Beautiful hotel with 2 pools (1 heated to perfection) and restaurant overlooking the ocean. Room was very elegant and spacious but unlike many other hotels these days it was also very practical - hanging space aplenty and lots of drawers - storage space was not sacrificied for the sake of style. The bed, pillows, linen, towels and bathrobes were all of very high quality as were the Africology toiletries. There was a generous policy for the minibar with the initial stock of beer, soft drinks and snacks being complementary. Nice selection of hot a la carte breakfast choices and really great fruit, yoghurt, cheese, cold cuts, etc. Hghly recommended and would love to return.
Restaurant service at both breakfast and dinner was a bit hit and miss. Sometimes excellent, at other times disorganised. All staff were lovely/friendly but it was almost as if there could be too many staff at times, and they didnt know who was serving who, who had placed orders, etc. Just silly things like bread being forgotten, starters arriving at same time as amuse bouche, drinks going to wrong tables. All 21st century problems!! But considering how good the food was, and the fact that everything else about the place was 5 star, it was the only minor let down. Some background music in the restaurant might also help to give a bit of atmosphere.

Superbly located 5-star property with beautiful pools and very friendly staff. The bed was very comfortable and large, and the hotel has plenty of beautiful airy and light sitting areas. The interior of the hotel is attractive with nautical decor throughout. The toiletries in the bathroom were of top quality, sourced from a local producer. The whole atmosphere is simply awesome with views of the ocean everywhere. The restaurant has a variety of dinner options and choices of wine which we enjoyed. The bar is also very welcoming and a great place to enjoy a drink.
The breakfast was a bit chaotic with slow service. The staff in front of the hotel was quite noisy early morning right below our room.

Beautiful property overlooking Plett Central Beach and 5-15 minutes drive from the good restaurants (don't miss Ernesto's Italian) and Robbins Reserve (spectacular coastal site). Very high standard of service, friendly and helpful people to support visitors managing their own activities and experiences along the Garden Route. Great breakfasts cooked to order to supplement their well-stocked buffet of fresh, appealing continental offerings. The rooms are especially graciously designed ("the packed mini fridge drinks - and a bottle of good wine - are all complementary; only refills are charged"), larger than you might expect, and equipped with everything we'd hope for (e.g., USB3 and-C ports, a bigger selection of soaps, lotions, and sprays than most places). This is a true all-the-way to Five Star hotel by any international standard.
The dinner at the Amelia restaurant on site aspires to gourmet ranking and comes close on some dishes, but the service was a bit stiff and, oddly, distractingly obsequious in a country whose people generally interact with the most authentically sincere smiles and friendly connectedness.

This hotel, hands-down, has the best staff I have ever come across. They are all incredibly friendly and helpful and we received excellent service. The hotel itself is gorgeously decorated with beautiful art. The rooms are big, comfortable and clean. Comfortable bed and pillows. The location is perfect. There is a lovely heated pool overlooking the beach for a lazy afternoon in the sun. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
There is no adults-only swimming pool, or area for that matter. Our quiet afternoon by the poolside was abruptly ruined by energetic children who took over the entirety thereof. After being splashed wet, we sadly had to retire to our room for some peace.

The Plettenberg Bay Hotel advertises itself as a five star hotel, and it more than meets that claim. The location is superb, surrounded by mountains, golden sand beaches, with a most welcoming staff, from the meet and greet outside the hotel, the receptionists are amazingly helpful, and a joy to meet. Tastefully furnished with shades of blue reflecting its position overlooking the sea. We spotted several whales from our room, one mum with her calf, dolphins and seals. The bed was super comfortable. The breakfast selection can more than satisfy every ones palates, evening dinner had a wide range of dishes and wines, with attentive service. Yes five star for sure.
A tad expensive, but you get what you pay for.

This is the most beautifully decorated hotel we've ever stayed in …. a real boutique feel. The staff from the greeting at check in and throughout our stay were so friendly and lovely. We had a top floor room with front and side views of the ocean and beach (room 36) …. just wow. On arrival we had in the room a beautifully handwritten card and treats to celebrate our wedding anniversary which was a special touch. The hotel is in a great location in walking distance to the town with shops and restaurants, plus directly on the coastal path. We stayed 5 nights and used it as a central base to visit west to Knysna and east to Tsitsikamma rather than keep changing hotels and it was a delight to return to each day. Breakfast and dinner was great, especially sitting outside looking at the ocean.
The only thing we would have loved would to have had sitting areas outside in the evening specifically for drinks. There is a lovely bar inside the hotel and lounge area, but the seating area outside in the evening is for dining. There is an infinity pool and sun loungers which have beautiful views, but means reduced access areas in the evening. Would be great if the sun loungers could be removed and replaced with tables/chairs for drinking in the evening.

This hotel is FABULOUS ! The quality of the furnishings within the hotel were fantastic and staff attention/service is some of the best I have ever encountered, and I have travelled!
If I had to find any fault which was very difficult, then the hotel could spend a little attention in training bar staff as to how to serve alcohol beverages. I received a Gin & Tonic in the same glass as my husbands beer!!! I ordered I Kir Royale cocktail. There was too much crème de cassis and bubbles very flat that it tasted like blackcurrant cordial. The glass was also decorated with a glazed cherry. Definite no no! Except for these tiny hiccups and this is me attempting to be constructive rather than moan, this 5 star hotel was truly excellent and cannot wait to return.

The Manager Aldo, was the perfect representative that the Plettenberg could ask for. He greeted us with a contagious smile and immediately made us feel welcome and at home. Aldo was always very approachable, upbeat and full of knowledge regarding the best hot spots to visit within the local areas. He went above and beyond what we would expect from a member of staff let alone a Manager! The hotel is spotlessly clean with a variety of great tasting food. Our room was exceptional, it contained everything that we could possibly need and want. We had spectacular views throughout the side and front large floor to ceiling windows/doors. We enjoyed watching a couple of pods of dolphins and a few whales during our short two night stay. We didn’t get to use the infinity pools this time, we ran out of time unfortunately. We will definitely be back!
Everything was perfect!

The location is fantastic with great views over the sea. The staff are always very friendly and helpful and provide an excellent standard of service. The rooms are well equipped and stylishly decorated. It’s lovely being able to sit outside having breakfast and dinner overlooking the ocean. You can even spot dolphins from the swimming pools. The food is very good + tasty with lots of fresh fish on the menu.
It’s a tough place to leave!

The views outside our suite must be unparalleled. We had bright sunny, if somewhat chilly, weather that emphasized the jaw-dropping beauty of the waves coming into Lookout Beach. It really is glorious. The staff were very quick to help us deal with our trailer (this was a break during our camping trip) and were always friendly, helpful and informative. After a bracing swim and body-surfing at Lookout, we spent a delicious half-hour warming up in their heated pool across the road continuing to drink in the lovely sea views. The restaurant serves delicious meals in the evening, one of which we shared with old friends who happened to be visiting Plett at the same time. The breakfasts were superb, with lots of variety to suit anyone's taste and allowing us as ever to enjoy the blue skies and seas, even from an inside table. The beds were sumptuous and the room was tastefully tastefully decorated. This really is a high class establishment that has attracted a strong interest from international visitors. It certainly deserves every bit of the high reputation it has built up and made the most of its almost unique position.
Only that we were unable to extend our stay because so many other people obviously know about this place (jokes!)...nothing to complain about.
