The Olympic Club has lived many lives, starting out as a speakeasy, gambling den with a brothel upstairs. Other places would try to whitewash away that kind of past, but McMenamins has celebrated that past with text around the walls and maintained the funky atmosphere, while becoming perhaps more sedate. The room was comfortable, with a good bed and quiet heating. The comfy bathrobes made it easy to visit the toilets and showers - plenty of space available. The whole facility includes a movie theater, and a full-service restaurant downstairs.
I didn't take the complementary ear-plugs to help with the train noise, perhaps I should have. If you are unsettled with the scruffy past of logging towns, this may not be the place for you.

Cozy cozy and more cozy! This place is beautiful I wish we were staying longer just to soak it all in. We just randomly checked hotels in the area it popped up and I’m so glad we stayed. This building is so historical and the McMenamins really made her shine. Didn’t even mind having a separate bathroom. There are 3 or 4 with full showers and two with just toilets. Very comfortable. They have water and coffee by the stairs. Rooms are beautiful and so cozy. Now we are about to grab breakfast downstairs. Love this place.
Nothing I loved all of it. I’d definitely stay again.

Vintage charm, friendly staff, and the relaxed vibes. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom facilities clean. In reading reviews about train noise we were initially concerned but the sound is muted and didn't disrupt sleep at all. In fact, the only real noise is minimal and is from foot traffic in the halls on the way from room to bathroom. The bar on the first floor was great. We enjoyed a late night drink and dessert and then the next morning we played shuffleboard and a competitive game of pool. We really enjoyed our stay and everything the hotel had to offer.
The steep stairs up to the rooms were challenging for my senior citizen mom but otherwise, everything was great.

My 10 year old and I stayed here after a daypass at the water park at Great Wolf Lodge (GWL) and was only about a 15 minute drive away. It cost literally a fraction of what it would have cost to get a room at GWL, and had tons of character. We spent a couple hours playing shuffle board and taught him to play pool. Food was great. We got in free to their movie theater. Bed was super comfy, bathrooms great. Loved all the hanging plants everywhere in the restaurant and bar.
The building is very hold and historic (we loved that) but the pipes in the bathroom screeched for long periods of time. Other than that, all good.

This place has an amazing vibe, takes you right back to the early 1900s. The food is amazing, high quality ingredients and very little wait time for your meal, the drinks are high quality as well. I recommend the blackberry cider. It was my favorite. I will be staying there again, the staff care about everything that goes into you having a wonderful stay, very knowledgeable about the history of the building and are willing to accommodate at any reasonable expense. I can not say enough great things about this place, go see for yourself! I guarantee you won't be disappointed

Right downtown and close to train station. Walkable and safe. Room was comfortable and bed was excellent. No mention of no tv in room. Did mention ear plugs for train noise but I found the whistles strangely comforting. Wish I couldn’t have heard the next door neighbors
Brochure didn’t mention the 26 steps of stairs to get to the rooms. Also didn’t state where bathrooms were located. I only saw one in my hall which was occupied most of the time. Others were just around the corner. Didn’t tell what movies were playing.

I love this place. It is true to it's roots...which go back more than a century. The walls are thin, the bathrooms are down the hall. But it is clean and very different from the modern alternatives. I enjoyed the different experience this wonderful old place offers.
As I said, the walls are thin. How does the song go? "The couple in the next room are bound to win a prize...they've going at it all night long..." (tip of the hat to Paul Simon). They didn't go at it all night...only about 1/2 hour...but still.

So I'll admit I've stayed at McMenamins venues in the States before. This place was well up to the mark, with quaint and funky rooms, sling with great staff and food. The rooms were decent sized and certainly very on trend. Bathrooms clean and spacious, although some will not appreciate the walk down the corridor to "the crapper". Food and facilities were top notch, Nd a great range of beers on site. Best value hotel of my trip, and best place to stay in this town.
So, there's no way to hide it, if you don't like trains then ask for a room facing the main street. But if you live trains then room 12 gets you the sights (and sounds) of a busy freight line. I'm fine with that. Others might not. Spelling mistake on my wall mural!

Spent a lovely evening watching a movie in their theater (check out the porcelain in the gents there!) and then grabbing a freshly cooked pizza and hard cider in the restaurant. The room was fine and the shared bathrooms were good too, bearing in mind that the building is old and historic!
Though it didn't bother us, the train klaxon at the close-by station is pretty loud -- there are earplugs in the bedside drawer if you want.

Everything was good
Two things: The walls are quite thin, and we could hear everything from the hallway, which made it hard to sleep. Unfortunately, our room was right across from the bathroom, so the noise from people showering in the morning was pretty disruptive. Additionally, the property is located near a train station, and the sound of passing trains was quite loud. If you’re a light sleeper, it might be tough to get rest here.
