We truly loved the restful and understated charm of the Bethesda Tower. Every piece of furniture enhanced the old world feel of each room, from the chest of drawers to the stocked book shelves, from the windows inviting copious amounts of light to the well-preserved doors that look as though they lead to a magical world. The shower was amazing! The water heated up immediately and the pressure was great. Everything was clean and the decor, simple and classic. The service was flawless. The staff was welcoming and kind. A special thanks to Yvonne, whose cheerful demeanour really added a brightness to an already lovely place. The breakfast was made with love, we could tell. Every morsel of roosterbrood, egg and wors was worth savouring. Delicious!!! The Bushman Heritage Museum was a definite highlight. It was inspiring and empowering to see how coloured people have survived and taken steps to reclaim their past and safeguard it for the future. The handmade bags and cushion covers made by Yvonne and her fellow staff members are absolutely stunning. I had to buy one. They added a simple beauty to the surroundings. All in all, this place is perfect, inside and out. I would definitely go there again and recommend it to anyone and everyone.

We liked everything!

The accommodation was quaint, clean and comfortable. It was easy walking distance to restaurants. The town itself is interesting and the local folk are friendly and helpful. It was unfortunate that there was a general power outage but there were lights available in the room. Very nice breakfast was included. Yvonne was very attentive.

The fact that our bathroom was downstairs and outside from the room - I'm sure this was not mentioned in the description and I feel it should be as it could really be a problem for older or disabled guests. There were no bath towels in our room and we only noticed that late at night when there was no staff around.

The breakfast was great.

We booked for supper and order the lamb stew @ R180.00. I was so disappointed in the food it was really not worth the money we paid for it. I received one piece of meat on a bone with very little meat around it. My wife's portion was the same. On querying the staff the answer I received was that is the portions. I told them that I was not satisfied, they then gave us the meal for R140, that I felt was still not worth it. The next morning I send a Whats up to the "owners" and expressed my dissatisfaction. I was assured that they will investigate and come back to me. I am still waiting their response.

It is part of and run by the members of an arts and culture centre. This makes it such an interesting place to stay - when you are in the restaurant you are surrounded by the art works and visual stories created on site. Its location is perfect, the fairy tower we stayed in is a quaint, fun accommodation option. It is really well equipped with electric blankets, heaters, tea and coffee making stuff. Everyone was incredibly friendly and accommodating, we arrived later and it was no problem, they waited and made us the most delicious lamb curry dinner on arrival.

The only thing I would bear in mind when staying in the fairy tale tower is that the floors between floors can be noisy if you are staying with friends who are sleeping in the top floor. This is just a quirk of the building. The toilet access is via outside staircase - but this is mentioned, so not a surprise.

We booked a room on the ground floor with en-suite bathroom which was unique with a stain glass window and perfect for us (not very mobile). A room in the tower would have been an experience but the bathroom was at the bottom of the stairs. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Both the evening meal and breakfast were excellent. The location is very central and perfect for exploring the village as it is within walking distance of Owl house, fossil museum etc.

The accomodation is on the same property as a heritage museum, showcasing the mythical beliefs and folklore of the Xam people. The staff are all part Bushman and have contributed to the creation of the museum. The food is delicious and you can dine in the art gallery. The gallery is home to the wonderful work of the local staff who have learnt various artistic techniques to display the imagery of their culture through Lino prints and wonderful hand-made tapestries. We stayed in the tower and outside we had a patio/veranda with a table set up for dining or reading etc... they set up dinner for us just outside our room for a more intimate experience. The actual room was comfortable and serene. There weren't many appliances but we didn't need them for our one night stay.

The toilet was downstairs and was a mission to get to if you're staying upstairs but we knew this was the case before we went. The shower does fill up quickly and if you shower for too long it could overflow.

Third or fourth time staying here and we absolutely loved it once again. The staff are lovely, the gallery on site is worth visiting and the artists can often be seen working long into the night to create beautiful tapestries which adorn the walls of the gallery and the rooms, which are squeaky clean and comfortable. It's centrally located, with a tower overlooking the town, the perfect place to watch the hues of the sky blaze and deepen at dusk, and with a quiet courtyard from which to stargaze late into the night. Would recommend and look forward to bringing more guests in future.

This was a very different accommodation and I loved it . It was super clean and central and the staff were exceptional. The rooms were comfy and warm despite the cold outside. Staff also accommodated our request for earlier breakfast to get going.

The outside stairs to get to the bathroom takes some getting used to , but the communication around the facilities was very clear. You have to make a booking for dinner in Nieu Bethesda since it is very quiet , especially out of season and not many options available without prior notice. We were treated to a very basic home cooked meal at the Tower.

We had such a lovely time in Nieu Bethesda and especially at the Bethesda Tower accommodation. I would definitely recommend it. The breakfast was exceptional as well! The staff was super friendly and Yvonne is a gem!

When I did the booking, it read: Private Bathroom. What I didn't realize was that the bathroom was outside, downstairs and that I had to go outside in the middle of the night to use the bathroom.

Staying at Bethesda Tower in the Bushman Heritage Museum was life changing! The room was clean with a big comfy bed. I woke up to the sound of birds and drank coffee overlooking the courtyard. I have to say the breakfast from Tower Cafe was top restaurant quality, however it is the welcoming atmosphere that makes this place so special. A collective of artists with the most extraordinary talents runs this place and they made me feel part of their community. I was shown around the Bushman Heritage Museum and gallery where the most beautiful handmade tapestries hang, each the size of a wall. As I walked around the artists themselves re-told the ancient bushman stories that inspired their work. It was amazing to hear these stories of how the sun came into the sky, stories of the wind, of the first humans and animals of South Africa. The artists took me in their tour bus to see the first original rock paintings created by bushman thousands of years ago. Then in the evening I was invited to join the artists as they told the stories and sang with local children around the campfire. It was truly magical and shone a light on the origins of humanity.

Everything was great.
