This is a very old hotel, we were expecting the worst! The main hallway is not a good entrance to the experience ( old dirty carpet) but once in our room(s) we were all very happy with the cleanliness and the beds were SOOO comfortable and clean

Breakfast was fine for the type it was. Our group was there for an interment in the family plot, and no one was currently living in Goderich. No arrangement had been made by anyone in the family to have 30 or so together for lunch after the service. The afternoon before the service asked the owner if we could use the breakfast room for this purpose and he agreed, but pointed out that the service would be slow due to serving the patio and bar customers as well. It was slow, but with such short notice we at least were able to be in a private room and visit since some folks had come from far distances. Hopefully in future these folks will remember to consider that having lunch for large groups on holiday weekends in a tourist town takes planning far, far ahead! One possibility that would perhaps have made serving so many meals more quickly might have been to offer a limited menu of half a dozen items rather than the full menu. This is definitely not a criticism of the service, merely a possible suggestion for the future should some other group be dumb enough to forget planning lunch. Our waitress was great!

On the part of the hotel? Nothing, except possibly bellboys to carry up some of the luggage. Most of us are seniors and not as quick as we used to be. This would not include the carrying up of the actual guest, as one cousin would have liked.

The breakfast had a number of good choices and the room was pleasant. The hotel lobby with the impressive staircase caught our attention. We enjoyed an excellent fish and chip dinner in Paddy's pub. The location was an unexpected bonus being in the center of Goderich and across from the Courthouse Square. So it was close to a number of shops. The Square was very attractive and relaxing in the vegetation. On Friday night we enjoyed a concert by the Huron County Honors Band and the Saturday morning Farmers Market was great. We enjoyed the variety of vendors and enjoyed some delicious local raspberries and apple cider and purchased a lovely tea towel and a baby sleeper and bib.

Some aspects of the hotel could be updated such as the rugs on the stairs. We were not able to open the windows in our room.

We loved the location, it was in the centre of all the activity. The history of this beautiful building intrigues me, I will be looking it up. The price was the best in the area.

The rooms are very outdated, but they were clean. My husband has mobility issues, and we found the three flights of stairs challenging. I wish that while booking thru booking.com that piece of info had come up. My fault for assuming there would be an elevator, but maybe that question “ do you have any handicaps “ should be added to the check in process.

the room was quaint and comfy and quiet. The restaurant below has more than ample space and the food is good and prices are reasonable.

For breakfast, it was sparse. they ran out of juice. Nobody came to check the supplies and more people came in after we did. It would have been nice if they had a bit of fruit or yogurt. I mentioned to the check in staff when we were leaving that the toilet seat in our room was very wobbly, I had to hold it while i sat. I tried to tighten the fasteners , but i could not. There was also mold/mildew on the shower wall which i also mentioned to staff when we left..

Great location. Right on CourthouseSquare which is the centre of the old town. Walking distance to some very good restaurants and shops. It’s an old worldly hotel which I like. Many former guests have commented on the faded glory of the place, but it still has it’s charm. I’d guess it was built in the 1880’s (?). Rooms are very clean, the bed comfortable and air conditioning. There provide a morning breakfast with great coffee until 11am. If you just want to grab a coffee and drink in your room or to go, no problem, they provide paper cups with lids. There’s also a bar and restaurant below with live music on the Friday/ Saturday we were there. Fun way to finish the evening.

Some reviews complain about the lack of an elevator as there are three floors. For people with mobility issues this would be a problem. Otherwise no big deal, especially if you’re on the second floor. The front desk service is minimal, but that’s reflected in the price.

Well located, spacious, well lit, great stairways with wide steps. No bed bugs, or any bugs, AC worked very well on a hot July 1st.

What they called continental breakfast was only some bagels and bread, muffins, yogurt, butter, cream cheese, maybe something else but all unattended and processed. No omelettes or even eggs, for example. The coffee and the orange juice were very low quality, we went straight and on a rush to Tim Hortons. The breakfast room is gorgeous, I give then that. The suite smelled a little wet and enclosed when we entered but I think the AC helped get over it. Didn’t really bother us ultimately. I would stay there again.

The location was the reason we chose to stay here. Everything was just fine during our time in the hotel.

Can't really think of anything.

Great historical place, centrally located. Irish Pub on the ground floor.

No kettle, no coffee machine, no cups. No soundproofing. Literary paper walls. With fully empty hotel (and obviously considering mentioned soundproofing situation) we have neighbor behind the wall watching TV all evening till late night and starting from early morning… To continue on the staff issue - delays at checkin. obviously hotel guests are not in priority. At breakfast terrible coffee, no tea, no hot water.

Breakfast, though self-serve, was more than adequate for what we like. Room was spacious, king-size bed very comfortable, and the bathroom had a full-size tub, which is a luxury in hotels these days. We were able to park right in front of the hotel door. The Bedford is well situated at the heart of Goderich.

There was no elevator, and we had to climb two long staircases to get to our room. Staff did not offer to help with carrying our luggage. The hotel was very quiet with few visitors, which could be seen as a plus or a minus.
