This is a magnificent hotel at a magnificent location. The views from the lobby are breathtaking, which makes for an impressive arrival. As the hotel doesn't come cheap, we did not book a room with ocean view, so we were suprised that even from the other side of the hotel the ocean was still visible from our room. We had a beautiful, large room with a separate (and comfortabel) sitting area. The futons were very comfortable. The public baths in the hotel are very beautiful. As we used them quite late, we both had the men's and women's bath to ourselves. There's a wonderful outdoor bath (and an indoor bath too), really very beautiful. Jodogahama Beach is a very short walk (less than 10 minutes) through a forested area, and the hotel provides bells to warn off any bears (which seemed a bit excessive to us, but perhaps it's really necessary). The beach is quite beautiful, but also very rocky (it's not a sandy beach at all). Dinner was buffet-style, but of high quality. We loved the fact that there were lots of staff members available to explain all available dishes, and sushi was made freshly on the spot. Breakfast too was very extensive and good.

I chose to stay at this hotel because of its location and it did not disappoint! I was hoping to watch the sunrise on the beach but unfortunately it was cloudy the day I was there. The staff were very helpful. There is a bus that goes directly from the hotel to Morioka which is really convenient!

Not a big deal. I just needed adjust my expectations. I was expecting a short 5-minute walk to the beach from the hotel but it ended up being about a 10-minute which wasn’t that bad. The walk back up to the hotel could be a little taxing since there are a lot of stairs to walk up.

A special Hotel in a very special place, one of our best stays ever. Prior to our arrival I had arranged with the hotel to be picked up from the station. As promised a taxi arrived and drove ourselves and a couple of other guests the 15 minutes or so to the hotel. Staff were waiting outside to greet us and show us to reception where checkin was effortless as desk clerk spoke good English. Unusually we weren’t expected to pay or leave a credit card on file, payment is when you leave. We had booked a suite with sea views primarily because we needed western beds and chairs as we feel that sadly, the days of sleeping on the floor are behind us. In fact the rooms are described as The Royal Suite and it lives up to its name. There are three large rooms elegantly furnished. The double aspect room with large windows allowed us to appreciate the spectacular views of the bay, An absolute delight was the wet room with its shower and bathing pool, big enough for two, which afforded a view of the bay. Needless to say everything was spotlessly clean and comfortable, the wifi worked well, but the star of the room was certainly the view and the strange sense of peace and spirituality, which we both felt. Dinner too was a highlight partly cooked on jot plates at the table it was a feast of food from the sea. We ordered a bottle of white wine to go with the meal. It was Japanese and was, well….. interesting and not unpleasant. The bed was large and comfortable and the view at night with a full moon sparkling on the sea was amazing. The weather was cold with snow on the ground so we did not venture down to the beach. Breakfast was again most enjoyable and all too soon it was time to check out and take the shuttle bus to the station. Our stay was not cheap, but to put it in context much less than an average room in a Tokyo hotel, but considering the space, the excellent food, the service and above all the sense of peace was well worth it. A very special place to stay.

All good

Very nice room which, however, would need some renovation. The same goes for the bathroom. Nice onsen and spacious reading area. Bus shuttle to and from Miyako is very handy.

Very little choice of vegetarian food: at breakfast and, above all, at dinner. The reception explained how to go to the Ryusendo cave but was not aware that the train had not been in operation since four weeks. That was very disappointing but the tourist information in Miyako was great in organising a taxi for me.

Location is perfect for Jodogahama beach, this is probably the only hotel you can walk to the beach from to catch the sunrise. The sea facing rooms also have an amazing view to catch the sunrise if you don’t want to walk down to the beach (10 minutes). Dinner buffet has great selection of local specialties with descriptions in Japanese. The hotel also has a good onsen with both indoor and outdoor onsen, and the men’s and women’s switch from one day to the next.

Rooms while very clean are older (less felt with the tatami room and more with the bathroom and toilet).

The place is stunning, the restaurant we went to (Japanese) was great, the breakfast as well. The staff was very friendly, all very enjoyable.

The check-in takes too long and for such a premium place, I would expect that a bar is open throughout. Indeed, it only opens in the evening. Structurally, not much is done with the stunning views of the lake and the ocean: apart from the rooms, very few facilities face these views.

This beautiful hotel excels in every way. In an extraordinarily beautiful location, it is a delight from the moment you step inside. Professional and friendly staff were always on hand to assist us. The rooms are beautiful and perfectly planned for maximum comfort and great thought in providing views from every corner! Possibly the nicest hotel we have ever stayed in… Thank you to all staff and we look forward to returning later in the year.

- nothing.

Fantastic location, clean traditional rooms, great views. The hotel has a lovely charm about it, and many facilities you might not expect, such as karaoke rooms! The staff were very accommodating, particularly with practicing their English skills. They also had a wonderful complimentary service to the train station.

It was a little confusing to get to - but that was probably just us, gettting lost in translation!

The shuttle/shared taxis worked out really well. Getting to and from the station was very easy (when the times work out for you) The sento was amazing and the view was just gorgeous. We had some miscommunication with the staff but they handled it very well and politly and we found a way to make it work. They where very supportive and accomodating All in all it was a very nice time there

It would be nice if the staff spoke little more English, our little Japanese was not enough to prevent some misshaps with the shuttles and times etc.

Real authentic modernised hotel with amazing views on the sea from our room. Nice buffet Japanese style. We both loved the Japanese style kimono’s available in the room.

Diner buffet seems the same every day (we spent two nights) and there are hardly other restaurants nearby/open. A bit more variation in the buffet would have been great.
