Our traditional room overlooking the garden was absolutely beautiful. The onsen was fantastic! Very clean and as westerners we felt very comfortable using it. The staff coming in to lay out the futons each evening while we were at dinner and then rolling them away each morning while we were at breakfast was a treat. The driver being available to pick us up from and drop us to the train was a great advantage.

There was a very strong smell coming from the mat flooring in our room which we had not experienced when staying in other ryokans. The carpet in the hallway near our room was soggy from a leaking air conditioner. We had to walk past the smoking room and the smell wafting out each time was unpleasant. The air con in our room was very noisy. Luckily the weather was cool and we could turn it off to sleep. When we booked the only option we had was the package with the traditional room including dinner and breakfast. The meals were laid out beautifully, presented like a work of art but unfortunately there was no alternative food if some of the traditional food was not to our liking.

The room was spacious and clean and the futon was very comfortable to sleep on. Quite a couple of different onsen that you can try and both public and private were clean and well-equipped with skincare and amenities. (Private onsen were not free to book, they were 3300-4000 yen per 50 mins.) We had a good variety of food for breakfast and dinner, both of which were delicious and looked amazing. Staff were very helpful and always tried their best to assist us even though they spoke limited English. There is free parking available onsite if you drive.

The interior was a little dated so could do with a refresher and the hotel is a bit isolated so might be hard to get to without a car.

The food (dinner and breakfast) were of highest quality Japanese fair and truly exceeded our expectations. The meals were served by very attentive staff and were a very pleasant experience. The big baths were good but the water temperature was slightly on the low side. Outdoor baths were good.

In our room the living space and the bedroom were separated and the sofas in the living area were not terribly comfortable nor were they conveniently positioned.

Exceptional staff, all of them were highly attentive and kind. Outstanding Japanese dinner and breakfast. Our room was Japanese style, and it was gorgeous. Best hotel experience we had in Japan. 10 out of 10, would go back if visiting the area again.

It’s a pity that tattoos are still a bit of a taboo in onsens, as many Westerners (and other cultures) have them.

Beautiful hotel, we stayed in the japanese room and it was fantastic! also the private onsen was really nice for the kids. The public onsen was big and beautiful. recommended

Ryokan room was massive and very clean. The onsens were very nice and had indoor and outdoor options.

It’s a bit isolated. So there are not many options for food unless you eat at the hotel. We stopped and picked up take away in Nikko.

Excellent Onsen resort. All the staffs are very nice and professional. Me and my family had a wonderful time. Highly recommended. The Food excellent. I've been to many onsen resort in Japan, the food offer in this resort is the best.

Very confortable hotel - 25 mn from Nikko shrines but well worth the distance. Food is very good. Great onsen. Staff was very nice, despite not so good english.
