I was out early on the Saturday so expected to miss breakfast. When I returned, serving had just finished but they had saved breakfast for me anyway. very kind. Evening meal was straightforward pub grub. Rooms were in an annexe built onto the premises, which is what I wanted, for easy coming and going. Very easy parking - and plenty of it. On the edge of a nice village.
It was hard to check in because nobody seemed to be around, with only one poor girl front of house doing all the dinners. After a few bell ringing attempts she was able to detach herself and give me my key, but then had to chase off again.

The welcome was great, the staff were great. But the best part of the stay was the food (we had breakfast and dinner). The menu is traditional British pub food, but done very well, with local ingredients and cooked to make you smile. Apple crumble and custard was made with their own apples, and lots of cream in the custard.
First impressions were not great; it's in the middle of nowhere (but not too bad for the A14 and Bury St Edmunds) and the rooms are like motel rooms just away from the main building. But the longer we stayed, the more we liked it; it was cosy and welcoming.

The main attraction for us was a couple of dads army episodes were filmed here and then finding out the pub was still here and with accommodation was a must visit, on arrival the property and gardens look beautiful lots of flowers and great water feature, a great welcome by staff and they really were fantastic through out our stay all lovely and friendly, the breakfast was great with lots of choices, dinners and puddings were fantastic great portions and very tasty :) our room was cleaned each day the bed was very comfortable for us both, overall very happy with our stay here and again thank you to the staff for a lovely memorable stay. (If I can convince my girlfriend to return to a dads army coach trip we will defiantly be returning here)

The staff we met, the Thai wife of the son of the owner and the young woman who served us dinner, were very friendly and helpful, as well as efficient. The food was good: quality ingredients, well cooked ( we had breakfast and just one dinner). The inn is very attractive, with historic features, and the surrounding gardens very pretty. We liked the location out in the countryside in the picturesque village of Bardwell.
We had a standard double room which was pleasant enough but we did not find the bed particularly comfortable ( and king size would have been preferable). The bathroom was small and basic, with a very small washbasin and a stone floor - this and the absence of a radiator deterred us from having a shower, as the weather was chilly! Although the location of the Six Bells suited us very well, it is a long way from anywhere.

The Inn is situated near the village green, but is surrounded by farmland. It has a very attractive garden for sitting out in the summer, or when it's warmer. The inn has a lovely cozy bar, with wooden beams and low ceilings, and a massive open original fireplace. The seats are all very comfortable soft leather tub chairs or leather doubles. The owner over heard us talking about the lovely firepace and how nice it would be in the winter to be sitting around the fire and, after our meal he lit the fire especially for us. It wasn't winter it was May, but it was certainly very welcome. We ate in the evening and the food was superb. The Full English we had in the morning was one of the best I've ever had at an Inn.
Nothing really to add here.

The breakfast was delicious as was the evening meals. The Thai green chicken curry was gorgeous and homemade by the owner. The owner and restaurant staff were all very friendly and attentive and were very good with our daughter who has special needs who also enjoyed all her meals and stay here.
The rooms were a good size and comfortable bed but could do with some modernisation and updating which would then leave this accommodation first class.

Conveniently close to Bardwell for a Wedding & Reception that I attended. Clean and Bed was very Comfortable and felt very private. I liked the Barn Conversion a lot
I was surprised that my Room didn’t have a small refrigerator in it. So as I was booked in as a Single although it had Twin Beds in it, I asked the Bride & Groom that also stayed here if they had a Fridge & they didn’t either. Just would have been nice to keep my own Water Chilled during my stay.

I loved the views you got from your hotel room, the fields one side, and the beautiful "courtyard" garden. I liked that it had a traditional type pub eating area, aswell as a conservatory which was lovely and light when we had breakfast. It's a nice setting. Also all staff were lovely.
I wouldn't say a dislike more a constructive criticism, if you were to drive here at night you could quite easily miss your hotel as no lights (including our taxi driver!) The signpost just leading up to the hotel would be a great idea to have a spotlight there, as sat nav sends you past. In the daylight you'd see it, if you'd taken notice of what hotel looks like! I think the breakfast time from 8am-9am, should be made to 10am.

Absolutely fabulous hosts, couldn't do enough for us. Unfortunately, I misread the 'miles from Bury St Edmunds' as we were hurriedly looking for replacement accommodation, following a disastrous booking in an air bnb but it all turned out perfectly. Food was delicious too. Highly recommend this place 😊
That I misread how many miles away from town it was!
