Real Review: The Grand-Old World front porch hotel is a dying breed. There are not many of these left. This is one of them, and its over 100 years old. You have a front porch for cocktails (great), a large lobby with high ceilings, original architecture, and oversize chairs in front of a working fireplace (fabulous). There is a cozy bar, a modern pool, and the staff is very efficient and friendly, if somewhat less than polished. (all good). Sitting in the lobby as guests come and go, while reading a newspaper with a cup of coffee (free) or playing checkers is a "calm and comfort" not found in today's chain affiliated hotels. The beds were comfortable, and the room with 2 queen beds were ample size-much larger than you get in a modern chain hotel. The room was quiet. The towels and sheets were of good quality. The evening cocktails on the deck (sweater weather) were a high point, and the bar has a surprisingly good selection of cocktails, even though its a bit pricey for a rather small drink. Dinner menu was standard American fare, and the service was great. Served hot with fresh vegetables and home made sauces, but lacking the zest of a finer restaurant. Overall, a good experience at a good price
Keeping up a grand hotel must cost a fortune. And keeping up a 100 year old grand hotel must cost even more. The bathroom in the room is small, and the fixtures, although clean, are old and dated. The room smelled a bit musty, and needed some air. Breakfast was very good with full portions, but the morning breakfast room is sterile, cold and loud. Just general upkeep was a bit off: soiled carpets, some repainting needed, outdoor shuffleboard in need of a refinish and repaint. Long hallways and passageways to the rooms are a bit confining. None of this is necessarily bad, just what you expect from an older hotel.

Great hotel with an exceptional restaurant in an area where both are hard to find. The food at the Veranda restaurant, as well as the breakfast at the café was truly amazing, honestly didn't expect that in this area. Loved the ample on-site parking and the lovely deck with an amazing view to watch the sun set over the valley below (we did so with a wonderful cocktail in hand, prepared by an expert bartender of the Wunderbar). Great stay!
Wish the room had more outlets for phone charging, and a mini fridge in the room would have been very much appreciated as well.

Beautiful old in, loved all the history, comfortable old decor. Good looking front porch where dinner was served with music on Friday night. Great looking pools, 1 inside and one outside with a large jacuzzi.
There is no elevator and a lot of steps to get to your room. The band that played the music on Friday night was too loud. It was hard to hear each other talking.

The location was great and the lobby was very warm and inviting. The pool and hot tub looked great but we didn't get a chance to try it. Next time.
We were there with family and had two rooms. One of the rooms smelled very musty, the other was fine. The beds weren't the most comfy - mattress was a little bouncy.

Food was great, staff was courteous and friendly, very helpful and room was clean. Enjoyed learning about the history of the place and just sitting by the fireplace and enjoying the beautiful view from the porch. Could you tell us a little more? What did you like?

Food, service and staff were excellent. Location a plus.
No refrigerator in room a real inconvenience. Outdoor pool needs some landscape additions to block view/sounds from highway. On arrival, found used, wet washcloth in bathroom.

The beautiful property and view. The cleanliness but the character and homage to the heritage of the property is gorgeous.
No fridge in the room and ice was locked up when we went to get some at 9pm.

It's all about the Chram and quirkiness. Don't expect a high end stay here but if you like old places that have character you will enjoy your stay.
You have to upgrade the key system. At least to key cards.

Staff were knowledgeable and professional and friendly! Nice accommodations and we felt at home.
Better power strips in the rooms. We had things to put in and charge but not enough outlets

Good location for us. Lobby, bar, outdoor and common spaces are lovely and historic. It is like stepping back through time.
Rooms are so dated. Clean and functional but that’s it.
