Beautiful old heritage house. Note that this is not a luxury hotel, but it is authentic! The price reflects this, so I cannot understand why people complain. We had one of the cheapest rooms, with a huge bathroom and a lovely veranda. It was clean and the room was cleaned every day. There is a beautiful garden with lots of chipmunks, birds, cute monkeys (a kind I only saw there) and cats. The staff were really friendly and chatty. We ate one at the restaurant, and it was fine. We were the only guests having dinner, as there are so many other places in town. Breakfast was always tasty. It is a short walk to the street with many shops and restaurants, which leads to the beach. The pool was fantastic, clean and set in the beautiful garden.

I had booked with a free cancellation option and wanted to change the dates which was only possible by an increased cost. I contacted the hotel via booking, but it only lead to some confusing answers. However, I addressed the issue upon arrival and it was resolved without a fuss. So my worried were diffused. I think this could be improved, as I was inclined to cancel altogether. Very glad I didn’t, it was amazing staying there

Stunning mansion with beautiful garden and all facilities you need. Good buffet breakfast and chill ambience to enjoy Unawatuna outside the crowded town center. Close to bus station, railway and beach just 15min walk away. Great value for money.

I invite the property manager to have a chat with the tuc tuc drivers (mafia) outside the hotel, insisting on rides for more than double the price. We got the ride canceled as other drivers know the men 'controlling' the tuc tuc rides by the hotel will prevent anybody else picking up clients there. Even after we walked 500 mt away, one of these drivers bothered to come to find us and further threatened that we were not going to get any ride there (I guess this is their "business area"). Not a great experience right in front of a beautiful accommodation. Truly undeserved.

This is one of the best options you can find in Unawatuna when it comes to the nature, service and location. It is a Dutch style resort managed by locals. This is one of the few options where the breakfast is buffet. Tasty food and quite rich is served for breakfast. There is a nice pool where you can enjoy sunbath, if you are too lazy to go to the beach. We had everyday room service and that was a very good thing for us (you have a clean room and towels, water etc.) The environment is quite green in the resort and you can also see some birds or monkeys if you are lucky.

The resort is a little bit far from the sea (12-15mins by walk). Sometimes you just decide to sit around the pool just because of that distance. Be prepared to have cash (Rupees), otherwise they will charge you for very bad rate of other currencies ($, € etc.). The hotel doesn't give you beach towels. If you want one, you have to pay for that (not just deposit).

The location was fab very central to all amenities lovely balcony view of the lake. Lovely friendly staff. pool area nice and good towel service.

Sometimes room cleaning wasn’t until late in the day, needs to be earlier and not when you are wanting afternoon rest time. Shower pressure very low and mostly cold water. Awful creaky wooden bed frame very noisy. Breakfast could be improved very repetitive, same food every day. This hotel needs to be updated, having said that, hotel has so much potential. Used spa area, nice but again needs sprucing up and maintenance. Should definitely have a large fan in the reception area which was very hot and humid when guests are waiting.

It's great that you can catch a bus to Galle from just outside the hotel. There are also a couple of small stores located close by fron which you can buy water and fruits at a reasonable price.

The festival that was on during our stay (22-26 July) made it very crowded and difficult to get about with my elderly mother. The noise from the loudspeakers which were blaring religious speak was hard to handle as it was constant..

The rooms were bright very clean and comfortable.Our room had a large balcony overlooking the garden and pond .We were in the newer wing of the hotel .The hotel is a historical building situated back from the main road in a lovely garden setting where you can watch the birds and monkeys .The hotel is an oasis if calm and tranquillity. There is a large pool and a smaller pool Both are very clean .There is a spa which has reasonable priced treatments compared to other places we staye Staff are very courteous and efficient .We had a wonderful four night stay. Would highly recommend it if you do not want a large modern resort hotel .Good food . Prices ok

Has sizeable grounds making it a nice oasis in an otherwise busy location. Very good breakfast buffet. The air con worked great, and we had hot water in the shower (a rarity for us in Sri Lanka). Good wi-fi, which I mention because sometimes with heritage buildings the construction interferes with the wi-fi. Here, the heritage buildings are used for the lobby and eating areas, while the guest rooms are more modern construction (maybe 20 years old). On-site wildlife including monkeys, birds, and monitor lizards. Don’t let your kids play in the pond out back, saw an alligator in there.

They breed mosquitos with all the standing water they have around the property yet provide no nets for protection. Also, they tend to overpromise. We had confirmed twin beds upon booking (buddy trip). They put us in a single. When we protested, they upgraded us to a triple room that had multiple beds, but if they hadn’t had any available rooms, it would have been bad. They claim it’s a 5-minute walk to a super awesome beach. Try 15+ minutes of traffic dodging to an OK beach. General maintenance is mid-level.

A piece of 300 year old+ living history. Set back from a busy main road, it felt safe, quiet and peaceful.... Although still in a jungle setting, we saw just as much wildlife as any safari! Our rooms had adjoining rooms for the children which was a godsend for us and them! Decent breakfast. Excellent staff. The main menu/poolside menu and dinner menu is a bit confusing but the food was excellent and, coming from Birmingham, I can say the Sri Lankan pork curry was a top 5 EVER 🏆🇱🇰

Rough around the edges, like everywhere in Sri Lanka. They're doing their best with tough times.

My favourite play to stay. Sublime old world charm set in huge lush tropical vegetation. Glorious trees, flowers and plants. Abundance of birds and animals. We saw a family of monkeys playing in the trees from our entrance door verandah. I loved the antique furnishings. The pool is superb, perfect size, plenty of sun beds and towels, few guests so not crowded. So relaxing, and a perfect location, very near to the Unnawatuna beach road but in its own oasis away from it all, absolutely perfect. Breakfast was plenty and served to us, buffet style, waiters tending our needs. All the staff were calm and respectful, I just can’t fault the place,

Well there was no reception on the tv throughout our 4 day stay but we didn’t care because everything else was fabulous. Just wish evening meals were a little cheaper then we would have spent our money there rather than outside, and sorry I can’t pay 500 R/s for a 150rs bottle of water,

The room was really comfortable, with tea/coffee facilities and a fridge. The balcony was lovely, overlooking the pool. Shower was (very) hot! The pool was great and lots of wildlife in the gardens. There was a large selection of food for breakfast everyday. We also used the spa which was nice. The location was ok - about a 10 to 20min walk to the beach, along the way there are lots of restaurants and bars. Although it's on the main road, you don't notice it at all once you're in the hotel.

The wifi was patchy and only really worked on our balcony.
