We had the Family Rom for 2 nights and the room is really good. We chose this room as we wanted our own bathroom. The room has twin beds and a upper bed too as also foldable beds, I think there can sleep 5 or 6 people. As we had problems with the car we arrived quite late and hoped the owner would wait for us (we messaged) and they were there and we even could get some dinner. We were very thankful about that. Breakfast was good, its served in the restaurant. As we liked the food in the restaurant it was sad for us that we stayed there while restaurant was closed on the second day - as far as I know they are closed for 2 days in the week.

This has nothing to do with the Hotel or the restaurant but be aware that it can be hard getting dinner somewhere when the restaurant is closed.

-The entire place (room, bathroom, etc) was immaculately clean and well-maintained - Bed was comfy, there was an extra comforter as well as heater in-room - Host was amazingly helpful, took the time to answer all my questions and mark things on the map for me - While it was on the opposite end of town as Okunoin, it was still close to a bunch of other important sites as well as the bus stop and convenience store, should you choose to use it. If not, it doesn't take that long to get across town anyway.

They lock down by a certain hour. While that's not a big deal since there's really no need to be out late in this town, sometimes I like to take later showers (past 10pm).

Super friendly staff, they were good at trying to communicate with those who couldn't speak Japanese, loads of English written explanations if you need them. Warm and comfy rooms. Slightly set back from the most touristy part of the town which I liked. It's all so close anyway that it really isn't a bother.

This is barely even a problem but I had trouble figuring out which of the 3 doors the entrance and had to call them, which was a tad embarrassing. If it hadn't been heavily snowing I imagine this wouldn't have been an issue...

Staying in Koyasan for New Year's Eve was a truly magical experience. The opportunity to witness the solemn prayer ceremony and hear the deep, resonant tones of the temple bell in such a sacred setting was truly unforgettable. The serene ambiance of the temple enveloped me, offering a sense of tranquility and peace that made time seem to stand still. For those seeking a unique and spiritual New Year's Eve, I wholeheartedly recommend Koyasan. Just be sure to book your accommodation well in advance. I love here in Suzumeno🫶🥰😘

Nice property with some good coffee. Rooms are clean and ours was family room so more space with private bathroom. Brace up yourself if you visit in the end of Dec as it’s cold (the owner sent us notification) and the staff try to do their best to keep you warm. Did do the night excursion to the cemetery and it was awesome - the Buddhist monk was the guide and he did it great. Strongly recommend to stay at this place if you want to visit Koyasan but didn’t find vacant places/wish to stay at temples

Well located, 10 - 15min walk to temples and 25mins to the Cemetery. There is a bus but I never used it. Restaraunt downstairs very convenient, food was tasty and they were able to cook it quickly when I mentioned how much time I had before heading on a tour. Helpful and helped me by providing a phone charger when mine didn't work. Simple and comfortable basic room and fantastic value. The room is suitable for sleeping in and not much else. There is a shared room with a microwave, hot water, tea, coffee and couch. There is a convenience store within 3 mins walk that stocks many different food items. The room and the shared spaces and toilets were very clean.

The showers are located downstairs.

Guest House Suzumeno Kakurembo was a truly pleasant stay, the owners were very kind, the structure is really welcoming and you can also have lunch and dinner in the izakaya managed by the same owners. Recommended for a pleasant stay on Koyasan. It is possible to access the structure using local buses that leave from Koyasan station and arrive at the Atago-mae stop. Once you get down there, just take a few steps and immediately take the small street on the left. At this point you will need to turn right at the second crossroads and you will have arrived!

Nothing.

This place is perfect to explore Koyasan if you don't want to go for the monastery experience. It's located 5 min walk from the Danjo Garan, a magnificent temple complex. It's a 30 min walking to one of the entries of the cemetery, and there are also buses if needed. So really convenient to go around. We were able to leave our bags before the check in time. Our family room was huge, with a sleeping area and a living room area (kettle, fridge). The bathroom was clean and comfy. We also ate at the restaurant downstairs, which was pretty good. I didn't like the fried chicken but the gyozas were delicious! Restaurant is a little bit pricey for what it is but it's super convenient to just go and eat downstairs, especially when it's cold outside. It's also very easy to take the bus direct to the station. Overall a great experience!

The room was super cold, to be fair it was snowing outside. The heaters took basically 15h to start warming it up :D So bring a few extra layers!

I enjoyed the family room as a solo traveler, plenty of space and the heating was good for me. I chose to stay here because it was too expensive to do temple stay during New Year holiday. The staff were so helpful and the food at the attached restaurant/cafe was delicious^^ I'd love to come back and stay here on my next visit to Koyasan. Very close to bus stop for convenient transport to the top attractions in the town.

Guest House Suzumeno Kakurembo is a fantastic value. If you're visiting Koyasan, this is a wonderful and very affordable place to stay! When I arrived, the kind host made me feel welcome and showed me around. The community room, shared bathroom, and my guest room were modern, thoughtfully decorated, and absolutely immaculate. There was not a hair or speck of dust anywhere. The community room includes a fridge, hot pot, and coffee and tea for guests. The guest house was fully booked but I never saw the other guests. I slept well because it was quiet and the bed was very comfortable. It is a no-smoking facility. I am sad to report that a disrespectful guest smoked in one of the toilet stalls. Travelers, please respect your hardworking hosts and other guests! The location of the guest house is a little off a main road. Temple grounds, museums, the Koyasan visitor center, convenience stores, and restaurants are just a few minutes away by foot. I arrived on a Sunday when the hosts' restaurant was closed, but was able to have dinner nearby. I look forward to staying there again in the future and going to their restaurant. When I finish the Shikoku pilgrimage, this will be my destination.
