The Dow is a quaint, homey, old-timey hotel. As such, one doesn't expect a large, appliance-equipped room or super quiet room. The little town of Lone Pine has grown up around it and time has marched on. Given all that, I sort of collect old hotels and The Dow is a delightful example of the type. Pictures of John Wayne and other cowboy actors who have stayed there grace the walls. The feel is cozy and down-home. It has been well maintained without losing its charm
The housekeeper began pounding on my door at 8:20 in the morning. She became quite ugly when I got out of bed and told her to "go away". As I checked out, I mentioned the confrontation to the front desk. clerk. Much to my surprise, she told the manager. who called me later in the day to apologize for the maid's rude behavior. Apparently, I wasn't the first person to complain about her.

The historic side of the Dow is fantastic if you understand that room, bathroom, and bed size are also "historic," a.k.a "small" by modern standards. I appreciated the nostalgic vibe and decor. You do get a real sense of the history.
The rooms closer to the highway will get some noise all night. Big rigs move through 24/7. But it wasn't terrible. But ask for one further back if you care. There are also bright lights from the big Dow lighted sign that requires drawn curtains at night for me.

Friendly, flexible and competent staff. Updated facilities with comfortable, inviting common area full of historical photos, memorable and shelves of western novels and movies. Fun cafe across the street for breakfast and lunches plus take away bakery items. We had to make several changes in our reservation (room, dates, time) and all were handled with a smile.
Pool and spa were closed indefinitely for repairs. Room 105’s only windows were onto an adjacent, covered courtyard area. Had to keep the curtains pulled and rooms felt closed in

The staff were very welcoming, and helped me out with tools when I had to do a minor repair to my motorcycle. The room was perfect size, comfortable, and great temperature. The ensuite was comfortable, water was nice and hot with good pressure. I really enjoyed the lounge/lobby area as a place to converse with other guests on their way through the hotel. Ample parking. Right in the middle of town and walking distance to everything.
I can't think of anything that could have been better. Everything matched my expectations. Of course, you can always hope it's a little cheaper (but $80 per night is not bad). Maybe the parking could have been secure, rather than just open to the street but it's a small town and I liked the freedom to come and go as I pleased.

I was there with my family and, overall, this was a good place to stay. The rooms were nice. They, like the hotel, have a historic feeling to them. The staff was very helpful. It is conveniently located downtown, this was useful since we had to get some stuff for our hike.
The lack of an elevator might be a problem for some people. Also, we changed rooms for the second night and we ended up near what seemed to be an air conditioning system that made noise the whole night.

Historic hotel with lots of movie memorabilia. I’ve stayed in the motel before where rooms are much larger and more modern but old part of hotel was cool. Rooms are quite creaky but comfortable and clean. Good shower with all toiletries provided including hair conditioner. Coffee/tea and hot water available in lobby. Right in centre of Lone Pine, handy for restaurants and Whitney Portal/Alabama Hills. Very good value for price. Staff friendly and helpful.
Difficult to get up early (as we were for photography) and be quiet as room is creaky. However could always choose motel section.

The property is a step back in time, vintagey, and nostalgic but pristinely clean and lovely staff. Cool memorabilia to check out. Awesome views of the mountains in the front. Great location as well!
They were painting (which is nice because it is well maintained) but the smell was pretty bad. They did accommodate a room move because of it though. It is a little spooky, so pull on the big girl panties if you stay here!

Very interesting place! Has a history of accommodating Western film and TV stars such as Roy Rogers and John Wayne. The rooms that they usually stayed in are identified by name plaques. The hotel is decorated in 'period' style accordingly. It is, however, comfortable. There is a shared lounge with information regarding the filming that took place, and there is a pool for cooling off on hot days. Enjoyed our stay here!
That we should have stayed longer!

I stayed in the original 1920's building. I liked the fact that almost everything in the room seemed to be vintage from the door handles to the tile in the bathroom. The whole building was like a museum to the early western's that were filmed in the area. A lot of history in this building.
I couldn't really say, it is an old building, rooms and hallways were built smaller back then so that may bother some but I enjoyed my stay.

The place was really nostalgic It was filled in with old movie style and it has a great atmosphere. Rooms were clean and nice. Again one place for sleepover. There are good places to eat around (walking distance). The pool was really nice considering the weather was quite hot.
The rooms were quite small and has seen some years. The shower space was really small. No AC so if there is hot weather then the room can get a bit hot/uncomfortable.
