handmade cloths that were hard to notice. The breakfast was prepared in very nice containers. Andrea is a very gentlemanly and friendly person. I can say that he is one of the best, if not the best, hotel manager I have ever encountered. The view from the terrace looks great, be sure to take a look. In summary, I and my family left very happy.
The only missing part is the hotel's parking lot 150 m ahead.

We stumbled across this hotel when I was looking for a place to stay after our chur-tirano scenic train ride on the bernina express. I LOVED everything about this property. I felt like I had arrived at a family members home and was visiting family. I was welcomed with a warm greeting from the owner, Andrea. The hotel is absolutely beautiful with a breath taking terrace view of the Tirano city and surrounding areas. Andrea helped us and our little one year old get comfortable during our short stay, he showed us where she could play and where he kept the family games and kid toys. The rooms were very spacious, clean, and comfortable. The lobby, sitting areas, terrace, and everything else were so cozy. Breakfast was a lovely feast, it was so delicious and the coffee machine is a beast! If you are considering this hotel verses any other hotel in Tirano, choose this one! It’s the best way to start your journey through Italy. There is a laundry place 10 min away should you need it, the property also offers a shuttle service from the train station but if you are able to walk, it’s just a 10-12 min walk. There is also a super charming restaurant right around the corner that offers delicious authentic Italian food.
I loved everything

A hidden gem ! The location is in a lovely quiet part of the old town and a short walk to restaurants, etc. The hotel has been renovated and restored to an amazing level and it’s a lovely place to be, with lots of little interior details, as well as the outside terrace area. The room was cozy with a very nice bathroom - the room did get a tad warm as the temperatures were very high, but there was a fan to help cool things a bit. Breakfast was lovely with nice options and Andrea went out of his way to provide options like cold meats and cheese. But the real plus is the owner, Andrea - he really did make the stay special and was a super host ! Thank you Andrea !! Stay here - you won’t be disappointed !!
Nothing !

This is a very charming property converted from centuries old house that has view of the mountains from the roof top. Andrea was very friendly and helpful. The reception is decorated so beautifully and the exterior of the is so charming that it makes you smile. We had a room where we could get the view of the mountain from right outside through a passage between the buildings which was an added bonus.
It’s a bit hidden so difficult to find if you arrive at night like we did.

Cute little property in Tirano. The owner was super helpful - he even helped me carry my bag upstairs, and showed the various views of Tirano from the property.
It is a bit of a walk from the Swiss station so European cobbled streets make it arduous to drag bags including carry ons. But otherwise it is close to some restaurants. The concept of breakfast in Italy is very different than rest of the world so keep your expectations low in this department overall in Tirano.

Dear Andrea We used a lot of time to plan our trip to Tirano for a trip with the Bernina Express. We enjoyed the trip with Bernina Express, but the stay at your place made the top of the ice cake 🥰 To find a place with so much kindness and warm is hard to find, we enjoyed 110% Your place is what my wife call “Very authentic”, we loved it❤ We both look forward to come back, then we’ll bring the rest of the family, maybe we have to rent the whole place 😉 All the best and warm regards Ib and Marianne

It was a beautiful, historic building. Brought back to life by the family who owned it as very best place to stay in Tirano. It is in the old town and parts date back 600 years. We breakfasted in the stables under the stone arches in a charming, bright room. Breakfast, needless to stay was excellent, with real Italian coffee. The new structures in traditional timber were perfect and gave an authentic atmosphere. Our host, Andrea, was charming and very helpful. The town is romantic wonderland of great historic significance, enhanced by a stay in this delightful hotel.
There is nothing to dislike. The only problem was, we could not stay longer! If perfection exists, this is it!
